Have the debate in Washington about the economy. Thats what matters to people, No way can McCain say no.

    Obama PUNKED McCain.

The Obama campaign knew McCain wouldn't do a joint statement.

McCain looks like a hothead, quicktempered old man.

Johnny will spin plates on his nose before wowing the Committee by pulling his lower lip over his head while doing a soft shoe...
We'll laugh at the memory of Johnny's near death antics this winter while huddled for warmth in unheated homes...Er, at least those who still have unheated homes.

    No way! NBC's Kelly O'Donnell is not a real reporter. She's a hair-do.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
McCain is pulling a panicked bullshit move. He's not the President, and neither is Obama, so neither need one needs to "suspend" anything to deal with a problem which is the President's and the Congress's. They are merely 2 of 100 elected Senators. McCain is a big p-u-s-s-y.
  • MaryanneAZ · 1 year ago
McCain could deliver his input on the Bill from the road via cell phone, blackberry, or email -- oops, that's right, he doesn't use 21st Century technology and has not been motivated to learn to use it. He is out of touch in every conceivable way. McCain is just afraid his more conservative Republicans are not going to vote for the Bill and it will rain down on him. He is hoping to make a few backroom deals to get his fellow Republicans on board. He needs to be there to pass out the cash or IOUs to those who are not on board with the Bill. He cannot win the Republican party President role if his Party is deemed to be at fault for not taking care of this crisis. McCain is a Republican and he needs the Republicans to do favorable things right now.

Could CNN's Dana Bash be a bigger suck up to McCain?

She sleeps with that revolting midget John King, fer chrisakes, so clearly she's more addled than her appearance would suggest...
  • AdrianBrowne · 1 year ago
Is this supposed to inspire the American people to have confidence in John McCain? Because if it is they better go back to Plan A or just go on to Plan 9 from Outer Space.
  • MichaelS · 1 year ago
Earlier I suggested Obama should also head back to DC but NOT cancel the debate -- instead hjold it in DC, McCain will be tired and slip up, and Obama will look presidential.

But I just realized the true motivation behind McCain's delay request... Foreign policy is his only perceived strong suit, and that's what Friday's debate is about. Unfortuantely, foreign policy will get lost under the current domestic financial crisis... They want the heat to cool down on the domestic front so that we can all start being afraid again, very afraid, of those radical Muslims.

NO WAY in hell should Obama agree to delay the debate. If McCain wants to cancel and not show up, so be it -- then no foreign policy debate. Period. Obama should still show up and let all the networks show him opposite an empty chair.

Just imagine the image...Obama, the moderator and Johnny's empty podium...
    Powerful.
Talk about H.W. looking at his watch...
  • Rufus · 1 year ago
I have an idea. Vice Presidents stand in for Presidents when the president is incapacitated or unable to serve, SO let the debate Friday proceed. Biden/Palin, taking the place of the principals so we can really determine who is up to the job. Poor Palin would have a heart attack.

McCain's a gutless coward. He doesn't want to go in front of the nation and have to answer questions about Rick Davis and the Keating five, not to mention all his deregualtion votes. Vietnam was 40 years ago. He's now a gutless coward.

    McChickenshit.
  • Savage8862 · 1 year ago
Why does McCain hate America? Why did he choose to tell terrorist how to influence U.S. presidential debates? Gee if you damage our economy, we have to suspend campaigns until crisis is over. McCain has shown his weakness and he has shown that he is not capable of leading this nation.
  • AdrianBrowne · 1 year ago
Shouldn't the President AT THE VERY LEAST be ready, willing, and able to debate something no matter what else is going on?
  • Erin_O · 1 year ago
Does McCain know that blacks are now admitted to Ole Miss?
  • HereinDC · 1 year ago
    73 % on CNN.com say it's a political stunt

    LOL

73% will be the vote for Obama Nov 4th
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
Vote often Americabloggers! (That CNN makes this an option suggests even the least cynical knows this McCain stunt doesn't pass the smell test).
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
How about this: yesterday's "practice" debate with Michael "Oreo Victim" Steele, didn't go so well, so let's find a convenient excuse to engage in delaying tactics, especially with Rick having to deal with his own shitstorm....
  • magster · 1 year ago
Sherrod Brown on MSNBC just now was great. He said this was a gimmick wherein a Senator who previously said he doesn't know much about the economy and that the fundamentals are strong is going to come in and rescue everyone? He then said McCain's phone calls from the campaign trail are welcome.
  • HereinDC · 1 year ago
In 10 days McCain goes from Okie Dokie on the economy to Chicken Little?

    LOL
  • MNUSA · 1 year ago
So is this a ploy to convince us that this legislation has to be passed right now, tonight or the sky will fall? Too bad the Bush administration lost its credibility years ago.
  • barts · 1 year ago
Oh , now I'm real mad and disapointed. Not only do I get denied of seeing a good debate, but I also will have to bail out these motherfuckers on Wall St!
  • ndtovent · 1 year ago
Nothing like a major financial crisis as an excuse to get out of debate he knows he can't win. Of course it's a stunt.
  • PhoenixB · 1 year ago
    McCain is a SNIVELING,TWO-FACED COWARD.

Pathetic. Just pathetic! I hope Obama kicks his ass on November 4. I'm fed up with that guy.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
I have a question for John McCain. What the hell do you think YOU are going to do to resolve this "crisis"? Be specific, what can you add to this issue? You believe the economy is financially sound so how can anything you say have any bearing on the issue?
  • MaryanneAZ · 1 year ago
Even the leadership of the Senate and House believe that the candidates and their entourage would only add confusion and chaos to the Bailout bill's negotiations. McChicken is just trying to run out the calendar and get elected on the laurels of his maverick reputation. A serious debate gaffe would put his credentials in serious jeopardy. Too risky. Obama is going to kick his senior butt right back here to Arizona.
  • tbhull · 1 year ago
Why is Congress listening to Paulson tell them what is and what is not a tough sell to the American people?

Does Congress do anything but take orders from Wall Street?
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
Yeah ! MSNBC just reported that Obama thinks the debates should go on and that a president should be able to multi-task. Go Obama!!!!
  • HereinDC · 1 year ago
    I keep tellin' ya.
I think the Obama campaign set-up the BobDole campaign.
Obama knew Dole would not ever never do a joint statement.
Dole thought he'd get the upper hand on Obama.

    Dole just got P U N K E D ! ! !
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
I may be starting to agree with you. I didn't think so at first but depending on what Obama says I may agree.
  • Sage24 · 1 year ago
Good job Obama. He is of course right. If old Mac is unable to multi task, then he should not be President. Perhaps he should send Palin to debate Obama.
She will get flattened out and steam rolled.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
May Joe Lieberman rot in hell, no may Joe Lieberman rot here on earth piece by piece.
  • HereinDC · 1 year ago
I can't remember who said this but...this person said they knew when Bob Dole had lost the 1996 Election.....it was when Bob Dole fell off that stage.

    Remember that? I do.

Well, this is John McCain's Bob Dole moment.

This is the downward spiral of John McCain.
  • Sage24 · 1 year ago
Someone mentioned that Obama should suggest that the VP's debate this Friday instead. That would make Old Mac run to the podium on Friday. Obviously his assistant is still getting used to her training wheels.

I am glad that many people can see through this sham. It must be the fact that Obama has suddenly surged in the polls, and that people are beginning to see that he is better at handling the economy, that Old Mac is trying a fast one.
    Nasty rethuglican tactics.
  • Btalk314 · 1 year ago
The Republicans screwed this economy up, they should be the ones to pay for it and fix it. Get Big Oil, Big Pharma, Halliburton, and the Carlyle Group to pony up the $700 Billion and leave the taxpayers alone.
  • nicho · 1 year ago
Having McCain "work on the economy"is a lot like Borat in the antique store.
  • bish8 · 1 year ago
He hans't voted in the Senate since April and now he is needed to solve the MOAB's? The debate is only two hours long and he can't handle that but he can handle running the country?
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
May your thoughts known. Msnbc poll

  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
Cillizza at the WaPo nails it: tanking in the polls, especially on the economy, McCain pulls a stunt, with typical cynical contempt for the American people, designed to "prove" he is "above politics" and brokering a "deal" that brings the parties together, since only he (and never Obama) can "cross the aisle" for workable solutions. He can even tell the likes of Shelby to STFU, thereby claiming he is a "maverick" who "takes on" his own party.
  • katjam · 1 year ago
    two words: Rick Davis.

McCain campaign will sink if the full extent of Rick Davis's being paid ofr influence is the news it would have been tonight.
  • eliot99 · 1 year ago
Yeah, I just heard Kelly O'Donnell spewing off about how it was SO important that the candidates be in Washington. I guess being a McCain lap dog makes her qualified to make that judgment.
  • MNUSA · 1 year ago
His support is shrinking away. The National Inquirer is featuring lurid stories about his vice presidential candidate. (By the way, what are the demographics of their readership?) The economic crisis (if there is one) is as good excuse as any to cancel the debate and regroup.
  • stevetalbert · 1 year ago
McCain has to suspend his campaign. Basically all his campaign workers are lobbyists would probably are taking off to get to DC before the pork gets handed out to the 'wrong' people or doesn't get cooked at all..
