thanks Joe. you're a good man.

i'm feeling hopeful. it's gonna be hard for McCain to keep saying...don't believe your own eyes...

Good point. McCain is looking and sounding more and more like Danny Devitos portrayal of the Penguin in Batman....

Someone on CNN a bit ago, I think it was Natalie Rosen, said at this point in a race we usually see the polls
tightening but right now we are seeing them widening.
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
I like that... Partly because undecideds don't want to vote for the loser, so they usually break for whomever is ahead. That bodes well for Obama. God, I hope people show up. We will need a tidal wave to combat the ensuing voter supression and fraud from the Republicans.

Speaking at a rally of 1,500 people in Daytona Beach, Fla., Biden just said he wished he'd responded to Palin's jab that she was in second grade when Biden was elected to the Senate thusly:

“Governor, you were in 6th grade the last time John McCain had a good idea on the economy."

Oprah is all relieved that she finally got her voting SCREEN to register for Barack, as if that means anything at all.

I'm starting to think that the type of person who rises in politics and media, including journalism of course, does NOT have the technological intelligence to grasp just how easy it would be to hack voting computers. To leave voting computer hardware and software unexamined all these years is unbelievable. If your banker were this naive your money would be gone to Siberia in 10 seconds.

I will be working the polls on Tuesday but I live in the Hollywood Hills and it is 80% Democratic, so we won't be confronted with too many McCain supporters.

In the last election I asked a young woman if she was Repub or Demo. in order to direct her to the proper booth, to which she replied, "Look at my face do I look like a stupid Republican!". Well OK! I had no comeback.

The old 11th hour fall flat on your face routine for McCain.

Responsible conservatives should urge the Republican Party to cease operations and promptly disband after the election.

Just when you thought Palin was taking Anne Coulter's crown away for nazi bitch of the year......Shirley Nagel goes zooming past. I have more choice words for that woman, but I don't want to offend the ladies on this site. Let's just say, it's a word I reserve for a very very select few. This woman wins. Hands down.
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
Mark, what a bitch! Is this how the Republicans think they can get voters?
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
This woman has just ensured that none of those children will grow up to vote republican, that's for sure.

It's not a blowout unless everyone gets out to vote. Period.

I don't believe that I have been this nervous/anxious in my adult life. And that includes 2000 and 2004.

If it weren't for the drugs I'd have a drinking problem by now. LOL
  • akonuche · 1 year ago
Anxiety has become my middle name over the past week.

But, Joe, they've got us where they want us!!!!

God, I can't wait for this to be over!! I'm so sick of seeing Palin-McCain. I'm tired of campaign advertisements. I don't want to look at 538.com nor pollster.com nor electoral-vote.com for another 4 years. No more gaffe alerts or McCainisms or Palinisms or SNL appearances. No more media narrative about the Palinbots yelling TERRORIST! and the whack job gone rogue. I don't care if Trig really is her step-grandchild or if the dear babe turns out not to be Todd's. No more talk about superdelegates and greek columns. Obamacans and swing states. And for heaven's sake, Joe the Plumber!!!!

48hrs and it'll just get worse. I think I just may lose it before Tuesday night is all said and done. God help us.
  • bish8 · 1 year ago
I can't watch television or read the editorial page any more. I have even been waking up in the middle of the night because I am so wired. I am losing it for sure!
  • houstonray · 1 year ago
Is it just me, or did that "Closing strongly" in the headline scare anyone else? I thought maybe McCain was closing the gap! Don't do that to me, I'm on the edge of a nervous breakdown as it is! ;-)

Iowa is going for Obama and you can take that to the bank. I'll gladly put my money where my mouth is. I'm willing to bet anyone here a $100 dollar bill that Obama takes Iowa. No ifs. No ands. No buts. Any takers? Here are the last of the McCain supporters:

All these favorable polls are great, but my stomach is feeling queezy as all hell about this election. I just don't trust some voters in some of these states -- including my own (PA).

While I can see several scenarios where we win -- and some where we win big -- I can still see a path or two for McCain which makes me uneasy.

I can see states like Florida, Ohio, North Carolina, Montana, North Dakota, Nevada, Missouri and Indiana all breaking for McCain in the end -- and that scares me.

I think we'll win, but I can't wait to see it actually happen.
  • 2008 · 1 year ago
Well, Obama automatically HAS to be up well over 5 points to compensate for the "margin of error/cheating" that we can expect from the GOP. I think Obama has been very smart not to ever take his lead for granted because we all know that Sen. Kerry and Gore were also in the lead in many polls, including exit polls!!!

It is no surprise that the John McCain - Sarah Palin ticket has gone increasingly negative down the home stretch. They really don’t have any other options to close the gap. However, a new negative advertisement has been leaked that is particularly disturbing in its hypocrisy.

    http://digg.com/2008_us_elections/Leaked_Ad_for...

Sarah Palin has consistently advocated abstinence-only education in schools, despite the fact that this philosophy has resulted with both Palin and her daughter conceiving out of wedlock. Clearly, abstinence-only has not worked for the Palin family, yet Sarah Palin wants to prescribe this in place of comprehensive sexual education for other young Americans.

This advertisement came from the same 527 group that put forth this anti-Obama spot last week…

Palin's refusal to release her medical records, and some reports out of Alaska that pre-date the birth of "Trig", suggest that she is NOT that child's mother. Even if that's not true, Palin has shamelessly exploited her disabled child by dragging him from state to state and her tumultuous campaign rallies.

I just wrote a new post, Obama vs. McCain vs. Palin vs. Biden in the Last Month: Details on my Word Face-Off blog that could add a little extra insight into the state of the race. I analyzed the Google searches for the presidential and VP candidates by state and studied the context of the searches (positive or negative). Also interesting for those who haven't read them yet are previous posts about the "Google-popularity" of Obama and McCain and their parties, geographically, chronologically, etc.: Three-day average interest in Obama and McCain by state and top cities, Democratic Party vs. Republican Party vs. Green Party vs. Libertarian Party vs. Constitution Party (part 1, part 2, part 3), Obama vs. McCain.

One wonders if Obama's win tomorrow will convince people like Karl Rove that dirty campaign tactics no longer work in American politics. I'm convinced that this race would have been much closer if McCain had kept his honor and run a decent campaign based on the issues. Of course, that wouldn't have worked with Sarah Palin as his running-mate because she knows nothing about the issues and is only good at one thing: sarcastic personal attacks and insinuations.
