AMERICAblog: Sunday Talk Shows Open Thread

I want to congratulate Clay Aiken and Lindsay Lohan BOTH CELEBRITIES who have opened up about their sexual orientation. Any celebrity, or sports figure, who decides to do this makes the world a better place for that confused, scared, desperate teenager in middle America who is wondering whether or not life is worth living being "gay in America." It would be nice if more sports figures, especially those mythical "manly men" sports like baseball and football would have the guts to come out and make a difference for those young boys who have the talent and dreams of NFL or professional baseball but have been told theren't aren't any gay people in professional major league athletics.

    Good job, Clay and Lindsay!

What the hell is wrong with Clinton! Does he want Obama to win or not?
  • TheOriginalLiz · 1 year ago
From what I've seen - no, he doesn't. I don't know whether it's racism, or just "if Hillary can't have it, no one can", but he's become a liability to the dems much as shrub is to the GOP.
  • pcvirginiabeach · 1 year ago
It is madening to watch him compare himself to Palin. Like she has half the ability he had. He was a Rhodes Scholar for christ sake... and has one of the best politcal minds in the hisotry of American politics... she is a empty suit. Why does he keep pumping her up, even as she makes a fool of herself?
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Believe me, he is desperately trying to retire the whole Hillary debt while pretending to BARELY support Obama. He does NOT want the Democrat to win. He is showing he has CHANGED. He now cares more about power than the American people. He desperately wants Hillary to come in and revive his administration so everyone will forget the sorry "Monica mess." Those of us who supported the Clinton, already forgave him. Those who don't will NEVER forgive him for Monica, and hate Hillary so they need to realize how lucky they are to STILL be in positions of power. They have grown into people who think they are entitled to things like the White House. I'm glad he served as President when he did, but he and Hillary need to move it along.

What a contemptible, shoddy little man ex-President Clinton turned into. He has a severe case of ADD--if he doesn't get incessant, unceasing, sucking-up attention, he becomes disorderly.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
I gave up on the Clintons when they started buddying up to the entire Bu$hco. group. They had their chance to keep themselves separate. In fact, had they not been so buddy buddy with the core group of Bu$hco. thugs, I would have been more supportive of Hillary. They thought we wouldn't notice? Sorry, but we are looking for something WAYYYyyyy different. We needed the Clintons back when they were elected to the White House. Now we need NEW BLOOD and need someone not willing to fall in line with that old guard in DC who has gotten us in so much deep shit. We need Barack Obama.

Helena I agree. Two things I'd like to see when people interview Bill Clinton:
    1) Stop calling him "President" Clinton. Its obviously too much for his ego.
    2) Stop letting him gush about how great Sarah Palin is. Every time I hear about Bill complimenting Palin I start thinking of blue dresses. Honestly, he's the only person besides McCain who thinks she's qualified. I wonder why....

I'm a recovering compulsive gambler, and I know a woman who killed herself by shooting herself in the head over a gambling relapse. I think if Senator McCain has a gambling problem, he needs to OWN UP TO IT and start attending Gamblers Anonymous meetings. Compulsive gambling is no different than acoholism or drug addiction. If you aren't in recovery, you are in danger of hurting a lot of people with an out of control crazy "winner take all" perception to life. I think Senator McCain needs to find some kind of Higher Power, besides gambling, and "get back to us" when he is ready to make decisions for "the rest of us." I don't want some compulsive gambler playing chicken with nuclear nations. The Palin pick, alone, is enough for me to realize he ISN'T IN RECOVERY!

Gambling KILLS people, folks. By the way, the woman I know who shot herself in the head was a married grandmother and it devastated her entire family. Just like drugs or alcohol, if you can not help yourself and compulsive do it then you end up in jails, institutions or death. There is recovery at gamblers anonymous if you want to follow the program. Huffpo has all the gambling details and ties of the gambling industry to Mc$ame:

    This morning's NY Times:

McCain and Team Have Many Ties to Gambling Industry

A lifelong gambler, Mr. McCain takes risks, both on and off the craps table. He was throwing dice that night not long after his failed 2000 presidential bid, in which he was skewered by the Republican Party’s evangelical base, opponents of gambling. Mr. McCain was betting at a casino he oversaw as a member of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee, and he was doing so with the lobbyist who represents that casino, according to three associates of Mr. McCain.

Mr. McCain declined to be interviewed. ...

Mr. McCain’s spokesman, Tucker Bounds; : “Your paper has repeatedly attempted to insinuate impropriety on the part of Senator McCain where none exists — and it reveals that your publication is desperately willing to gamble away what little credibility it still has.”

    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/28/us/politics/2...
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Notice Tucker Bounds is using Rovian tactics. Attack the messenger by calling them what you are! See where he uses the phrase "gamble away" when describing the New York Times." Sorry Tucker, we are on to your tricks. When watching any statement or negative commercial from McCain always ask yourself, "If its negative and from McCain then the Karl Rove rule means that McCain SUFFERS from the particular weakness he is trying to project on his opponent."

Tucker Bounds, "is desperately willing to gamble away what little credibility it still has..." means McCain camp "is desperately willing to gamble away what little credibility it still has..."

Remember, John McCain INVENTED the Blackberry! (snark!)
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
    Here is an example:

If John McCain strangled Cindy Lou in a jealous rage over losing John McCain losing her family beer fortune at the craps table and the New York Times then reported on it, the McCain camp would respond:

"The liberal paper 'The New York Times' is proving what a murderous, scandalous gambler they are by reporting on John McCain visiting Las Vegas and then putting Cindy Lou McCain out of her misery! The New York Times is rapidly losing all credibility by their murderous innuendos. Mr. McCain is a POW and could never be painted as a murderer. That was HIS money and besides, Mrs. McCain got that money from selling beer."

Frank Rich has a good column today:

WHAT we learned last week is that the man who always puts his “country first” will take the country down with him if that’s what it takes to get to the White House.

The question is why would a man who forever advertises his own honor toy so selfishly with our national interest at a time of crisis. I’ll leave any physiological explanations to gerontologists — if they can get hold of his complete medical records —.................

I wish Bill Clinton would stay away from the media and just STFU. He doesn't help Obama at all.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
NO, he doesn't. It is one reason why Bill WILL NOT stay away from the media. He knows he is making the undecided voter even more undecided. He is NOT making declarative statements for those voters who need their "hero" to tell them how to vote. He is full of praise for McCain and Palin, and will not set up black and white scenarios that appeal to that group who supported his wife who has been proven to be more disengaged and more easily directed by whatever Bill says. If he would just say, "I want ALL the Hillary Clinton voters to know Sarah Palin is NO HILLARY CLINTON and you need to vote for Obama / Biden to protect EVERYTHING my wife has worked for," then her voters would support Obama in droves. Instead, he muddies the water and praises Palin - McSame along with Obama - Biden. Its outrageous. He either needs to use his influence to get voters to VOTE FOR OBAMA or just stay the hell away from the media. I think the Clintons need another vacation with the Bush family at their compound in Maine.

"NBC News just told me there's a deal on the bailout."

It's early. When I read that I thought it referred to Palin bailing out of the Republican ticket.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Of course there is a deal on the bailout. All you have to do is lock politicians in a room for an all nighter to wear them down and remind them they better get started campaigning on Monday, or they might lose their cushy jobs!
  • rainlillie · 1 year ago
I'm sick of Bill Clinton! He really is quite an a-hole. He knows how important this election is, yet he continues to praise McLame/Cinderella on ice. Why doesn't he just endorse them already! It's time for real democrats to call him out, like Chris Rock did. Obama should cut both Clinton's loose and get other Democrats to campaign for him. They haven't been helpful at all. So much for working hard for Obama.
  • jjarlva · 1 year ago
Tom Brokenjaw must go! He gave Steve Schmidt WAY too much talk time and the dem way too little. Same thing he's doing now with the two men running for the Senate from Colorado. The Repub is leading in talk time by 3:1. A moderator, Tom Brokaw is not!!

Bill Clinton wants to shag Sarah Palin. It is disgusting.

The profile shots of Newt's waistline show that he's not one of the "have-nots," and he hasn't missed many meals.
  • Wild_Weasel · 1 year ago
ABC's "This Week" — Why do Newt, Will and the other pigs keep cutting Robert Reich off and keep him from completing his points?
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
i gather from the comments that Bill Clinton can't do anything but praise Palin...i don't know any GOPers who can stand him, so maybe that'll make some of her supporters change their mind about her...

    otherwise, he needs to stfu.
