AMERICAblog: Sunday Talk Shows Open Thread

All those...Ok, had to read and check again to make sure...All those politicians listed are a joke.
  • bacalove · 1 year ago
As an iconic landmark of where we are, a man who espouses to be the most powerful leader in the planet seeks to convince us of his fitness for office with images of Paris Hilton being used (by inference) to demean his opponent. Ouch. Yes, we have a very long way to go and it is not hopeless!
  • RevDrBillyBob · 1 year ago
ABC and FOX have a lineup that is 100% pro-Administration. Yep, seems fair to the Ol' Rev. You godless heathen libruls no doubt have some sort of "different" view of it: FOOLS.
  • Õ¿Õ · 1 year ago
I was thinking last night a good campaign ad for Obama would be one where it shows Paris and Britney and reads: This is McCain's Energy Policy.
  • hawkseye · 1 year ago
    Love it!

    don't trust the polls.
here's one the telecoms love that says we all oppose net neutrality...

With a line up like that, the churches should be full this morning. They'll be happy to tell you how to vote.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
Sunday morning as usual...clowns on parade, so loud and gawdy.

Politics and religion...2 venues through which people express their hopes and aspirations. Both are lacking and based on myths, distortions and PR...but still feed into each other. Sad. Still, I'd pick politics over religion any day--maybe.
  • hawkseye · 1 year ago
Somebody once said something like this: Religion is the poetry of war.
  • Rob Mule · 1 year ago
Stephie sez all McStain's talking points in first 7 seconds of little chat show...Can't seem to hear Ms Pelosi's answers to his questions as he repeats them in a manner to imply she's avoiding his questions. Can't wait to hear what George Will and Cokie will "think".
  • Fireblazes(CheetohsandCatfood) · 1 year ago
Did you say McCain stalking points?

What an inspiration to see our public discourse at the junior high school level.

Repukes can't win unless they divide the people.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
    Exactamente...I'm gonna miss you all.
  • Kes · 1 year ago
This ad is truly pathetic. It really insults its audience, by obviously clipping parts together that don't belong together, and by assuming we're not intelligent enough to look at transcripts of the speech. I gagged.
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
The "6 degrees of Separation" theory has supposedly been proved. It also proves that all browsers and e-mails are totally compromised as to privacy:

Careful...You wouldn't want any anthrax in your Tylenol 3 bottle.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
Feh...good point. Try to avoid OTC drugs anyway...Tylenol 3 is by Rx, though.
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
I think the "suicide" of the anthrax scientist was just a wee bit suspicious...
  • Indigo · 1 year ago
Suspicious? Not all. It isn't as if he drowned in a dry creek bed or lept out of a first floor window.
  • Rob Mule · 1 year ago
No...He was just going about being some very well self-advertised "adult" version of a high school shooter.
I'm amazed he's from Cincinnati...He has the lean, ascetic look of some of this area's most serious ultra wingers with an ego, perhaps, in excess.
Sounds like the profile of a zealot; suicide doesn't seem a probable outcome.
  • jcgraham77 · 1 year ago
I agree totally. I can't imagine that the current adminstration would be behind it tho. They are too busy spreading love and joy throughout the world.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
That's OK for me, though. Starting my sabbatical from the internet today. If I don't use the phone, I can get away with lots...
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
Whoa, how long you gonna be gone? Who's going to make me smile every morning?
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
Maybe a month or so. Got a variety of reasons to get off, basically personal stuff--gained 15 lbs this past couple of years. Hope to be back at least after the conventions.
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
Well, good luck. I'll tell you something I'm going to do. Going to build or buy a computer caninet that I can sit on top of my desk so that I can do my computer work and e-mailing standing up. I think a lot of physical ailments are due to sitting down in front of this computer. You cut off circulation to your legs, your neck is in the "buzzard" position, your back is in the "S" curve position, and your stomach is in your lap pulling on your kidneys.
  • Õ¿Õ · 1 year ago
Speaking for just yourself, of course.
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
Not everyone has an olympic physique like you, GG...

Have a fine sabbatical. For justifiable paranoia fun, read John Twelve Hawks' alternative future novels Traveler and The Dark River. Come back when the wind feels good.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
Thanks. Hopefully I can find them here in NC...(yes, I do intend to catch up on reading...).
  • hawkseye · 1 year ago
    Enjoy!
  • Õ¿Õ · 1 year ago
Why are you bitching? You voted for it twice.
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
    Not bitching; just observing.
  • Indigo · 1 year ago
Yes, exactly. Everything is already compromised. Privacy vanished with the 20th century.
  • hawkseye · 1 year ago
What are the ratings on these shows? I don't think they have very high viewership. Most people are still sleeping or getting ready to go to the beach or whatever.
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
For a look at a pretty well researched commentary on the anthrax suicide, read Linda's comments on les enrages of some minutes ago. Things seriously don't add up, especially with the chain of events concerning the counselor.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
Yes, I made a comment about that yesterday...it's as though she's providing justification for his "suicide"--although she filed her "peace petition" 7/24...say, whatever happened to privacy between therapist and patient, anyway? I'm sure she's busy fluffling up his record at the clinic...
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
There are new laws for therapists and counselors regarding child abuse and people who have committed or plan to commit felonies. The only way I know this is that it was mentioned in an article w/regard to a child abuse case some time ago. Don't have a link.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
    Link, please sir...

Gee, on the Sunday morning tar pits the nearly goo buried beasts can only bleat thru the same tiny airhole they use for breathing...
  • dad · 1 year ago
    i can't watch the shit(s) anymore
  • Õ¿Õ · 1 year ago
Me either. I get some snippets from Crooks & Liars but that's all. Back in the late 90s and through about 2005, I could. Not anymore. Don't care anymore. Just hanging with friends, nice affordable descent wine and cooking is all I care about. And my eclectic looking garden. Really love bricks. I've collected every shape and color stacked around out there and other different artifacts.
  • dad · 1 year ago
    i build rock walls.
    (literally and figuratively)
  • Õ¿Õ · 1 year ago
I love different rocks, too. Have some of those out there with iron objects. Which is pleasing on that level.
  • Õ¿Õ · 1 year ago
It took me awhile but I finally got it where I want and I will always add to it through life with different artifacts that come to me.
  • Õ¿Õ · 1 year ago
I know what you're speaking to but I only go 1/8 inch deep with anyone. There are trails people leave behind and so I wont go. I will go into other things that way, though.
  • Õ¿Õ · 1 year ago
Asthetically, sharp angular bricks look nice pushed up again the rounded pots or lying in one or something. And how they change colors when they get wet from the rain. You can plant herbs inside the holes and the grow out of them. That looks nice sorta covering them up. I like a garden to look haphazard instead of regimented.
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
I haven't watched them for years. I let Rush Limbaugh watch them for me and get the highlites on Monday.

You think it's on that high of a level?
    I was thinking 6th grade.
  • mirth · 1 year ago
    People still watch these shows?

    Busboy:
Not smart to stand at your computer. There is the risk of blood pooling in your legs and that creates, among other ailments, a strain on the heart. Best to periodically get up and move around, plus there are lots of ergonomic desk chairs...I know, I know, ergonomic is socialist-sounding, but they are healthful designs. Here's one, and here's another with a more conventional design.

    OlderAndWiser:
You will be missed! I hope you are back to lay some wisdom on us during the conventions. Have a good break, but don't stay away too long.
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
The first one is kind of strange looking; but, who knows? It might work. Thanks

The so-called journalists that host these shows are so openly partisan that it is disgusting. It is a constant trend to cut off Democratic guests before they are able to complete their answer and allow Republican guest to ramble on, most of the time repeating over and over as if to brain wash and adding no new information. A few Democratic guests have learned to overcome this and are learning keep talking over the monitor to complete their thoughts. They are aware it is rude but have learned it is the only way to survive.
