Obama should put Lieberman somewhere in either the cabinet or agency head and fast. He needs to be pulled out of the Senate because he could damage Obama badly there. In the cabinet, Obama can tell him what to do.

They should have put him in charge of that committee that oversees the janitorial services for the government buildings. Or is that in the House?
And then, too, he might be hiding behind boilers in the basements, reading privileged stuff.
Nevermind. They shoulda just fired the bum.

Good morning..
Friedman in today's NY Times:
If I had my druthers right now we would convene a special session of Congress, amend the Constitution and move up the inauguration from Jan. 20 to Thanksgiving Day. Forget the inaugural balls; we can’t afford them. Forget the grandstands; we don’t need them. Just get me a Supreme Court justice and a Bible, and let’s swear in Barack Obama right now — by choice — with the same haste we did — by necessity — with L.B.J. in the back of Air Force One.
I'll bet he likes Tim Geithner (Treasury Secy) and Larry Summers (WH economic advisor) being named as well.

I haven't reserch this (no time) but I remember that the delay time may have been based on the time it took a horse and bugy to travel from, say, TN, to Washington, in and around 1800. Moving the inauguration up to the first of Dec seems to make a lot of sense - or least right after new years latest. That this could be done is shown by Friedman's example of the swearing in of LBJ right after the conspirators in TX took out Kennedy.

It sounds good as long as what you're losing is hideous and what you're gaining is fabulous. Otherwise, a lot of folks would be saying, "What's the rush?"

An unidentified meat lover in Framingham, Massachusetts, has been regularly leaving butcher-quality cuts of raw meat under a tree in the Town Centre Common since October. While dogs may be excited, people are just confused. After testing the meat, police and town officials have yet to determine its origins, but concluded that the meat doesn't seem to be tainted.
Dave Shulman, who was walking in the park yesterday, said the meat "could be seen as a gift" to the animals.
.. ....I have a larger sense of disquietude about what's looming ahead culturally, the oncoming economic disaster that will wipe out a lot of dance and theater companies, cripple museums, and kill off print publications. A hunkered-down, bunkered-in period of cautious retrenchment smothers creative energies, and art is in what infuses life with meaning and pleasure, takes our minds off of death and paperwork.
But isn't art to a great degree like water, which will find its own path regardless of what impediments it has to work around?

I shudder at GWB being allowed to make any decisions on the future of our country. He has already done serious damage to our country, not even considering his policies, with his E.O's He and the republicans need to acknowledge and address the diasters they have created and NOW work the the Democrats on how to save our country.

Had to watch Lieberman to see what new lies he has to tell. He would not answer some of Brokaw's questions only say "he is looking forward." He also refused to apologize when pressed by Brokaw that he has expressed regrets but NO APOLOGY! I am 78 years old and my hope is I live to see Lieberman crash and burn when he doesn't get re-elected. C'mon people of CT, kick this dirtbag out. Lieberman is hated not only by the Democrats but by a great number of Republicans. He must be very proud.

I just took this test and scored a 78%.
As an American Citizen, I want NAMES AND PARTY ID of people who flunked this test. I especially want the results of that idiot nut job, Michelle Bachmann. Didn't she want all congressmen to be tested to see how "loyal" they were to America? This would be a perfect test for her. I'm sure that fool would FLUNK.
Nate Silver, superstar politician from fivethirtyeight.com, suggests taking on "Don't Ask / Don't Tell"
Says the timing and polls are right for this policy change to gear up for tougher fights ahead:
"This is also precisely the sort of issue on which the Radio Republicans are liable to overplay their hand, missing the fact that Americans are capable of finer points of distinction than "Gay People Bad!", and that there is a sizable swing vote that is ready to see gays and lesbians serve in the army, even if they aren't ready to see them get married or adopt babies. Let the Radio Republicans wallow in their own insignificance.
Put differently, if Obama can't get a DADT repeal passed, then good luck with something like universal health insurance, which though also supported by solid majorities of the public, is not at 75 percent support, and will be met with much, much more vigorous resistance from lobbying groups.
How about FULL FEDERAL BENEFITS for gay couples who are either married or in civil unions?!!
DADT must go, of course.
P.S. Cowboy, you're hot.

Yes, our eye on the prize is for FULL recognition of our marriages, but one thing we have to remember is when the military was fully integrated between the races then African American's civil rights took a huge leap forward. Our enemies KNOW when DADT is ended they have lost a HUGE ARGUMENT to keep us marginalized and treat us like second class citizens. When we are serving openly and honestly in the military its a lot harder for them to argue we should be treated separately. We should use the history of full integration of the races in the military as a template to gaining FULL INCLUSION and EQUALITY. DADT MUST GO NOW! The time is right, and its one less arrow for the Talibangelicals to shoot at us when arguing against our civil rights.
(Thanks for the compliment, by the way... at 43, its nice to hear someone thinks "I'm hot...")

Europe is also another example of where gays and lesbians serve openly and honestly and they ALSO enjoy full marriage equality. That whole sloganeering from the Talibangelical Fascist Republicans needs to stop with the "They hate us for our freedoms..." and "America - Land of the Free!" until they are willing to give ALL of us the same benefits and treat us as equals. GENDER NEUTRALITY AND FREEDOM FOR ALL!

Re Hillary: Jesus! Why isn't this legitimate newspaper source a front page item on Huffingtonpost? Hmm... ----- Hillary plays hardball The first sign of friction in the Obama camp as Mrs Clinton demands - and gets - a purge of her critics before accepting Secretary of State role By Leonard Doyle in Washington -- Sunday, 23 November 2008 http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/america... ---
If this story is true thank god this tyrant didn't become our President. Obama I hope you haven't signed the prenup.
I think the "teevee media" got the message the last couple of weekends by the outrage on the fighting progressive left that we weren't amused they were still acting as if Republicans had won big in the last election.

some of those not yet behind in their payments complained that bankers need to do more to prevent looming loan defaults and home foreclosures. "Why do you want to screw up the people who are making their payments and trying to avoid foreclosure?" demanded Constantine Metallinos, a 59-year-old real estate broker from Agua Dulce. "You are forcing us into default before you'll help us. People who are good citizens get penalized."
IndyMac spokesman Evan Wagner was sympathetic. But he said his Pasadena-based thrift is limited in its flexibility to rework loans. "We're stuck enforcing existing contractual agreements" with outside institutions that own about 93% of IndyMac's loans, Wagner said. "The program is evolving. We're helping people today who we couldn't help a month ago," he said. But loan modifications are "not about a better deal. . . . There's no principal reduction." http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-foodban... Sheila Bair lied.
