yes, we should all call and ask them if this proposal is because of, or in spite of, thier recent unsanctioned infidelities.

What's next? Abolition of marriage by civil ceremony? Requirements to file an intent to breed affidavit upon application to wed?

Dimwits, marriage is a fucking contract between two people who're old enough to be eligible to enter into a legally binding agreement. Matrimony is a sacrament that can be restricted to whomever the little godrep deems suitable.
  • jcgraham77 · 1 year ago
This is how I understand what they are trying to do. Marriage is a church inventioin--the ceremonial part of the traditional civil union and ordained by the church. From what I have read it really doesn't exist on paper except for the license and your grandmas family bible records. Civil unions are what exist in the government's eyes. They are basically wanting to extend the definition of the church sanctioned marriage to umbrella the civil union thus turning an entity only recognized by the government into a religious enterprise that excludes gays, those unmarried by church/gov officials, and eventually those crossing racial lines.
  • randysmith · 1 year ago
" ... the amendment would likely rescind state and local laws that outlaw job discrimination against gays and provide gay partners with health benefits, and it would likely rescind laws protecting unmarried women from things such as being beaten to a bloody pulp by their boyfriends ... where the state court found that the local anti-gay-marriage amendment invalidated state laws covering the domestic abuse of unmarried women..."

I mean, after all John, isn't that the INTENT? None of the Repubs pushing this care a thing about the groups you mention. If they could return to the '50's -- and probably outright ban divorce, fornication [capital crime, maybe!?], prohibit married women in the workplace [Ward Cleaver, anyone!?]. They would probably LOVE Sharia. If they actually knew what it was.
  • jcgraham77 · 1 year ago
That is also why they can't imagine a black man could win the presidency...they think he belongs out back doing yard work. I didn't understand before that the GOP is so backwards socially. I really had no idea that the little old men in my country church I grew up in are the same people in control of the Republican party. Same people--just educated on the law with more money.

I just called Vitter's office and asked how many hookers a hetero can sleep with behind his wife's back and still protect the sanctity of marriage. The young guy on the other line asked "did you just call here?", so perhaps there are others of you that are also calling these freaks today in order to harrass their offices. Good times!!

What we need to do is form a donation pool to pay private investigators to follow them around and track places they frequent for the next 6 mos and who they frequent. The people that come out swinging about gay marriage are usually trying to distract us from their own inequities.

Oh my god that's a great idea. We should call the show Cheaters!
  • Wisterley · 1 year ago
    Thanks. Couldn't find that.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
OH.MY.GOD, John! FUN! I'm calling RIGHT NOW! I LOVE those questions.... LOL I'll report back. They will probably hang up on me, but I'M CALLING!
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
I just called Vitters office, and the woman said, "Sir, we've already taken your call." They are so OBTUSE! I had to tell her this is an internet action. She said, "Fine, we will continue to take your calls." So, I guess that means CALL AWAY!
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Okay, Larry Craig's office hung up. They said they would take a message but as soon as I got to the word "blowjob" - she hung up. KEEP CALLING! They need to pay for their hypocrisy!
  • realitythink · 1 year ago
I just called Craigs office and was transferred to a really mad guy who yelled at me for calling because my number is not a Utah number. Then he called me back claiming to be the capitol hill police and told me I should get a lawyer for calling the Senate and using obsenities. He said you're not allowed to call if your not the senators constituent. Is that true? He kept calling back over and over. I think he was mad cause I stood up to him and told him to enjoy being in the extreme minority next session.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Oh, my. I can't believe they actually called you back and threatened you. I'd like to know what Craig's office considers an obsenity? I mean Craig exposed them to those "obsenities" by his bathroom hijinx! Wow, I'm still floored they called you back with those threats. Its sounds like something Bill O'Rielly would pull.
  • Soundboy_jeff_meanie · 1 year ago
who cares if your number is a Utah number or not?

this is a FEDERAL law they're proposing. as long as you're in America, you have the right to call them on FEDERAL legislation.

I'd call the guy back and explain that to him... I'd also ask how the word 'blowjob' is an obscenity, and I'd probably give him the name and number of my lawyer for good measure... and insist he call.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Where are our Democratic Leaders in response to this outrage? I'm going to call Harry Reid and ask him to make a statement on the hypocrisy of Republicans willing to besmirch "traditional marriage" but then attack the gay and lesbian community with ideals they can not live up to. Democrats need to respond FAST AND HARD when Republicans try that whole "family values" charade.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
    Call!

I did. It was quite satisfying.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Okay, I just called Harry Reid's office and asked that he, as majority leader, join other Democratic leaders in pointing out the hypocrisy of those Republicans, like Vitter and Craig, who have shown their unwillingness to adhere to their supposed standards of traditional marriage in regard to the Marriage Amendment. The staffer seemed quite pleased I called and said she would most "certainly pass along your concern. Thank you so much for calling!"

    THERE!

Democratic leaders need to exploit this political gift to the fullest. Can you imagine the press conference Republicans would be having if the shoe were on the other foot? This is a perfect opportunity for Democrats to get in front of cameras and TRASH the whole charade of Republican "family values." Enough people in America know all about Craig and Vitter, so they wouldn't have to say a whole lot but just bring up how people in glass houses need to just stop throwing stones at others and stop wasting our tax dollars and time on divisive issues.

If Republicans had put as much time and effort into solving our energy problems, and mananging our economy, instead of gouging us with the oil companies, running around trying to outlaw "the gays," and building up their chickenhawk war egos then we wouldn't be seeing 350 drops on the stock market and $4.00 per gallon gasoline!
  • Soundboy_jeff_meanie · 1 year ago
see... 'family values' means "I'll sleep with whomever I want or have anonymous sex in public places, but as long as my wife/family don't know... its all good"

oh, and add "gay people don't have real families" to that statement to keep the religious right happy.
  • brendancalling · 1 year ago
    craig's office got REALLY mad.
"Listen to me: stop calling and treating Senate staff like this. You have no right blah-de-blah-de-blah."

Then he transferred me to someone who wouldn't identify himself so I hung up.
    Good times.

    Female staffer: Senator Vitter's office.
Me: I just called to ask if Senator Vitter is still sleeping with prostitutes.
    (pause)
    Staffer: Yes?
Me: Oh, he is?!! Thank You!!!
    Staffer: I...
    Me: Click

Would be interesting to see if they admit the rumor has been confirmed.
  • Wisterley · 1 year ago
I called and was very polite. Since I'm one half of a same-sex marriage this hits home. And I told them that. I mentioned that neither I nor my husband have ever been arrested for soliciting sex/engaging hookers and that the senator in question would do better trying to protect the rights of Americans instead of taking them away.
  • evan_la · 1 year ago
Well, that was thoroughly satisfying. Craig's office, "I have your comment sir". Vitter's office, "Would you like to leave your name, sir?".
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Idahoans need to vote for Senators who can do the people's work and represent their state's interest instead of voting for homophobic hypocrites who get caught handing out blow jobs in airport bathrooms then spend all their time working in the Senate to attack gay marriage. They deserve to have a Senate office tied up with angry Americans who keep them busy answering for a Senator's behavior. Otherwise, the Republican Party could always urge Craig to step down. Boy, Craig sure is an effective Senator for his state. Ha!

Are you sure this is not some sort of SNL skit?
  • jr · 1 year ago
the repubs picked a guy who left his wife after she was disfigured but won't let gays get married for the first time
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
absolutely! He needs to further explain his position on marriage that he shared with Ellen. Why does he get to throw his wife overboard because she isn't as pretty or young as Cindy? I thought it was "til death do your part if they are gonna stick with "traditional Republican family values." Oh, I get it, everyone ELSE has to adhere to the Republican standards... everyone except Republicans. How convenient.
  • PenguinsInBurma · 1 year ago
I called my Rep. (Barney Frank, lucky me) earlier today and relayed that I wanted this taken seriously and I wanted Cong.Frank to raise public awareness and make a big stink about the hypocrisy of these jerks. I think everyone needs to let their reps know this is unacceptable. I have had e**ckingnuff of these lowlife delusional assholes. I want my country back!!!!!!!!!

    POSTED THIS ON CONGRESS.ORG

    Senator Larry E. Craig (R-ID)

    3rd-term Republican from Idaho.

    Subject:
Two of the Republicans' biggest marriage hypocrites - Larry Craig, who was accused of trying to have sex with a man (who was not his wife) in a bathroom, and David Vitter who has been repeatedly accused of frequenting hookers .......

    To:
    President George Bush
    Rep. William Sali
    Sen. Larry Craig
    Sen. Mike Crapo

    June 28, 2008

As you may recall, the Republicans in Congress want to amend the US Constitution with anti-gay language that would supposedly "ban gay marriage." In fact, the amendment would likely rescind state and local laws that outlaw job discrimination against gays and provide gay partners with health benefits, and it would likely rescind laws protecting unmarried women from things such as being beaten to a bloody pulp by their boyfriends (this actually happened in Ohio, where the state court found that the local anti-gay-marriage amendment invalidated state laws covering the domestic abuse of unmarried women). Anyway, who is on the very short list of Senators introducing the "Marriage Protection Amendment" in the Senate? Why none other than foot-tapping Senator Larry Craig (R-ID), and whore-mongering Senator David Vitter (R-LA). You'll recall that the very-married Larry Craig was caught tapping his foot alongside a really hot male cop in an airport bathroom. And the very-married and very-family-values-proclaiming David Vitter, we now know, has repeatedly frequented female hookers.

So there you have it. Two of the Republicans' biggest marriage hypocrites - Larry Craig, who was accused of trying to have sex with a man (who was not his wife) in a bathroom, and David Vitter who has been repeatedly accused of frequenting hookers (who also were not his wife) - want to amend the Constitution to "protect" marriage.

Perhaps you all should call Larry Craig's and David Vitter's offices and ask them the following:

    Senator Larry Craig
    tel: 202-224-2752
Message: Can a married guy give handjobs and blowjobs to other guys in bathrooms and still defend heterosexual marriage?

    Senator David Vitter
    Phone: (202) 224-4623
Message: How many whores does a married guy have to sleep with before he's no longer defending marriage? And does the price of the whore matter?
