"She's never going to understand that only 20% of the population (i.e., Republicans) find the dumb beauty queen schtick a quality we look for in our leaders (and TV commentators). "
A bit sexist, eh?
We just got through TWO TERMS of a President who was somewhat good looking and talked semi-coherently in a manner that made him appear to be an idiot. But because he was a man he was ineligible to compete in beauty contests...
Maybe if you had said "dumb beauty queens OR CHEERLEADERS" you could lump Sarah and George together in a non-sexist manner.

I originally write bimbos and himbos, but figured someone would say that's sexist too. In any case, she does play the dumb beauty queen. I don't see how it's sexist to call her on it. If anything, I'd think it rather feminist to have contempt for the whole beauty queen culture.
Oh, and Bush didn't play the beauty thing. She does. They both play regular-guy stupid, but she does it, intentionally, with sex thrown in. Bush did not. Thank God.

Bush did it (played regular-guy stupid) with farts, instead of sex, thrown in. In fact, I heard he still farts on his staff in Dallas. He somehow thinks that farting on people, or in their general vicinity, is hysterically funny and makes him a "regular guy." Bush is a prime example of how money and supposed breeding doesn't mean you will have any class or intelligence whatsoever.

George Bush had been roundly satirized for being a "cheerleader"--here and elsewhere. And he's still dumb as a tack and probably has more brain cells--despite the coke and alcohol--than Sarah Palin.

Come on -- just try to tell me you don't think this guy is one, hot stud
Bush was sort of aiming for a group of people with his "Nukular" talk, and predicate nominative/A=B speaking style, "I am the decider" because I make decisions. He also laced his speeches with messages to fundamentalists christian voters, (ie culture of life, personal redemption, etc. etc.)
It may drove educated people up the frickin wall, but he is trying to speak out more to Abilene Texas than the Upper Eastside of Manhattan.
Bush was a horrible speaker, and he had an awful mannerism, that he was treating every one as third graders, when delivering his speeches. However, he wasn't a dummy, just a crude politician, who didn't care for details or was oblivious to information outsides of his own set ideas. If anything that blinded Bush, it was his arrogance.
I hate to use the analogy, but he was like Hitler when he was trying to achieve power, who believed in "Triumph of Will" and was also a very crude speaker.

There's a video on YouTube of The Chimp giving a speech while governor. He is verbally strong, articulate, forceful. Stunning when one thinks of his......uh....limited verbal abilities during the last several years.
So what in hell happened? Wouldn't surprise me if he is in the early stages of some Alzheimer's-type illness.
Remember Reagan in his last years as President?

I think why we liberals thought Bush was an idiot, especially on the stump, because he came across as a condescending idiot. However, I think he had a crude way of speaking. He wasn't trying to appease us, he was trying to make his fanatical followers more fanatical. His speeches were obnoxious, but they had all these sly references that social conservatives could pick up. I think Stephen Colbert said it best after the Republican 2006 defeat, "We were this close to having Jesus coming back!"
Bush was smarter than he came across as President, but I think his main character flaw was he was incredibly arrogant, and he lacked some serious tools to be president. He refused to use critical thinking, and refuse to hear all sides of the issue. It also appears, that the last person who talked to Bush about an US policy matter won, and that person seemed to be Cheney most of the time. He also confuse policy debate as some sort of form of weakness or appeasement.

Oh, geez! The "great communicator" is back. Wasn't she a communications major at several, I mean MANY, schools? Does her brain work that fast that she can't form a single good sentence before talking? Honestly, it almost makes me want Ronald Reagan back.

What she and most people who come from these states that live on federal government largess, is that if California got as much money per capital from the federal government as Alaska does, it would not be debt-ridden at all!
met00
Hay, I have an idea. Why don't we move Alaska from a debtor state to a creditor state like California (where for every dollar you send the Federal Government you only get about 85 cents back). Then after a few years of that you can tell us all how you like being on the creditor end of things instead of the deadbeat end of it.
I find it funny that the states that get more back from the feds than they pay to the feds are the first ones that complain about federal intrusion into their lives. I know, as a former CT and now CA resident that I would love to live in a state where we just got back what we paid in.

Right -- stick to the corporatist/libertarian plan. Bankrupt all governments. Eliminate all social programs. Destroy the middle class. Privatize the infrastructure. Eliminate education. Turn the US into a third-world country with a handful of ultra-wealthy lording it over a mass of wage slaves.. That's been the plan all along. And it's working.

They need to cut spending, if you bail them out they will never change. As we are seeing once the bailout ball starts rolling it wont stop, it's a huge moral hazard.

All I would say to Republicans, if you want to lose 2012, have Palin as your Presidential nominee, because it will be a Alf Landon/Barry Goldwater percentage loss. It isn't that Palin is an idiot,(okay, she is an idiot) she is surrounded by idiots, hand picked idiots, who couldn't manage their own checkbook, let alone run a campaign.
You want to bet she will have some bozo with strong ties to Operation Rescue in her campaign?

She is a "blithering idiot". Republicans seem to attract them like flies on crap.
"Big Government" is just a catch phrase that is wearing out. It is the job of government to regulate the private sector on behalf of the American people as a whole. Without government control then whom controls? Why the rich and powerful of course. Well we can't vote out the rich and powerful so the American people become powerless under their dictates.
Republicans have never "provided opportunities" to the general public that the public cannot afford to pay cash for. There will never be equality under republican government because the larger part of the population cannot afford the education needed to succeed. What a waste of resources that is!
The Sara Palins of the world are clowns covered in media make-up in more ways than just eye shadow. Perfect republican stooges ready to serve the whims of the rich and powerful not the American people.
