AMERICAblog: The climate of hate that McCain and Palin have created

The FBI and Secret Service will have their hands full for the next four years, keeping "domestic terrorists" in check. Aryan Nation will re-awaken.

Hate helps McCain, because it will be easier to beat Obama if he is dead.
  • shrrrr · 1 year ago
Frankly, that's the only way they could steal this election. It wont be a Florida or Ohio situation but something much, much worse. I'm frightened.
  • jcgraham77 · 1 year ago
What is even scarier is where the economy will head if that was to happen along with the race wars that would follow.

Will four years be enough to clean out the trash? We can only hope.

In part, I wonder if this new, ugly facet of McCain's campaign is a result of alienating a lot of "normal" Republicans. He may not be able to excite the moderate, restrained Republicans enough to fill a venue thanks to his atrocious campaign, but the rabid base will always come out as long as you give them a hate-a-long.
  • Hardy_Haberman · 1 year ago
McCain and Palin need to be brought up on "insighting to riot charges". Their rallies are looking more and more like Ku Klux Klan meetings.
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
agreed. That cop in FL is under investigation, and may possibly be fired for his intro of McCain the other day. He was in uniform when he made the remarks. If I were a democrat living in Lee County FL, you bet I would be talking to the news media.
  • RenoAnne · 1 year ago
McCain/Palin supporters should be designated as an official hate group and have their rallies shut down until such time as they can behave like human beings (never).
  • sukabi1 · 1 year ago
funny you should say that... full Max Blumenthal article:
    http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2008/10/10/pa...

Remember the old, tired, lethargic "crowds" McCain was drawing prior to his convention... they are an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT GROUP of folks than the crowds he and Ms. Palin are drawing now... Ms. Palin brings:
When Blumenthal appeared on Thursday's Rachel Maddow Show, he began by explaining that AIP -- which has links to both neo-Confederate parties in the South and the theocratic Constitutional Party -- serves as "a haven for anti-government extremists, anti-government militia members, and conspiratorial figures who believe that the United States government plans to implement a New World Order."

Copied below in case it's taken down. I thought about reporting it, but maybe it's good having the evidence of the hew much hate there is right out in the open. Or maybe not:

Same at red state. They are calling the pending Obama victory a "coup" and inciting people to riot on the streets.

Can McCain really be wanting to riot his way to the White House ?
  • Ken Clark · 1 year ago
McInsane doesn't care how he gets to the White House only that he does. He wants to one up his dad and granddad by outranking them as commander-in-chief.
  • Leo49823 · 1 year ago
The press is finding it harder and harder to even attend these rallies. The audience is screaming at them "faggot media!" and "goddamn liberal media!"

Most journalists are so afraid of retaliation by right-wing goons that they won't even report some of this stuff. Things are getting scary, but there is no excuse for the cowardly media to bow to Republican thugs.
  • MikeinSanJo · 1 year ago
Then shouldn't the Secret Service be investigating Palin and McCain for inciting to riot and threatening a presidential candidate?
  • shrrrr · 1 year ago
    Yes.
  • Donna in Rome · 1 year ago
And the fact that they (at least Palin) are referring to a sitting senator as an unpatriotic, America-hating terrorist?

At the very least, with all the Ayers BS, shouldn't the government and people of Illinois speak up and make their voices heard? What about a few lawsuits? After all, they're the ones who voted Obama into office. So this is all offensive slander against them, too -- an entire state -- implying that they were so stupid, blind, or naive that they elected an unAmerican terrorist -- first to a state office, and then to a national one.

I want to hear some yelling back from Illinois!

Like most of you, I have no love for Dubya, and he's caused far more harm than good lo these past 8 years...

But seriously, maybe it's time for the President to show he's got a pair, get on the TV, and instead of trying to justify his war-lovin' worldview or his Administrations' none-existent business acumen, he should hit the airwaves & internets to say "I respect both candidates. They're both proud Americans. They're both proud patriots. Neither of them is anything but a good American. To say otherwise is to incite violence on another Americans AND, might I add, an elected official, neither of which will be tolerated on my watch."

COme on, Dubya, for once...FOR ONCE...do the right thing.
  • houstonray · 1 year ago
You know, if he did that, I'd finally have a tiny ounce of respect for once in his 8 years, but we know that's really a pipe dream. Sad that it is, but it would be nice wouldn't it?

You know who SHOULD come out immediately? Former Presidents Clinton AND Bush Sr. They've done so much work for humanitarian issues, it's time for them to come out in a biPartisan way and tell everyone to stop it now...
  • jcro · 1 year ago
I just called McCain’s office in Arizona (this is the best place to reach a human because of the time difference from the east cost) and spoke to one of his staffers and asked if McCain condones the hate speech yelled out at his campaign rallies. His staffer said what I expected, which was, “Of course he doesn’t condone it” so I asked for him to give me a specific example of where and when McCain said he’s against it. He couldn’t and wouldn’t and I pressed him, saying that McCain then MUST condone the hate speech because I have yet to hear him say one thing to the media or stop in the middle of one of his campaign speeches to renounce the horrible things yelled out from the crowd. So the staffer then said - “Well, it’s common sense.” So I said it’s not just common sense and that I’d really like for him to cite one single instance, direct me to one specific place where I can read McCain’s quote against the hate speech. The staffer said, “I’ll be sure to pass your message on to the Senator.” and I said, “Yes, I’m sure you will”

I also called Harry Reid’s office asking his staffer to please have Senator Reid come out against the fear-mongering and hate-speech and she politely said she didn’t know at this time if Sen. Reid had anything prepared but she would gladly pass on the message and the concern.

Please everyone, please make these calls - I am sincerely fearful of the worst and would hate to have it happen and done not even the smallest thing I could to stop it.

Again, here are the numbers to phone:

    Senator McCain
    Campaign - (703) 418-2008
    Senate office in DC -
    Phone: (202) 224-2235

    Senate office in AZ -
    Phone: (602) 952-2410
    Fax: (602) 952-8702

Also - it’s not a bad idea to phone Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid and ask them to come out against such abhorrent behavior.

    You can contact them here:
    Nancy Pelosi -
    Washington, D.C. Office:
    Phone: (202) 225-4965

Someone in the media needs to put this post in front of McCain's face and tell him point-blank that his campaign is causing this to get out of control. Then the FBI needs to have a little heart to heart with all the McCain goons and shut down the violent rhetoric.

Here is a link to the list of local field offices: http://www.secretservice.gov/field_offices.shtml

I sent a comment using the comment form, and I've been trying to call the local office all day and am getting a busy signal. I think we all need to inundate them with emails and calls asking them to speak to the McCain campaign and end this now.

As much as I'd like it to stand and show people the hate that is out there, I'm more scared for the safety of Obama and would rather this be shut down now...
  • PhilipGraham · 1 year ago
Shouldn't the Secret Service be investigating these monsters?
  • dricey · 1 year ago
Ordinarily, the Secret Service would. But George Bush is President, and over the last 8 years the Secret Service and FBI have been Republicanized, so they'll wink at all this, and if someone does take a shot at Obama, they'll whitewash the 'investigation'.

    After all, IOKIYAR.
  • PeteWa · 1 year ago
I pity this country if the McCain / Palin Repuke crazies do act on their irrational hate.

It's always been this way in our country, the wingnuts like to say that the left is so hateful and violent, but you look at the rhetoric of the right, and you look at how many "liberal" politicians have been assassinated compared to the ZERO number of wingnut Pols who have also been killed to see the ugly truth of the small minded, hate filled losers on the right.

But if anything does happen to Obama, the violence of the sixties is going to look like a walk in the park, and these wingnut cowards will not believe the dragon they will awaken with their craven cowardice.
  • samiinh · 1 year ago

Just what I always knew, racis, is alive and well in America, and the Republican party and this candidate & his running mate are living proof of that. Someone needs to step up and stop this bullshit and stop it now, before some over enraged cracker from Tuscaloosa or some place in the arm pit of the south actually does take a potshot at a Obama.

These are the VERY same people who, when you call them out to their face for being racists, deny it. This is the Republican party of Ronald Reagan, enjoy it folks!

The secret service should be investigating this, and the matching federal funds should be withdrawn from McCain's campaign if it doesn't stop. This joker has wanted to be President so long and loves himself so much, that he cannot comprehend WHY he is losing, he thinks is the greatest thing since white bread, and he can't fathom as to why he isn't ahead, and it's simple, he is a man who is no longer relevant, in the crisis that we are in, we need a leader with the inspiration of FDR, not of the dour nature of Herbert Hoover.

I seem to think that McCain was on the verge of using a slur when he called Obama "That One", it was code and it was racist. McCain no longer has any honor.
  • samiinh · 1 year ago
Actually, I think it's sad to see a man like McCain, at the end of a long career of public service, sink to this level of sleaze. He has devalued his entire life's work by selling his soul to the Rovian campaign that bears his name. Truly a sad end of a long career.

Someone goes to a mccain rally and simply has a button or sign that is against them, and they are put in jail, busted for trespassing, thrown in a truck for simply asking a question (e.g. Amy Goodman),

But someone threatens to kill Obama and NOTHING is done?????

    WHY?

Truly there has got to be a way to ARREST those 2 posters at Craig's list what with IP addresses and more than makes it easy to locate people.

WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT IT?

Just got this email from our local democratic party; PBS has an online poll posted asking if Sarah Palin is
qualified. Apparently the right wing knew about this
in advance and are flooding the voting with YES votes.

The poll will be reported on PBS and picked up by
mainstream media. It can influence undecided voters
    in swing states.

Please do two things -- takes 20 seconds.

    1) Click on link and vote yourself.

    Here's the link:
    http://www.pbs.org/now/polls/poll-435.html

    2) Then send this to every single Obama-Biden voter
you know, and urge them to vote and pass it on.

The last thing we need is PBS saying their viewers
    think Sarah Palin is qualified.
  • Donna in Rome · 1 year ago
That's actually an old poll. It was intended as one of PBS's weekly polls, posted originally on September 5th. Check this info out:
    http://www.pbs.org/now/palin-poll.html

As they say themselves, "It's no longer on the homepage; in fact, it's no longer a page that the online user can navigate to using menus, but hundreds of thousands of unique visitors are still accessing the poll and voting."

In fact, a couple of weeks ago, when I got an e-mail with the URL, they had already been flooded by right-wingers, and since then the numbers haven't moved very far away from an even split. It's now stuck at 49%-49%.

I don't understand why they don't take it down, like most sites do at the end of a poll (if it never ends, how can you really tally the results?), and as a number of people suggest on their feedback forum: http://www.pbs.org/now/php/quotes.php?quote_dat...

If McCain was still campaigning to win, he would say something. This is the kind of scorched-earth retreat Hitler wanted the Germans to do in the closing days of WW2. They know it's going to make it more difficult to win, but it's more important to leave as big a mess as possible in their way down.
  • jcro · 1 year ago
What if we all got together and started calling McCain’s campaign office or even his senate offices and asked “Does Senator McCain condone the remarks of people attending his campaign rallies when they yell out that Senator Obama is a terrorist or that he should be killed?”

I’m assuming the person on the other end of the phone would say “Of course not!”
And then we could say, “Well they must because neither he nor Gov. Palin renounce such remarks/behavior so they must condone it.”

I wonder if we all started calling, how quickly (hopefully) the two of them would change their tune? I mean, there’s a lot of us out there that are appalled at this and actually a little scared, and since the media won’t ask those question, maybe we should.

If you’re so inclined to call - here are the phone numbers

Yes, I did go to redstate.org they are blaming the GOP in control. LOL
    Here's a quick paragraph:

"The Republicans are complicit in the whole situation also because the sub prime lending really ramped up after the turn of the century. They raised no protests or red flags (outside of a few like McCain) for fear of being called racists or 'evil, rich Republicans'."
  • Findan · 1 year ago
McCain and Palin are inducing this hate and fear-mongering. No excuses! McCain's defense of the conduct in question is reprehensible. McCain is speaking as though it is only Obama's campaign that has strong words about this - and labeling it as an 'attack' on his supporters (violent language)....c'mon just throw another (or two) logs on the fire.

Is this just leading up to another potential crisis moment that will see crisis solutions. Remember, create the crisis...provide the solution.

Not only are they not disavowing the hate speech, they are attacking Obama for attacking it:
"Barack Obama's attacks on Americans who support John McCain reveal far more about him than they do about John McCain. It is clear that Barack Obama just doesn't understand regular people and the issues they care about. He dismisses hardworking middle class Americans as clinging to guns and religion, while at the same time attacking average Americans at McCain rallies who are angry at Washington, Wall Street and the status quo," reads a statement from spokesman Brian Rogers. (from HuffPo)

McCain & Palin have not created a 'climate of hate'. Black people did not create a 'climate of hate' among the members of the Ku Kux Klan & their right wing sympathizers. Jewish people did not create a 'climate of hate among nazis & their right wing sympathizers.
Right wing fanatic 'leaders' exploit the inadequacies of hatemongers. They choose victims in order to have some one to persecute. They do this because this is the kind of people they are. Right wing ideology depends on the myth of a boogeyman. The KKK et al persecuted Catholics, Jewish people, non-white people, etc. Hitler et al persecuted Jewish people, gypsies, homosexuals, etc. The right wing fanatics that currently control the republican political party persecute liberals, the media, homosexuals, non-white people, non-christians, etc.
Right wing fanatics cannot be reasoned with. Inviting them for any type of intellectual discussion is a complete waste of time. They are basically cowards. They live in fear of anybody and any idea that challenges their world view. If they can 'kill' everybody that disagrees with them, then they can prove they are 'right'.
They don't view anything in terms of reality vs. fantasy. It is their view (i.e. the 'right' view) and any challenging view (i.e. the 'wrong' view). They can believe completely in fantasies like 'obama is a socialist', like 'the world was created 7000 years ago', like the 'media has a liberal bias', like 'the holocaust didn't happen' , like iraq was responsible for the 9/11 calamity, like pom pom Palin is 'qualified' to be responsible for executive decisions, like - well - i'm sure you can add more.
Please consider what right wing fanatics are. Please be prepared to overcome their hate.

I think this is an excellent idea.

I called and said it's time for John McCain to clear and explicitly renounce this kind of talk and the people who make it.

    Holy shit.

We need to lobby for this to be addressed in a question at next week's debate at Hofstra University. McCain must be forced to address this in a debate!!

Is Bill O'Reilly calling on McCain to stop his crowds from calling for the assassination of Obama? Since O'Reilly is always screaming at the top of his lungs at the so-called liberal blog sites that "allegedly" call for violence against conservatives, I would like for him to take to his show and call on all conservatives that go to McCain/Palin rallies to denounce the calls for violence against Obama. Will he do it? Will he call on John McCain to denounce his supporters as well?

That first ad is confusing... it seems to denigrate "racists" and "crazy rednecks"... could it be a bad joke?

Where's the FBI in all of this?
