AMERICAblog: The cover of TIME, circa 2004

    That's just bizarre.

I dont' usually read the rags much, but like Time magazine once in awhile.... But today, I was offended by the photo cover of this weeks issue. I was in the grocery store checkout line, all of which are interminable with the holiday coming up. So I picked it up of the rack to read and pass the time, and saw the cover of obama's head superimposed as FDR - sitting in that old car w/the top hat, glasses, and cig holder. At best, it was in very bad taste, but worse, is that photos like that, especially on the cover of a national magazine just incite more racially charged hate incidents and promote an already tense situation in many areas of the country. Racial hate crimes have increased since the election. It's bad enough without Time pulling that bs. Was that photo really necessary to prove a point?

    or sell a magazine?

How is that racially charged??? They're just superimposing Obama's head (his identification point) onto a relatively well known photo of a leader that had to deal with a situation that looks similar to the one we are now in.

Here's the cover for those that haven't seen it:

    time?
  • ndtovent · 1 year ago
Yeah, as in "Time-LIFE" - mostly of off topic, but not completely. I needed to vent and this was the first semi-related topic.

    Uh, that's LIFE
  • scottinsf · 1 year ago
    Very weird.

    Still, it's a super-ironic picture, tho. ;)

    Whoa. Creepy.
  • Alrightythen · 1 year ago
Wow. Freaky. And who says time isn't circular?
  • russ · 1 year ago
That is freaky indeed, that Time magazine would print LIFE as the title on their cover! :)

Has anyone read this issue? Can you tell us who Manny Ramirez voted for? Maybe he wrote himself in.

Well, now we know where the Republican party strategy for 2008 came from. Demonstrates how creative and thinking far ahead the Republicans are. Really, can you imagine they had their presidential campaign strategy LOCKED in 4 years in advance. Such brilliant advanced planning. No wonder they have beaten the Democrats in most presidential elections.

Of course, what they failed to plan on was that Tina Fey would turn them down. <g> Oh well, they went with the next best. God Bless Tina Fey!
