Why are so many Republicans so bitter,
cruel, vindictive and other favorite personality traits?

My uber Repub father is a mean bastard. He feels entitled to cut in lines at the bank, go through the commercial lines at its drive-up.

As a child, being an animal lover, he would drown any and all kittens I would bring home, also he installed those mid-evil looking metal spring traps all over the yard to kill moles.
  • Blueflash · 1 year ago
Conservatives - oh so "pro-life" - do tend to take a sickening delight in killing animals. Noticed that many years ago.
  • Rob Mule · 1 year ago
I think I met your dad a few weeks ago at the bank...This well-dressed older man cut in front of me and the teller wouldn't wait on him. He turned around to me looking like he was going to explode and I said, "I think she wants you to get in line, sir." He replys with a straight though mean face, "Well, I'm from Kentucky and we don't obey rules." I said, "Well, that's the kind of thinking that has America in the mess she's in , isn't it? Plus, my family's most likely lived around here longer and we do obey rules." The man turned to the teller and asked if I was right, the teller nodded and the man, to his crabby insolent credit, got in line.
The old crab needed aromatherapy or something...

me thinks it's from years upon years (centuries perhaps?) of social conditioning that 'white men' are superior to other races and to women (of any race) as well.

It seems some have yet to let go of that notion and join the rest of us in the 21st century.

I'm so sorry your father did that to you (drowning the kittens) when you were a child. That's unforgivable but you must learn to forgive him nonetheless.
  • Patrick_Bateman · 1 year ago
forgiveness is not possible, this is just the tip of the iceberg
  • PaulW · 1 year ago
He DROWNED kittens?! Um, aren't there laws against that...?
  • Patrick_Bateman · 1 year ago
This was in the 70's, I never saw him do it, my mom told me years later. He told me he found homes for them.

He really was/is an evil bastard.
  • woodroad34 · 1 year ago
My ultra-conservative friend refers to Neo-cons as democrats who've been mugged (despite what the current definition of neo-con is). So, by his definition these mean people are really emotional midgets who are reacting to some bad thing they endured and they want the rest of the world to feel bad as well. Which again goes to my theory that the Republican Party's majority is sociopathic or psychotic -- and I'm serious about that.
  • Patrick_Bateman · 1 year ago
I couldn't agree more. My bride and I have been saying that for years

Thy really think one must 'suffer'.
  • woodroad34 · 1 year ago
My parents, who were raised on farms in the early years of the 20th Century, did that, too. They were sweet people, but that's how they handled varmints back then.

My guess is that in Marilyn Musgrave's paradigm, you don't congratulate evil, or congratulate evil that will support satanic policies... congratulating the opponent is congratulating their policies (

Alan Keyes didn't congratulate then Senator elect Obama in 2004, because I don't think he wanted to give an ounce of praise to his only issue he cares about: abortion
  • annatopia · 1 year ago
funny, the same thing is happening here in my texas senate district. wendy davis, a democrat, kicked the imcumbent republican's ass after a brutal, nasty race. kim brimer (R-LOSER) STILL has not conceeded to wendy.

oh well, fuck that dirty kim brimer (he used taxpayer $$ to pay off personal loans, a main reason he lost). at least i have a democratic senator in the texas lege now.

    http://www.change.gov/agenda/civil_rights_agenda/

This list is definitely something our community should keep in mind and incorporate into our current sense of heightened activism.

    The Obama-Biden Plan

    * Expand Hate Crimes Statutes: In 2004, crimes against LGBT Americans constituted the third-highest category of hate crime reported and made up more than 15 percent of such crimes. Barack Obama cosponsored legislation that would expand federal jurisdiction to include violent hate crimes perpetrated because of race, color, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, or physical disability. As a state senator, Obama passed tough legislation that made hate crimes and conspiracy to commit them against the law.

    * Fight Workplace Discrimination: Barack Obama supports the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, and believes that our anti-discrimination employment laws should be expanded to include sexual orientation and gender identity. While an increasing number of employers have extended benefits to their employees' domestic partners, discrimination based on sexual orientation in the workplace occurs with no federal legal remedy. Obama also sponsored legislation in the Illinois State Senate that would ban employment discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.

    * Support Full Civil Unions and Federal Rights for LGBT Couples: Barack Obama supports full civil unions that give same-sex couples legal rights and privileges equal to those of married couples. Obama also believes we need to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act and enact legislation that would ensure that the 1,100+ federal legal rights and benefits currently provided on the basis of marital status are extended to same-sex couples in civil unions and other legally-recognized unions. These rights and benefits include the right to assist a loved one in times of emergency, the right to equal health insurance and other employment benefits, and property rights.

    * Oppose a Constitutional Ban on Same-Sex Marriage: Barack Obama voted against the Federal Marriage Amendment in 2006 which would have defined marriage as between a man and a woman and prevented judicial extension of marriage-like rights to same-sex or other unmarried couples.

    * Repeal Don't Ask-Don't Tell: Barack Obama agrees with former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff John Shalikashvili and other military experts that we need to repeal the "don't ask, don't tell" policy. The key test for military service should be patriotism, a sense of duty, and a willingness to serve. Discrimination should be prohibited. The U.S. government has spent millions of dollars replacing troops kicked out of the military because of their sexual orientation. Additionally, more than 300 language experts have been fired under this policy, including more than 50 who are fluent in Arabic. Obama will work with military leaders to repeal the current policy and ensure it helps accomplish our national defense goals.

    * Expand Adoption Rights: Barack Obama believes that we must ensure adoption rights for all couples and individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation. He thinks that a child will benefit from a healthy and loving home, whether the parents are gay or not.

    * Promote AIDS Prevention: In the first year of his presidency, Barack Obama will develop and begin to implement a comprehensive national HIV/AIDS strategy that includes all federal agencies. The strategy will be designed to reduce HIV infections, increase access to care and reduce HIV-related health disparities. Obama will support common sense approaches including age-appropriate sex education that includes information about contraception, combating infection within our prison population through education and contraception, and distributing contraceptives through our public health system. Obama also supports lifting the federal ban on needle exchange, which could dramatically reduce rates of infection among drug users. Obama has also been willing to confront the stigma -- too often tied to homophobia -- that continues to surround HIV/AIDS. He will continue to speak out on this issue as president.

    * Empower Women to Prevent HIV/AIDS: In the United States, the percentage of women diagnosed with AIDS has quadrupled over the last 20 years. Today, women account for more than one quarter of all new HIV/AIDS diagnoses. Barack Obama introduced the Microbicide Development Act, which will accelerate the development of products that empower women in the battle against AIDS. Microbicides are a class of products currently under development that women apply topically to prevent transmission of HIV and other infections.

Let's see if some of our resident Republicans, Palin Applogists and McCain fans will come in and tells us again how John McCain and Barack Obama had the same position on gay issues.

Replace Bush's head with Anthony Hopkins' Hannibal character -- or not. It may be easier just to call him Hannibush.
  • RitornaVincitor · 1 year ago
Very typical of born again "Christians" who just KNOW that they are right because GOD says so, and therefore it is impossible for them to concede defeat or apologize. I work with a guy who, in the immediate aftermath of 9/11 when we were all in shock and trying to cope, told me repeatedly that gays were to blame for 9/11. God, he said, was allowing America to be punished for permitting homosexuality. That guy has yet to apologize to me for that outrageous slur. Even his hero Jerry Falwell apologized for saying the same thing, though Falwell eventually withdrew his apology and reaffirmed that outrageous slander just before his death. Now THAT'S born again! It takes a special kind of hatred to be that born again.
  • woodroad34 · 1 year ago
I have an ultra-conservative acquaintance who pulled the same kind of crap for the last 8 years. I used to call him "friend", but he's just an "acquaintance" now. However, without apologizing for the screaming, spitting in my face and insults, he's now all sweetness and light (although, I do believe he's planning on moving to Canada--I've offered to give him my file from 8 years ago on how to go about it).
  • Kathryn · 1 year ago
Does he know that the whole country of Canada has same sex marriage?
  • woodroad34 · 1 year ago
Well, he's gay. However, he doesn't understand it (he's 75). He voted against Prop 8 because that was the party line; he couldn't care less whether it passed or not, actually. He drank the cruelaid a looooong time ago.

How long before they figure out how to apply this legalized discrimination to gays?????

WASHINGTON — A last-minute Bush administration plan to grant sweeping new protections to health care providers who oppose abortion and other procedures on religious or moral grounds has provoked a torrent of objections, including a strenuous protest from the government agency that enforces job discrimination laws.
The proposed rule would prohibit recipients of federal money from discriminating against doctors, nurses and other health care workers who refuse to perform or to assist in the performance of abortions or sterilization procedures because of their “religious beliefs or moral convictions.” It would also prevent hospitals, clinics, doctors’ offices and drugstores from requiring employees with religious or moral objections to “assist in the performance of any part of a health service program or research activity” financed by the Department of Health and Human Services.

Actually, the more I think about it, the more I enjoy her obvious misery. Let her squirm. Let her continue to make herself look even worse. With each passing day that she refuses to concede or even thank her staff she proves how right the voters were to send her packing.

  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
You hit the nail right on the head. That woman is a text book sociopath.
  • woodroad34 · 1 year ago
It amazes me that sociopaths have frequently been elected lately. It must be that they have the fervor and charisma of Hitler at just the right point in time (always a time of anguish)--and that's an apt comparison for anyone who feels squeamish about that. People like Musgrove would put gays (and any other perceived helpless group) in a prison camp or worse, if they could. Unfortunately, Hitler had the decency to realize when it was 'over'--a small, but significant redemption.

Marilyn - GO away already! Be-gone before someone drops a house on you- bee-atch! ...anyone got a bucket of water to throw on this witch? She's a Shrew, through & through!
  • MaudGonne · 1 year ago
Following the enactment of Colorado's Amendment 2, its opponents filed suit claiming that it unlawfully singled out gays and lesbians as a class to deny them rights that other citizens not only possess but take for granted. These rights include access to housing, government services, public accommodations and public and private employment opportunities without regard to an individual's race, sex, religion, age, ancestry, political belief or other characteristic that defines each of us as a unique human being. Amendment 2, the opponents argued, therefore denied gays and lesbians the equal protection of the laws, which is a guarantee of the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. To the surprise of many, the U.S. Supreme Court agreed.

Bush has a well established habit of ignoring the personal space of others. He manhandles men and women alike. I'm sure we can all remember the issue he has with men and bald heads-- can't keep his hands off them. It's photos like this, as well as the incident with the German PM and many, many other instances that show him off to the world as the boorish frat boy that he is. You'd never catch Obama doing something like this. He's much more formal, and respectful of his fellow human beings.
