AMERICAblog: The entire national mall will be used for the massive crowds expected at Obama's inauguration

  • Eclectablog · 1 year ago
My wife and I are going to the inauguration to sell her new Obama mosaic poster (http://revolutionaryviews.com/obama_poster.html). Does anyone have any suggestions where we might set up shop? Neither of us knows the D.C. area so we're at a bit of a loss. We have accomodations about 20 minutes drive away but I have no idea where to position ourselves. It would preferably be somewhere not too far from an ATM where we can make deposits over the course of the day.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received!

Beautiful poster! But I can't help you with DC. Reminds me, though, that my late great-aunt had a picture of FDR hanging in her living room until the day she died. I'll bet many people will do the same with their Obama pictures.

    Wonderful news!

I am still hoping for tickets, but even if that doesn't happen, knowing that so much of the mall is going to be open to the public is just a wonderful thing.

Historical meaning aside, for me, the significance of going seems to be lost if you're effectively standing at the back of a mile long line and need binoculars and a ladder just to be able to discern a beige and navy figure you assume is the President. Isn't this what God invented the TV for?

Would you rather watch Fourth of July Fireworks from your TV...or be down on the mall in person?

This is one of those events in your life that you have to be there in person.

I could have easily stayed home and watch the debates....but I went to one of those open houses people were having to watch the debates.....and Ohhhhhhhhhhh the good feelin gto be in a room with people who think like you.

I just think being with all those Obama supporters will be one of those feel good days we rarely now have in our life.

Absolutely! 4 million Obama supporters who feel the same way I do about this incredible moment in history. I wouldn't miss being there for the world!!

    QUESTION:

What is the difference between what Republican's snarkily refer to as a "government handout" and a "bailout"

    ANSWER:

Handout - goes to poor, unemployed or disabled people and it is only enough for one trip to the grocery story or to be spent at Wal-Mart in one trip.

Bailout - goes to billionaire CEO's or Wall Street Executives to run their companies back into the ground and is six or seven figures!

Both come from taxpayer money, but in the case of the bailout most taxpayers never see ANY benefit except for the CEO's to dole the money out to their workers as they see fit, and use it to try to kill off the Unions who represent those workers.

and, they aren't really referring to it as a 'bailout'... the MSM and the Democrats are.

In 1985, I was assigned to the Reserve Component Branch in St Louis, Mo. It was for veterans that were trying to get their good 20 years for retirement benefits. My annual training site was the Military District of Washington.
They called me up to help get ready for the second Reagan inauguration and I spent four weeks in DC. My assignment was to assist with the transportation involved in bringing in active army units to be available in case the demonstrations that had been planned got out of control. The weather forecast for inauguration day called for extremely cold weather and they were forced to move the swearing in ceremony to the what was then called The Capitol Center. The night before the swearing in we had to set up the center for the ceremony.
One of the big things that I remember about the Inauguration was the Vice President Inauguration Ball that was held at the DC convention center. The center had set up a coat check for all of the fur coats that they were expecting to be worn for the event. The convention center had hired additional personnel to assist with the coat check. When Bush I and Barbara made their entrance there were all of these fat cat republicans who wanted to try to make an impression on who they assumed would take over after Reagan left the White house. The Bushes did not stay long and when they left everyone at the ball wanted to leave also and try to make it to more events. The people at the coat check were doing the best they could to try to keep up with the people trying to retrieve their coats. At one point one of the men standing in the line decided to go over the table and retrieve what he thought was his coat and also his wife's floor length fur. After that there was a stampede over the table and everyone was grabbing whatever they could. The poor staff just had to stand back and watch these people grab what they thought were their coats and leave. After the stampede was over there were only a few fake fur coats and some very inexpensive topcoats left. The people who did not take part in the "Great Fur Theft" ended up with what was left. Most of the press had left following the bushes and the ones that were still there were called aside by the public affairs people and told not to report about the night. The next day I tried to find news about it, and it was obvious the press had buried the story.

I never did get my 20 years for retirement, because it was the Reagan administration that started kicking out open gays, and in 1986 I was put out of the reserves.

"This city is going to be crazy -- in a good way. But, it's going to be gridlocked for days. I can't wait."

Sometimes we vote with our feet, sometimes with the Ballot. I understand the {political Junkie} aspects of Political Bloggers (A great nation deserves the truth) and you guys really are all that.

It's nice that the expected showing for the Inauguration (volume) is exciting to you guys and it should be.

    What's my point?

Back when the non political lifers were trying to get Political Bloggers on board and to back us (we were chosing to lose days work, travel expense, and being tagged as Trrrorrrist supporters) for as much a massive protest (our feet) as we could get, there was no intrest in you guys even stepping out the door.

We wanted to make a difference in death by protesting the War and Torture and everything else Militarily ruining the country and we were rebuffed.

    Get out, enjoy the crowds!
