AMERICAblog: The First Dude "who participates in state business in person or by e-mail" won't testify in Troopergate

  • LunaStick · 1 year ago
Palin is proving to be even more like the Bush administration than McCain.

    Palin = Bush!

Also, the term First Dude is just plain dumb. Did they think they were being cool or something when they came up with it?
  • skeptic · 1 year ago
As a regular law abiding U.S. Citizen, if I were to get a subpoena to appear in an investigation, then I would do so. It is the law. Some how the Repubs have gotten the idea that they are above the law. This all courtesy of the Bush/Cheney. et. al. gang of criminals.

If we as a nation cannot enforce our laws then we might as well invite the "terrorist" in and let them run the show as we are no longer capable of running a country.
  • Sage24 · 1 year ago
Absolutely right. It seemed that the war criminals in the WH, and Rove, paved the way for republicans to thumb their noses at the American people, when subpoenaed. They act like they are above the law, and they are getting away with it.

The culture of corruption - now where have I heard that?
  • no · 1 year ago
what happened to that law about if you dont follow a subpoena you'd be in trouble??

i could swear that used to be the law or something
  • devlzadvocate · 1 year ago
    that applies to US.
  • devlzadvocate · 1 year ago
" . . . a natual successor to Lynne Cheney". LOLOLOL!!!! Love it. I keep picturing "the first dupe" in a Lynne Cheney wig.
  • shrrrr · 1 year ago
and pearls. Don't forget the pearls.
  • Sage24 · 1 year ago
Yes, you are right, she most certainly fits into that culture of corruption. In fact she has similarities to the present war criminals in the WH. Despite her macho talk of welcoming the investigation, it looks like Secretive Sarah has something to hide.
As for that husband of her, I think he will be injecting himself to the dealings in the VP's office, if God forbid, McCain is elected President.

As for the lies, it still keeps going on, nothing seems to stop this pathological liar, from telling some truth. Now people think her big talk about taking a pay cut in Alaska was, you guessed it, a LIE!

Just how does McCain plan to explain why Todd Palin does not have to answer a subpoena.??

So Palin/McCain, would they give this advice to everyone that is subpoenaed to testify or under investigation and that advice is to check whether the people in charge of the investigation are Democrats or Republicans, Catholic or Protestant, Redskins or Cowboy fans because obviously if someone in charge of the investigation is a Yankees fans and you are a Red Sox fan, then you have a clear case and you don't have to answer to any investigation or subpoena.
  • devlzadvocate · 1 year ago
I think it is very simple. They are making a plea that they are the poor, persecuted repubicans and they are so patriotic, public serving, and vulnerable and shouldn't have to be subject to such low tactics as a traditional investigation. What? Us do something wrong? When have we ever . . .?
  • boloboffin · 1 year ago
Wow. How does Palin think he can get away with this? He doesn't have to appear because he's decided the investigation is not legitimate? I can't even believe I'm reading this.
  • devlzadvocate · 1 year ago
    uh huh. Just say NO.
  • nokkonwud · 1 year ago
    Excuse me?

What the hell is this bull? He refuses to appear because he doesn't believe the Legislature's investigation is legitimate?

Since when do witnesses get to decide that? I wish just once the Dems would try to pull this stunt and then force the Repubs to explain just exactly how and why it is different THIS time.
  • BLOGGING BITCH! · 1 year ago
It IS as close as one can possibly get to "A jury of your peers".
  • caphillprof · 1 year ago
Perhaps the next time I get a jury notice, I'll just say my compliance is barred by executive privilege
  • devlzadvocate · 1 year ago
just heard on CNN AC360 that there is an Alaskan law that says a candidate doesn't have to testify in an ethics violation and repubics are taking that as extending to Todd, Alaska's First Dupe. If so, it goes to the Alaskan Senate for a vote in JANUARY.
  • BLOGGING BITCH! · 1 year ago
    Devl,

Maybe he's not really part of her mariage.....just like Cheney isn't part of the Executive Branch.
  • devlzadvocate · 1 year ago
that's a damn lie! Cheney sure as hell has been trying to execute people. So he sure as hell is part of SOME executive branch.
  • devlzadvocate · 1 year ago
    I mean Alaska's First Dope
  • BLOGGING BITCH! · 1 year ago
Isn't it OK to ask her if she'd resign as VP of The United States if she was found to have acted illegally in "Troopergate"?
  • devlzadvocate · 1 year ago
if she is VP, that investigation ship will never sail
  • Rob Mule · 1 year ago
Todd. In many ways, he's a natural successor to Lynne Cheney.

Oh God...Not another treacly series of patriotic kiddie books ruthlessly hawked on the teevee. If Todd wears a shawl it'll be just too spookie.
  • BLOGGING BITCH! · 1 year ago
Does Sarah feel the same way about DIVORCE as she does abortion?
  • devlzadvocate · 1 year ago
only if it happens to somebody else.
  • DavidinChelseaMA · 1 year ago
Troopergate is the least of this campaign's worries. They have themselves a deer-caught-in-the-headlights-styled airhead VP pick. Just scary as hell. She is completely unqualified AND THEY KNOW IT.

The bloom is truly off the rose with Palin. As a democratic commenter put it today on Hardball, people have "finally gotten the joke." They realize what a foolish pick this was by McCain and what it says about his lack of judgment. It was a political pick, not a governing one. So much for all his "country first" b.s. With McCain its "ELECTION FIRST, COUNTRY SECOND."
  • Deacon_Blues · 1 year ago
In less than two months, this petty little scandal created by this petty little politician will fall back into the obscurity that it so richly deserves. I'm sure the REPUBLICANS who initiated this investigation will clean their own house after all this is over, and the slimy little Rovian operatives who are running things scuttle back to Washington and under their rocks.

Todd and you know who in HS:

  • Makapuu · 1 year ago
Boy, it's a good thing that Sarah "Miss Piggy" Palen has nothing to hide. Otherwise, she might me accused of obstruction of justice.
  • MGJams · 1 year ago
Well I wonder why she isn't being held as a Traitor, we are in war time, right? she is a government official, right? She is attempting to subvert the Constitution during War time. In my judgement, she should be held in contempt and possibly as a traitor! Just like the President we have right now, a trator in many ways! We have lost most of the Bill of Rights, made extinct by this President, during War time! doesn't that make anyone think?
  • Coming Undone · 1 year ago
I think I am smarter than a fifth grader but maybe not because I really cannot understand how Todd Palin can refuse a subpoena on the basis that the investigation is not legitimate.
  • ron071 · 1 year ago
More Republican cover-ups from the Great State of Alaska. The Palins have already shown us how they would outdo the Cheneys. The best characteristic of Sarah Palin is that she and her Dude are liars through and through. Just imagine these two running lose in Blair House until McSame is declared unfit to serve. THIS IS A NIGHTMARE SCENARIO.
  • JetSetter · 1 year ago
“You wives must willingly obey your husbands in everything, just as the church obeys Christ.”92 Those two words “in everything” are rather broad, aren’t they? Obedience is not to be practiced only when you feel like it, or when you wholeheartedly agree with your husband, or when he is treating you with Christ-like love, but in everything! The Bible does not condition your subjection on his love, even as it did not condition his love on your subjection. You must answer to God for your own actions, and no excuse for disobeying His Word will be accepted."

    http://www.bible.org/page.php?page_id=1282

If McCain is eleced it is more than likely that he will not complete his term and we will in effect have elected Palin as President. If Palin is President and believes she must submit to her husband "in everything" then we will have elected Todd Palin as President of the United States.
  • Hannah · 1 year ago
No testify for Palin et al? No answer to journalist questions?

    Hey, no problem!

No votes for you... you FAILED your job interview.
  • RJAGIELSKI1 · 1 year ago
Well I hope McCain keeps this up, it will lose the election for him, among a whole list of other issues.. There are some 33 state employees tapped to testify, and only 13 were ordered to appear. To me that means about 20 are willing to testify without a problem. If I were the investigator I would take their testimony and along with the phone records, and numerous e-mails I would conclude wiht that and report the findings. The american voters deserve the right to know who it is that wants their vote. After all the lies she has already been caught on , and the fact they are keeping her away from the press, and the public you might think they have some things to hide. McCians team has got to be the most innefective bunch I have ever seen.
  • boloboffin · 1 year ago
Oops. A picture of Councilwoman Palin has surfaced. She's pretending to take notes on a prominently displayed John Bircher article on stopping a non-existent constitutional convention from happening.

    http://firedoglake.com/2008/09/18/is-sarah-pali...

And with the former AIP member Todd's reluctance to respect a legal subpoena now -- well, pieces are starting to come together, aren't they?
  • witch · 1 year ago
WOW, you would think people would be shocked by this womans audacity. To presume she has the right to hide and lie about the facts. I say arrest them all till we recieve full cooperation from them both. But then again, what can you expect from a self proclaimed " woman of moral values". Her daughter is a prime shining example of the morals Palin clings to so desperately. Palin is like the false profits in our biblical teachings.
MAYBE Mrs Palin you should try practicing what she preaches. Maybe the Alaskan government should remove her children due to the mounting evidence of NEGLECT! Oh Mrs Palin " YOUR CHICKENS ARE COMING HOME TO ROOST!!"
  • Yukio · 1 year ago
    i'm a little unclear...

what are the liability issues with a non-state-employee participating in legal discussions and decisions concerning the State of Alaska?

this blurring of employee vs. friend/spouse/lobbyist of employee throws me off.

i would never allow a friend or spouse of an employee to participate in discussions at the office - why is it OK to the people of Alaska that someone they did not elect has such a role in determining their laws and their future?

i am assuming that - since he's not an "employee" of the state - any rules involving influence peddling are not germane to him, yes?

we can only hope that Todd - a la Lynne - has a few soft porn gay novels under his belt somewhere...
  • shell · 1 year ago
What am I missing? Is it just because a political hearing is different than the judicial system? If I am subpoenaed to appear in court, and choose not to, is it no big deal? If a judge demands I answer questions and choose not to, can I escape jail? hahahaha

If it IS because it is "just" a political hearing, why SHOULD anyone testify/answer questions? In fact, if I am ever subpoenaed to testify in court, I think I will say "F off." I wonder how that will go over. Oh yeah, I'm one of the little people.
  • Wesinoregon · 1 year ago
I was wondering the same thing. But then I remembered. Don't tell anyone but they are above the law.
  • tas · 1 year ago
Todd also made a very telling slip about being "an Alaska family" and how "American families" do the same things his "Alaska family" does. He still supports Alaska seceding from the US.
  • dancinfool · 1 year ago
Perhaps he's refusing on the grounds that a husband cannot be forced to testify against his wife? Now that would be just swell. Geez... what a bunch of maroons.
  • The_Cardinal · 1 year ago
Question: if I register as a Republican, can I too ignore the rule of law? Ignore subpoenas? Do pretty much whatever I want?
Really....Is the GOP a political party or organized crime?
  • kemill · 1 year ago
Oh come on! when Hilary was running for President you all commented on whether Bill ‘at home’ was a good thing…vote for Hilary, vote for Bill. When she was a possible VP it was the same.

Now you’ve a complete political novice who sends 100’s of state business e-mails to her husband!

“oh Todd honey, do you think we should invade IRAQ? … hell yeah’
