What kind of headline is that? Is this supposed to be tongue in cheek Chris? Pretty lame I think.

Yeah, they hate americans so much there are about 20 thousand dead in their graveyards, all nicely tended to, row upon row.
I'm sorry, but one guy was forgotten and now the entire country hates Americans as a result?
How asinine.

They don't hate Americans, they hate the perfidy of Anglo Saxon Hegemony, or the "Albion perfidy" (The French have the ultimate passive agressive relationship with the Brits)
All I can write, is that the French has this hang up since Rollo took up residency in Normandy. Let it be. Besides, the French are still piss that Normans that took over England didn't do a better job keeping "Langue D'Oïl" as "Lingua Franca" in the British Isles.

What is lost over the 90 years since 1918 is the fact that France lost 1.4 million soldiers killed (1,400,000) during the 4 years called the Great War. Average that to 958 killed every day. Who is the last US soldier killed in VietNam?

pretty sure Chris' headline is snark... given the Repubs penchant for shitting on the French every chance they get this is a headline that will get their attention on Digg or one of the other services...
geeze guys, lighten up.

folks, please read the rest of the story. yes, it is sarcasm and doubtless aimed at those right-wing hate mongering scum. most of the rest of the world has always liked americans. it's george bush they hate.

Well I might agree with you about the rest of the world but not the French. They really don't like americans and they are rude. I had an experience there and before I met my husband he had a bad experience there. After that I would never go to France again. France is a lovely country but not some of the people.

I've been to France and had a lovely time. Guess what, there are rude people everywhere, like Palin rallies in Penn. So if I am from France and saw those rallies, I could equally say 'All Americans are racist and violent.' Right? Saw if on TV; must be true of ALL Americans. Right?

Sweety I am expressing my personal experience. It was what I went through. The first time I thought the person was having a bad day but not the second time. You are entitled to your opinion and am entitled to my. I am glad you had a nice time. I have enjoyed many vacations overseas and on occasions I even have lived overseas 3 or 4 yrs at a time. In general that was what I felt about the French. Like I said the country is lovely. And yes we in america have a lot of rotten people here.

OT: (I'm just going to ignore the part that says this story is somewhat dubious):
Kadaververwertungsanstalt From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Kadaververwertungsanstalten ("corpse utilization factories"), also sometimes called the "German Corpse-Rendering Works" or "Tallow Factory"[1] was one of the most notorious British anti-German propaganda efforts of World War I.
According to the story, the Kadaververwertungsanstalten was a special installation supposedly operated by the Germans in which, because fats were so scarce in Germany due to the British naval blockade, German battlefield corpses were rendered down for fat, which was then used to manufacture nitroglycerine, candles, lubricants, and even boot dubbing. It was supposedly operated behind the front lines by the DAVG-Deutsche Abfall-Verwertungs Geselschafft ("German Offal Utilization Company").
Piers Brendon has called it "the most appalling atrocity story" of World War I[2], while Phillip Knightley has called it "the most popular atrocity story of the war."[3]
Got it? WWI British propaganda. Generally if something sounds over the top, it usually is. That is what www.snopes.com provides such a valuable service.
Now for reality. The Europeans have NEVER forgotten the sacrifices of the Americans. ALL WWI (and WWII) cemeteries are fully maintained which the Europeans pay for with their own 'socialist (current popular put-down term)' taxes. Discounts are offered for travel and lodging for Vets of WWI and WWII who wish to visit the battlefields and cemeteries.
Was not Obama's victory about change - about stopping with the hate and working with the people of the world. Sheesh! What a foolish post to read first thing in the morning.

Some 11,000 soldiers died before 11am on the morning of armistice. Why would one particular name have made any difference?

We really need to teach more in our schools about the devastation WWI wrought on European civilization. Think of your town with every third adult male dead, crippled or, broken and sick. The Yanks arrived too late to share in more than a tiny fraction of the violence and slaughter that broke imperial Germany, but there were two million of them and they pitched in willingly. That was enough to tip the scales.

Candles.
That's how they got rid of the millions of bodies that clogged French soil. And no fucking American has the right to criticize them.
