It's a war zone out there.

My son says if I spent less time on the computer, I'd be able to cook him better dinners. He's 18, insert response here...
  • risa87 · 1 year ago
Buy the son a few cookbooks and let him have at it.
  • dogeatdogi · 1 year ago
My response was along that same train of thought, minus the sensitivity LOL
  • risa87 · 1 year ago
Good news, Shrub just safely landed. And I was being sensitive?? I prefer practical.

Compulsive alpha plus personalities sometimes live very long lives. Sometimes not. It isn't the blogging, it's the pressure. If they weren't on the computer, they'd be on SimCity or Second Life or out marching in the rain about an important cause. In the g.o.d. [good old days] extreme activists took spring break in Cuba to help bring in the sugar cane crop. There's always something. It's not the blogging, it's the crazed intensity.

People have been dying on the job for a long time. More like hazards of obsessive (and stressful) living.
  • Chris From Maine · 1 year ago
it might not seem like it, but blogging can be pretty stressful. it makes you focus on things like politics which tends to drive people crazy (for example.. the last 7 years).

its always a good idea to take a break for a while and rejuvenate.

It's not just obsessive blogging that is killing.

It's also obsessive walking in the streets with an iphone stuck in the head w/o watching for incoming traffic, obsessive playing WoW until you die, excessive sitting on the couch while eating pretzels... You get the point.

Anything obsessive/excessive is going to kill you.

Do what my sister did. She hung up a sign on her son's bedroom door. it said: "Checkout time is 18."
  • amsterdamize · 1 year ago
that story is such a stretch. You might as well believe the hoax scientific report that says that smoking kinda sorta cures cancer.
@Tomm: CNN would have put a question mark at the end of the headline :)

dogeatdogi, that's AMAZING: My fifteen-year-old said exactly the same thing. The eighteen-year-old rolls his eyes about putting his own laundry in the basket. "Why don't you get off the computer and do it yourself?" he sneered.

Now, the NYT needs to have a article on the good side of the Tubes of the Internets, with a soggy headline like, "New Hope for the Shut-in: Fun and Frolic in One's Own Dining Room."
