Another triumph in forsighted wisdom from the prophets of High Broderism:Bush Regains His Footing
    By David S. Broder
    Friday, February 16, 2007; Page A23

It may seem perverse to suggest that, at the very moment the House of Representatives is repudiating his policy in Iraq, President Bush is poised for a political comeback. But don't be astonished if that is the case.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
    Don't worry.

Bush focuses his Giant Sixth Grade Intellect to fixin' that problem and he came up with a Brilliant Plan.

still, it seems like the disapproval should be higher.

    i know i disapprove.

28% approve? I find it hard to believe that more than one in four people could approve of your idiot of a president.
  • Ksue · 1 year ago
When are the politicos going to get it? The American people, by and large, Don't Want War! They (we) really need to find a new framework to build our country on. This military-industrial thing isn't working too well, and it's leaving a very bitter taste in our mouths.

I pray today that the majority of voters in PA have seen through HIllary and know that she brings only more of the same -- NOT progressive movement ahead.

I thought we were going to see a surge in his approval ratings, or is that not supposed to happen until the fall?
  • allpeopleunite · 1 year ago
You say that this Bush presidency is a disaster, but what did the Democratic party do as the Official Opposition to counter-act his policies. Even most democrats voted for the War (before someone mentions it, yes St. Obama did vote against it).

I thought we were going to see a surge in his approval ratings, or is that not supposed to happen until the fall?

    ----

I think he's hoping for a posthumous surge now.

    Won't happen.

Historians will see an idiot who bankrupted the economy, destroyed the military, and sundered the country's traditional alliances all for a quixotic and meaningless Vanity War while the country's real enemies were free to plan new attacks.

Believe me, I was an independent before this clown got into office. He's the Worst President Ever.

WASHINGTON — A contaminated blood thinner from China has been found in drug supplies in 11 countries, and federal officials said Monday they had discovered a clear link between the contaminant and severe reactions now associated with 81 deaths in the United States.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/22/health/policy...
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
    Boy, Grandma, I don't know who's right.

“We don’t have a strong evidence to show that it is heparin or its contaminant that caused the problem,” said the official, Ning Chen, second secretary at the Chinese Embassy.

Mr. Chen said that illnesses associated with contaminated heparin had occurred only in the United States, which he said suggested that the problem arose in this country.

Of course, most of China's other clients are third world countries, so it's not like they would have to best follow-up to pinpoint these problems anyway. On the other hand, it's not like the Repubs haven't run the FDA into the ground.

Which is the biggest liar? So hard to tell.
  • TomJoad · 1 year ago
Unfortunatelt I believe there is a 28% dim bulb, immoral, moronic block of people in the US. Just walk around, listen to people. They aren't bad, they are dumb. Hopefully they don't vote.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
Took a long while before South America and India figured out that China was putting anti-freeze in children's cough syrup.

They're not ready to sell to countries with formal followup procedures.

Their poison only flies under the radar when it's dispensed to poor people in villages by traveling clinics.

Busboy is here. You want to give your daily "compassionate" snark at the fact that this morning's American death count in Iraq is 4041? Also a part of Bush's legacy. That's four more than yesterday. Four more human beings with families and friends--and futures cut short. That's 41 more Americans dead since Easter. Those aren't just numbers, Busboy, those are human lives cut short. Tell me again how you don't care.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
    Grandma

I am so upset by that heparin article, I sent it to John last night to post as a topic. I cannot ever remember a time in this country that we have been so poisoned. Our pets, our children, our lives all in the past 8 years under Bush. It is appalling and downright criminal. Right now, baby bottles leaching BHP are banned in most countries but not here.

It is criminal what more can I say.

And oil rose to over $118/bbl, back down to $117.36.

It's not just the investment banks that are running for cover:

On a personal note, my small bank, First Charter, was acquired by Fifth Third...considered changing my account to another bank, but they all seem to be in trouble these days.

    George McGovern:

Let me tell you what I would say to John McCain: neither of us is an expert on national defense. It's true that you went to one of the service academies but you were in the bottom of the class. It's true that you were a pilot in Vietnam, that you were shot down and spent most of the war in prison and we all sympathize with that and honor you for your courage. But you and I both had these battle experiences, you as a Navy fighter plane, I as an army bomber. I am not going to criticize your war record and your knowledge of national security but I don't want you criticizing mine either.

If I'd be allowed just one little dig at Senator McCain, since he gave me. I would say, 'John, you were shot down early in the war and spent most of the time in prison. I flew 35 combat missions with a 10-man crew and brought them home safely every time.'

It must be Bill Clinton's fault.

Or, is it that Historians are mad at their high taxes and want the Bush Tax Cuts to pass.

Or, maybe it's a cold, rational calculation: "lessee, gazillions of dollars in profits for my oil buddies, vs a three-percent drop in popularity... what do you think, Dick?"

The only thing I would quibble with is "as a Presidential candidate ..." Hillary may have even higher negatives. My point is that we need to be wary of the meme now being spread by gay journalist Matthew Drudge ( DrudgeReport.com ). He is pushing a Tribune article written by Clinton surrogate Patrick Healy. Billary knows she is going to lose big time so she is encouraging this meme. If there is anything we don't want, it's having that witch nagging President Obama at every turn. Let's not have Shillary weasel her way into office via the back door VP slot. http://www.iht.com/articles/2008/04/22/america/...

He doesn't care. He has stated repeatedly (and petulantly) that we the people are just too plain dumb to understand how he has made all the right decisions. "See...you know..heh..heh, you weren't privvy to all the infomatation I have been see" (in print Bush always talks like Edward G. Robinson...see?)

That's paraphrased but I got the message loud and clear. He's playing to the peanut gallery, in a gallery far, far, away, where they love him for his oratorial skills, decisiveness, and worship his leadership.

Nobody from New Orleans, no one black, arabic, french, poor, that enjoy breathing clean air, that currently live less than 50 feet above sea level, is a polar bear, or any other species, needs freash water, enjoys nature, etc is alive in this future he is playing to.

Just a bunch of rich, white, overweight old cronies in white shoes and golf shirts exist. They aren't all pleased, as it is damned hard to get a good caddy, or service.

    Is it over yet????????????

Oil was $20 a barrel when dumbya took over, now it's over $117 and the Oil companies are overjoyed that we have no options but to keep on paying up.

Don't pay any attention to the articles regarding why OPEC won't increase production...cause you see...demand = supply so no need to flood the market with more Oil.
The weak dollar and Dumbya are to blame for our lot in life.

You know...the Government in the USA has become a neurotic, dysfunctional family instead of a government. After 911, too many people wanted a "big daddy" and sure enough, Bush stepped up (so we all sat down). Became the absolute bully he always was, bellicose, stupid, arrogant, just take a look at that footage of him ordering around Blair at a meeting, with roll crumbs coming out of his mouth....like a cheap version of Tony Soprano.

But Congress, is supposed to fill the mother role. They were supposed to protect us from this nutjob they married. Instead, they were all afriad to do anything to displease him.

    Our country needs a psychiatrist.

"...and the disapproval sets a new high for any president since Franklin Roosevelt."

Does that mean FDR was similarly despised, or that FDR's Presidency was when the polling started? It is written unclearly.

  • Mike_H · 1 year ago
I'm more surprised that there are still 28% approving. The mega rich only represent, what, 2-5% of the population? And not all of them approve of Bush any more anyway! I guess there are still some stubborn folks who simply can't admit they were wrong to support Bush. Or evangelicals who hate gays and abortion so much that they don't care if the country is falling apart as long as Bush keeps talking against abortion and gay rights and stem cell research.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
We can win this election in a job as LONG as Democratic candidates aren't afraid to HIT McCain and bloody his nose with relevent facts. As long as Democratic candidates PLAY TO WIN - we WILL win. We can't soften our blows against Republicans... We have to fight and if their candidate falls walk away. Don't pick them back up. Unfortunately, to beat Karl Rove Republicans we have to play just as dirty and mean.

To think that millions voted for this intellectually challenged loser twice, is amazing. It goes to show how dumb the majority of Americans are.
I still remember the headlines in some foreign newspaper, the next day after
the 2004 elections, asking how so many million people can be so dumb.
We are now stuck with this good for nothing President, and it has cost us billions of dollars and over million deaths in Iraq.
    Heck of a job, George.

Never said I didn't care, Webster. I called you a "necromonger" because you are fixated on the death count; as if that is supposed to be the determining factor about going to war.
  • Webster · 1 year ago
No, Busboy, I am not "fixated on the death count; as if that is supposed to be the determining factor about going to war." I think it behooves us to keep in mind the very human cost that this unnecessary and unwinnable war is taking on the people of this nation. It's called "caring." When I post the numbers, most people here understand that it's a reminder of what a tragedy this Bush-created disaster is. Only someone without a heart and a conscience, like you, can be flippant in the face of what these numbers represent. Go and be similarly dismissive to the families of those killed in Iraq. To them, the one death they mourn is all the pain in the world.
