AMERICAblog: The McCains in default: Weren't paying taxes on one of their many houses -- the one on the beach in California

Wouldn't read too much into that. Sometimes it's cheaper to let the taxes ride for a few years if you have the money for the taxes invested in something with a greater rate of return than the penalty.

Oh please. HONEST Americans pay their taxes.

If the Democrats were smart, they'd make a commercial that shows all 7 or 8 of the McCain homes, so Ma & Pa America could see just how much McCain "feels their pain" as gas prices make food a luxury for them and health care a forgotten memory.

I tink a pic of McCain eating rats in his detention cage in North Korea would also be a best seller.

Really - The dems should do a "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" type video of this home in La Jolla. What an amazing place to visit - La Jolla. And to have a (likely multi-million-dollar) beach-front vacation home that you don't even visit enough to notice you haven't paid your property tax in over FOUR YEARS is just pathetic. Just think how that would go over in the "heartland."

I've been informed by Bushbites that my avatar is "homoerotic"; so I'll change it after the 24 hour waiting period. (hell, it's easier to buy a .357 magnum than to change your avatar)

I didn't say that was a bad thing.

"a variety of trusts and corporations"--you mean tax dodges, right?

Doesn't surprise me a bit. Like you said, the media would be all over Obama for the same default.

Now, now. Straight-talkin' St. John McCain already done tole us he ain't no good at economics. He's jus walkin the walk like he talked the talk.
BBites, I think it was Tireiron or someone else who sent me that pic years ago. What was your moniker before the ice age?

I looked on newsweek, the place that supposed to have broken the story expecting to see a big article on it. They buried the story. Of course, given the media's penchant for weekly Obama has a problem stories, if it was him everyone would be blasting it out and talking about it for weeks. Because it's McCain, they keep it quiet. Has anyone else noticed how every week the media has a new "obama has a problem with ....". This week it's Clintons and her PUMAs. I bet, given the spate of Obama hurting his brand by going centrist (like no other politician in a general ever does that), next week it will be Obama has a problem with the grassroots/netroots. I'm taking bets.

Obama does have a problem with the liberal netroots right now because of his simple statement on the FISA bill, which he hasn't even voted on yet. But I think it's a problem he wants to have, so it won't be reported on in the MSM. In their minds, it is good to piss off the libruls on the internets. Those people are always so mean and critical of the press, too. Who'd wannna be friends with any of them?

Oh, the media hates the netroots. the left side. Because the blogs are threatening their viewership. However, I am not upset over FISA because I do think something is up with that and Obama. Tomorrow KO is having a special comment on this. Obama is a constitutional scholar and knows something. I trust he knows what he is doing and the netroots have to sit back and see. If I am wrong and obama has caved just to cave, then we can make noise and go nuts on him. But, many times when I follow this sixth sense on things it turns out to be right. And I do have a 6th sense on this thing. We may not know anything until much later but, I am letting it play out first. diane -------------- Original message ----------------------

Every afternoon on MSNBC, and on their news programs in the morning, leading up to Matthews and Schuster, we have the Obama's Problems shows. I don't see that much of CNN, but when I do, they have the same soap operas going. I am watching it all less and less.

I have been watching less and less as well. I think alot of people have because of the way they ignore so much that is important and spin things to a continuing 'Obama has a problem...." I saw Vander Huvel from the Nation this morning and she pointed this out. How they never talk about McCain';s flip flops and hurting his brand as a Maverick but, always hammer Obama. I think along with needed progressive voice on the air, which there is far to little, we need to keep after them on their bias. I am thinking we need to organize the netroots into doing emails and such to push these cable people. Make some noise. diane

Want to see one reason why the media is doing what it's doing with Obama has a problem with.... Withdrawls is one reason. Check out this diary on Daily Kos and have a good laugh at the reason some of the reporting is so skewed: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/6/29/8588/77...

Back in 2004 I got countless emails forwarded to me by right-wing relatives about all the properties Teresa Heinz Kerry owns. At least she paid the taxes on all her houses. Why do the McCain's get a free pass. If Cindy McCain were poor or even middle class she would still be doing time for forging prescriptions. The audacity of these crooks is amazing. I guess we have the Clintons to thank for the complete lack of shame in modern politics.

She probably has all the tax bills sent to herself, where she throws them away because she doesn't understand them. She would be smarter to have them all sent to her lawyer or accountant, like other incredibly rich and stupid people do, because they will know what to do with the bills.

Why doesn't Grampa McSame and his $100 million dollar Sugar Momma love America enough to pay their property taxes?

This is just one of those stories for all those people out in swing states who Clinton says won't be able to relate to Obama. Those people in swing states who can't fill their gas tanks will be able to relate to Mr. Money Bags McGoo who can't keep up with all his houses, and refuses to pay taxes on them. Most people can't afford one mortgage.
Of course they knew the taxes weren't paid! People with 100's of millions have people that work for them that handle all this stuff. As the Queen of Mean said, " Taxes are for little people."

I have taken some wisdom form a movie: "Three things are important to have in life: A good doctor, a forgiving preist, and a good CPA." Looks like McCain forgot the third part of that. I have the last two. And at this point WAY TO MANY FUCKING DOCTORS!

Only the little people pay taxes

Just plain inexcusable. But I'd have to blame the bank, not the McCain's. By the way, $6,000 or $7,000 for four years for property taxes on an ocean front condo? Even with a homestead credit that's just a little more than what my taxes are per year on our modest MN house. Are California R/E taxes that low?

This inquiring mind wants to know: Isn't this the same pair who are reported to be a hundred grand behind on their credit cards? What's the budget payment on that much? What investments do they have that would give them a return greater than the interest? How many payday loans do you need to cover the payments?

Conservative Republicans never pay taxes, "taxes are for the little people". And justice is reserved for those who can hire a well connected lawyer.
