AMERICAblog: The pundits, of course, rise to defend their friend, John McCain

  • Ben Dover · 1 year ago
The ONLY thing McSame is in love with is Cougar McTarts access to over $100 million dollars, her seven or eight homes and her private jet.

    Anything else, not so much.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
    Clark is right.

McCain couldn't run a pay toilet.
  • Soundboy_jeff_meanie · 1 year ago
I'm really starting to think this is all about revenge on the American public that hated the Vietnam war.

he holds deep grudges... and his temper is very well known.

the word lunatic comes to mind.
  • Rab · 1 year ago
The more you find out about McCrazy the more he mirrors the shrub. That could be the reason he didn't get pissed when they went after his family in 2000, McCrazy probably thought, shit, why didn't I think of that?
  • Coming Undone · 1 year ago
So the traditional media and the pundits didn't really know him in 2000, is that why they let Bush shit over all him, or is it that they can only know and cover for one psycho at a time.
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
We have 2 candidates who can barely wipe their asses clean in the men's room. It's going to be a "shitty" next 4 years.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
Sorry you feel that way about the candidates. I feel that McCain is loathsome, but even with Obama's recent declaration about his WRONG choice to vote for FISA, I still think he is far better than anything or anyone the Republican's can offer up.

Who will you be voting for come November? Do you know as yet?
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
I may not be voting; but, I see you sucking up to a potentionally rabid candidate who may really surprise you on your most important issue. Most blacks despise RvW.
  • Soundboy_jeff_meanie · 1 year ago
I love it when white guys make generalizations about black people.

did you use some of dr. dobson's data to come to that conclusion?

egad, what a completely moronic thing to say.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
    Soundboy,
I've missed you recently. Glad to run into you today!
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
All of the black people that I know, and their number is not legion, would never even consider abortion as an option. Many are raising their own grandchildren and doing a pretty good job with them.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
Are you actually suggesting that Obama would overturn Roe? LOLOLOLOL! Now THAT is funny!

Not on your life, a Democratic candidate/nominee would never do such a thing, however McCain has already declared he wants it overturned.

So you are NOT voting in November? That doesn't seem like you, or at least the you I have met so far.
    .
  • Coming Undone · 1 year ago
Where can I find those statistics that most blacks despise Roe V. Wade?
  • Soundboy_jeff_meanie · 1 year ago
    busboy's probably voting for nader.
  • Õ¿Õ · 1 year ago
He's weighing either McShrub or Bob Barr. Knnowing him, he'll get in there and accidently vote for the communist party.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
I really did LOL at that comment. : ) Funny!
  • Eric on the Beach · 1 year ago
The media masturbation (sorry for the imagery) of McCain has to stop. The stupidity, it burns! (h/t Atrios)
  • rja4429 · 1 year ago
Did I read that the McNutbag campaign can't "insult the intelligence of the traditional media," but is "insulting the intelligence of the American people"? If there were any "intelligence" amongst the mainstream media and all too many Americans, this guy wouldn't be a candidate for the presidency.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
Whereas I loathe John McCain and all that he represents, I just don't think attacking him on his military record is advantageous for us. He has PLENTY of policy issues that are worthy of hearty attacks and that can get the publics attention while also focusing on his hypocrisy; but his military record? Come on folks, I agree that just because he was tortured doesn't necessarily equate with being worthy of running for President, but let's make the fight about his policies and not his torture.

Perhaps I am just a silly idealist, but just because someone else attacks you in one way, doesn't mean that you should follow suit. Especially if Obama wants to continue with his theme of a new kind of politics.
  • Ben Dover · 1 year ago
McSame is no "war hero". A War Hero is, for example, someone who gave their life to save their squad or battalion. THAT is a war hero.

McSame was fifth from the bottom of his class, lost some five aircraft, was involved in the tragedy aboard the Forrestal, and then was shot down over Hanoi. I fail to see the "heroism" in that.

We had to re-fight WW II every four years until we begun having to re-fight Viet Nam until we have to begin re-fighting the Gulf War until we begin re-fighting the Bush Wars of Aggression until we begin re-fighting the wars that McSame will start.

    DOES THIS SHIT EVER END?

For real leadership into the future we need Obama, NOW.
  • Nigel Elliott · 1 year ago
    OUCH!

Lt General Robert Gard agrees with General Wes Clark and slams Captain John McCain.

  • Busboy · 1 year ago
Obama's support of FISA has blown the "new kind of politics" argument, Polly. You've got a "loser" who isn't even inaugurated yet.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
I would wait, if I were you, before you begin calling anyone a "loser".

    .
  • Eric on the Beach · 1 year ago
Polly: You are being an idealist. Most people in this country respond to grunts. Policy is way too big. We need to hit him on things that will stick. Unfortunately, the only that seems to stick with voters is when you tie McSame to McW. So I don't think this military thing will stick either, but I think it is fair game, and should be at least addressed and talked about. I might dissuade 8 more people from voting for McSame.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
Perhaps you are right, but I still say that McCain has more than enough crap to call him on besides the military side. However, IF McCain continues to use Day and other swiftboaters in his campaign, than I say ANYTHING GOES.
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
Obama and McCain ought to flip a coin and see who should run as vp. Duh and double duh.......
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
I've had it with the stupid American mentality, the ignorant media, and now Americablog is beating this bullshit to death. Can it, will you? If the American public thinks an incompetent pilot who got shot down is "better on terrorism" and a "war hero" just because he says so, then we're just screwed again. And you're not going to change the media, either.

There has to be something far more pressing to talk about. Like how this country is in a decline it will never recover from. And how global warming will just finish everyone off (sooner than we think). Sorry, but facts are facts and you can ignore the truth, but it won't make things any better.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
    Wow older, tough day today?
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
Personally, an easy day. But the bad news just keeps coming. Even my 17 year old son is smarter than the average American. He knows his future is limited. And I have a great-grandson being born in Sept. to my granddaughter who probably has an even more limited future. For myself, the last few years of my life probably won't pass fast enough to wade through all the bullshit out there.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
Yikes, I am so sorry to hear this, but as dreary as it sometimes seems, I really do think that this too will pass. Give it some time and a Democratic Presidency with a Democratic majority in House and Senate, it may take a little time, but the worst of it can be turned around.

Your great grandson and grand daughter have plenty to look forward to in the next decade or so, it will just take some work from all of us.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
Thanks for the kinds words, Polly...I'm just really, really pissed off at Dems today, when I found out they are giving Bush/Cheney everything they want. It doesn't bode well, if you ask me. I'm starting to think more independently because I'm tired of war, tired of warhawks, and tired of a Vichy party.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
I hear you loud and clear! In fact, I left the Democratic party this last year when they voted on Torture and FISA and was sickened by their lack of cojones, but I also do think that some within the party do have the strength of character to pull this nation up by our collective boot straps.

Sometimes we just need to vent and then sit back and watch. Frankly, I think we will be surprised by what we see this next year and by that I mean in the best possible manner.

Let's watch, hope and see what happens. My bets are on us, the citizens of this great land.
  • Õ¿Õ · 1 year ago
Terry Gross on Fresh Air is interviewing Sy Hersch right now on NPR.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
Don't worry, GG, no one will pay attention--I've been posting that interview and his article all day. BTW, does anyone know what happened to all the old posters, like Grant in Houston? I worry about him, his health was not the best. We may not have ugly trolls anymore, but we don't have a lot of the old posters, either...
  • Õ¿Õ · 1 year ago
I've thought about him alot and tireiron chef. Karol still posts occasionally. I don't blame her for being burned out what she went through with Uncle Fester Lurks. I was at another blog and UFL was trashing me up one side and down the other and I thought we were friends. Trashing me because I listen to Coast and I'm into container gardening, of all things.
  • Õ¿Õ · 1 year ago
It was really odd lurking there and he's just trashing me. I was like, heh. Kinda funny.
  • Ricky · 1 year ago
You should look in on the unrulymob site. That's where tireironchef, karol, garysf, gregorylyons, jennifer, greenlib and some of your other friends hang out. Watch out for sadbuttrue though. He gets a bug up his ass as big as an elephant sometimes. Prissy old diva, that one is.
  • BorninUSA · 1 year ago
I have run into Grant on White Noise Insanity with Kay from Maine. He may post other places also but don't know.
  • nuneutralobserver2008 · 1 year ago
"Obama's support of FISA has blown the "new kind of politics" argument, Polly. You've got a "loser" who isn't even inaugurated yet"

Exactly! And don't forget the Obama swore he would take public money then back out on this promise.

And when he ran for State Senator in Illinois, he SUED to disqualify his Democratic opponents in the primary. Obama may claim to reject "politics-as-usual" but he is the ultimate politician. Super-slick. Super-slimy.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
Of course he didn't "promise" to take public money.

He said he'd see if he could make an agreement with McCain.

When McCain made it obvious that he was going to merge his funding in with the RNC and depend on the 527s, it became moot.
  • frootloop47 · 1 year ago
Heard a different slant on OBAMA supporting the FISA on Obermann last night. Seems the wording in FISA protects the adminstration, telecoms...people involved, from Civil Suits.....NOT CRIMINAL prosecution.
Did our boy OBAMA, being a lawyer, pick up on that?
  • Deadalus · 1 year ago
Here's a real insult: Ambinder is a fat fuck who is pissed at Obama for beating his girl Hillary and proving him wrong.
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
O&W, look after yourself. You can't help anyone out of the ditch if you're stuck in the ditch. We have 2 losers running for president. Everyone's on their own to plow their way thru political bullshit for the next 5 years.
  • Õ¿Õ · 1 year ago
That's a homoerotic avatar you have.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
    Hey Joe:

Can you ask John to start zapping the trolls.

This is an election year and we don't need them around.
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
    BB, aren't you troll #1?
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
I wasn't directing that at you, but if you're volunteering, so be it.

Why don't you go to Redstate and play with the Wingnuts?
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
    Busboy,
Bush Bites has been coming here far longer than you. If you don't like what he has to say, than I suggest you read other comments but I have found him to be informative and helpful.
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
Don't fuck with me, GG. I tried to change it and disqus won't let me.....

You know what all those oil men do out there on those oil rigs...
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
    Busboy,

Sometimes DISQUS takes a day or so until your avatar change shows up on screen. If you have tried to put in a new pix, wait 24 hours and see what shows up at that time.
  • Õ¿Õ · 1 year ago
I was just at the grocery store and I heard two different people bitching about the price of everything. "They're robbing us." And, "Ridiculous, let's go." The mood is getting ugly out there, folks.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
I think gas prices will keep making people edgy too.

A lot of people who don't have much of anything are really into their cars or trucks.

If those become unaffordable, it should get interesting.
  • Õ¿Õ · 1 year ago
Imagine these people, 27%, who can no longer afford to drive and who see the more affluent tooling along. I still have a margin but it's getting there for me...
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
Yeah, I don't think most people yet realize what a social equalizer cars have become.

    But they will.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
I've started buying in bulk where the weight or volume is cheaper. Lasts far longer, of course, and it's put into plastic containers, sometimes stored in the fridge if it has a fragile life. And yes, people are buying less, I've noticed, and more sale stuff.
  • Õ¿Õ · 1 year ago
I've bought enough dry goods to last me for at least five years--no kidding. And I did it before the price went up. Getting edgy out there, for sure.

We need to come together as a people in our different communities and condense and shrink instead of being spread out. I think that can happen. I hope it can.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
Every Sunday I have 2 couples over for dinner which I cook. We eat, drink, sit around, play cards, smoke--have a good time with one another. Didn't do it yesterday because I was still tired from my biopsy. And we pass food around, too. Got an extra? Need this? We swap and trade...
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
I hope you're OK after your biopsy. I will say a couple of quiet prayers just in case.
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
B_B, everyone knows you're a wingnut in disguise. Just come out from behind the curtain.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
Nah, your boy Bush cured my Repub tendencies.

Will never vote Repub again because of him.
  • vkobaya · 1 year ago
I really didn't love America until I was deprived of her company.

Essentially, an admission that he joined the military to pad his resume to further his political ambitions.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
True, but he could also have been talking about the women, cocksman that he imagined himself to be...
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
    There's a mental picture I didn't need.......
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
GG, everyone knows you eat on $10 a week. What were you doing in the grocery?

Well, on second thought, that might be something I don't need to know...
  • Õ¿Õ · 1 year ago
Just getting some more cans of VanCamps Pork&Beans. Quarter a can. They're great beans. And some of those red wennies black folks like. Grew up eating those things. You know the ones? With the really red color? It's kinda a high end grocery store but they sell them there because it's mixed black and white people here. I love it. And they employ retarded people to sack groceries.

I now have a whole new respect for Gen. Clark.
  • BorninUSA · 1 year ago
While we are wondering about some of the "old" Americabloggers, what happened to Chris from Main, Karol in the Classroom, Grant in Houston, and so many others? Why aren't they posting on America any more. I think the switch in format killed it for a lot of bloggers. We used to have some real interesting discussions. No more. If you note on C&L when there is an especially good thread going there might be hundreds of posts. You don't see that anymore on America. Disqus sucks.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
    DITTO that!
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
    It's not just disquis.

Some of the old timers started fighting with each other quite a bit, then started fighting with John.

It's too bad, it was an interesting group.

EdnSted, I miss him. It's their choice to come back I I sense they're lurking. There are alot of new posters we're getting to know. I like the less trolls and I had an internet stalker on the old format. I sense he's still there but he can't harass me anymore with disqcuss.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
I don't think this is what John promised us as AmericaBlog 2, or if it is why did THIS cost us $20,000?

HIs military service itself is not the only question, but also the nature of it. He flew five mission and then spent the war being tortured and abused at the Hanoi HIlton. That's a strange piece of a resume´to cling to as a qualification for the presidency-more than five years of painful mostly solitary confinement, after which he ditched his own painfully confined wife for a trophy one.

The second concern about his military career surrounds the events on the USS Forrestal and the disastrous flight deck explosion that came close to destroying the ship. McCain was transferred off less than a week earlier after he "volunteered" to go to a squadron based on another carrier. Left hanging behind him was the initial suspicion that he triggered the explosions and fire himself when he "wet started" his aircraft on a flight full or armed and arming aircraft. The emergency only procedure produces an effect similar to a flame thrower behind the aircraft.
