AMERICAblog: "The sky is falling on House Republicans and there is no sign of it letting up."

I call on the Republican Party to disband itself, immediately.
  • michaelt · 1 year ago
actually, the republicans have a great opportunity to become an honest party that actually works for the majority of america and not just the super wealthy. seriously, when you've tried all the corrupt criminal stuff, what do you have left?

It's easy enough to start the battle against McCain, we stop talking about that poor Clinton woman and start talking about Obama. Will he take Indiana in November? If think that Senator Bayh will come around if the chatter surrounding HC is left to die away. Will Obama sweep Florida? He can, unless the DNC gets in the way . . . again.
As long as we're talking about HC, she's got publicity. It's easy enough to show her to the egress, pay her no attention whatsoever. Poor thing.

This Clinton thing is a nightmare. I am sending my money to dem candidates for this fall's election. We need to have both Congress and the Senate as Democratic with majorities that don't allow the President (regardless of which party) any option in pushing forward a progressive agenda. An agenda that puts American citizens first and restores jobs, opportunity and a stable economy. Then there is no veto horseshit, no neocon crap and no rush to war or we simply impeach their asses.

I find it interesting that Karl Rove is described as one of the most if not the most brilliant political strategists ever.

Since when did lying, deceit and corrupt manipulation become brilliant strategies?
  • lynchie · 1 year ago
The GOP cherishes those traits because they recognize them as important. Honesty, ethics and a personal code of conduct are not characteristics of a good Republican
  • BarrieT · 1 year ago
    Since they worked :-(
  • Bubbles · 1 year ago
Actually, those are more like tactics and less like strategy. Yeah, hes a great tactician. A good strategy would have been sound policy. Then you don't need good tactics.
  • blackwolf · 1 year ago
That's the Sh*t that the Republicans have bee shoveling for years. Karl Rove is an idiot that plays on the fears of the hard-working folks of Pennsylvania and West Virginia. They're nervous. You can feel it in the air, on the streets, and in media. I've got a Republican I slam every day with the latest developments. He's suckin' wind---he's got no answer these days.

Since when is an EIGHT POINT margin of victory a "narrow" win as the article states?

EIGHT POINTS! In an R+10 district!

Their sky isn't falling - their world is imploding - people are FINALLY seeing the farce that is Republican governance.

What happened last night in MS as well as recent elections in IL and LA prove that Cokie, Tim, Katie, George and the rest of the talking heads don't know squat about what is going on out here.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
It was interesting to hear Jim Nussle (now WH budget director) on CSPAN this morning demagoging for the Rethugs and the criminal traitor in the WH...trying to blame Dems for "earmarks" on the various bills that Bush will veto, including the farm and supplemental war bills.

These rogues will continue their old tactics--this country needs to get rid of them completely.

    OT

Dennis Quaid just took on Baxter, the Supreme Court and the FDA. Good for him. He is pleading with Congress to override a possible Supreme Court decision which would give drug companies total immunity from drug errors (more complex but more or less accurate.)

Not only are the Republicans dropping like flies but their lobbyists are coming under fire.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
I think I just heard that Leon Panetta, B. Clinton's former chief of staff, endorsed Obama. Meanwhile,

I'm still waiting for the "greatest speech ever made" that Terry McAuliffe promised Clinton would make.

Am I naive? Not really, I just want to know what kind of drugs the Clinton campaign is on, because the sky is falling on them, too.

    John Boner...what a waste of overly-tanned skin.

Now. We need some dem wins in the Senate...
Please help Rick Noriega defeat John Cornyn of Texas!

The GOP/Righties are still doing fine.

I mean, where are the lynch mobs?

Perhaps America still doesn't get it.

    ;)
  • lynchie · 1 year ago
nikto: that my friend is a slur on all lynch's. but you are right, where is the outrage. I think it may be in a small peanut butter jar buried under a ranch in Crawford, Texas

    =============================================================
Asking the GOP to be an honest party is like asking a canary to roar like a lion.

    Nah. Gonna'. Happen.

Not to pee in the punchbowl, but Travis Childers (D) "narrow" victory really makes him Travis Childers (D but votes R). It's a little too early to break out the balloons and party hats.
  • Joshau Norton · 1 year ago
"Karl Rove is described as one of the most if not the most brilliant political strategists ever"

Geez. Hyperbole anyone? The old time political bosses make Rove look like Little Miss Muffet. Boss Tweed and Roscoe Conkling would have had him for breakfast. The only thing the Repiggies are good at is making mediocrity sound better than it really is.
  • TampaZeke · 1 year ago
Since when did a 6 to 8 point win become "narrow" victory?

As a native Mississippian who was born and raised in this district I can second Joshau Norton's reservations. Childers will be a Democratic Representative in exactly the same way that "Democratic" Mississippi Representative Gene Taylor is a Democratic Representative. We ALL know how Democratic Taylor is.

The Dixiecratic Party is alive and well in Mississippi and across the South (think Heath Shuler). As happy as I am about this HUGE victory for the Democrats and for Mississippi, I look forward to the day that we are able to elect REAL Democrats in these parts of the country.

This is good news. I was also delighted when I read the post yesterday after John/Joe's book party with Harry Reid. We have a good chance to take the majority in the senate as well. Good news, and I needed it. Thanks John/Joe.

"The third straight House special election loss in three conservative districts this year..."

That's factually incorrect. I've seen this error repeated in media coverage of the wonderful Democratic victory in MS-01 but it's NOT the "third straight House special election loss in three conservative districts this year."

On May 3, 2008, Republican Steve Scalise defeated Democrat Gilda Reed in a landslide (75.13% to 22.5%) in a special election for the LA-01 seat vacated by Bobby Jindal, who is now Louisiana's governor. That seat has been in GOP hands since Bob Livingston's election in 1977.

You might remember Livingston as the House Speaker-elect who was forced to resign after Larry Flynt found four women who alleged they had engaged in extra-marital affairs with Livingston. Livingston was replaced by David Vitter, who later vacated the seat to take John Breaux's Senate seat. Larry Flynt exposed David Vitter as someone who allegeded engaged in adultery with multiple partners provided by the DC Madam's escort service while he was a member of the House.

Bobby Jindal was elected to the LA-01 seat following Vitter's election to the Senate. Jindal vacated the seat in January 2008 when he was sworn in as governor of Louisiana. Steve Scalise is now my representative, unfortunately.

We did take the LA-06 seat away from the GOP on May 3, the same day we failed in our attempt to take LA-01. LA-02 is currently held by Bill Jefferson, who has serious problems, but that seat is 100% safe for Democrats.

    Give to the DCCC.

This year, we crush the Repubs' balls and feed them to the cat.
  • ivyfree · 1 year ago
Yeah, it's looking good. It didn't look bad for Gore, and he didn't take it. It looked good for Kerry, and he didn't take it. It's looking good for Obama, and maybe third time's the charm. Yeah, I'm sending money to Democratic candidates, and I think it looks good. But I don't underestimate the ability of conservobots to ignore reality, and the ability of the Dems to cave in.

Once the votes are counted- if they are, which seems problematic at times- I may be able to party.

Thank you Joe for an article I actually found hopeful and uplifting - a nice break from the anti-Hillary eviscetron, who shall remain unnamed.

Want to help screw the GOP but live in an already-blue district? Well, here's how you can help:

    Go to www.teamtudor.org.

Read all about Doug Tudor, retired Navy Master Chief and former Flagwriter to CENTCOM Commanders-in-Chief Gens. Franks & Abizaid and Adm. Fallon.

Think about Doug's Republican incumbent opponent, Adam Putnam, third-ranking House Republican, whose career voting record (came in with Bu$h) is 98.4% in lockstep with the whims of the Worst President Ever.

Then click on the CONTRIBUTE NOW button, which takes you to http://www.teamtudor.org/contribute.asp.

Give what you can. Adam Putnam has a million dollars to spend to fend off our assault on his Bu$h-rubberstamping sense of entitlement and prerogative. He's made the office not one for the PEOPLE, but for his PARTY.

Won't you help us send him home? Washington, D.C. needs Doug Tudor, a voice of change for peace, prosperity and people.

We need your help. And if you're into coming to Florida to help with the campaign, please let me know. No pay, long hours, hot, hot heat and an opportunity to make a huge difference. What could rock harder? You might even find time to go to the beach or avoid Disney World.

They know it's coming. It's the swing of the pendulum. The country is tired of the same BS the Repbulicans have been shoveling for the last 8 years. In fact, the Re-pubs stand to lost a lot more seats in Congress. This is power baby! We can get things done in this country now. That "rainbow" that's about to descend on this country looks mighty fine to me.
