    Someone should ask this question:

Republicans, for the most part, had control of the House and Senate from 1994 to 2006.
Republicans had the presidency from 2000 to 2008.
The Supreme Court has been stacked 7 conservative appointees to 2 liberal appointees for much longer.

Nothing of substance has been done re: abortion in this time period.

So, given this, why should any voter believe that the Republican "pro-life" talk is anything other than lip service?

Exactamundo! It's all about getting white trash fundy Baptists to come out on election day. Same as with the issue of gay marriage. But the fundies are too fucking stupid to see what has been going on. Good. I guess. I wish to hell they would form a third party.

true that the plutocrats have shamelessly exploited the theocrats for the most part. but don't minimize the fact that, in the process, they have come perilously close to actually reversing Roe v. Wade.
  • Hurrycane · 1 year ago
The Supreme Court is a heartbeat away from overturning Roe v. Wade.

Alaska is not alone. They charge in Colorado for your rape kit and exam. If you argree to prosecute, you can apply for victims compensation funds to help cover the cost. If you don't prosecute and many women do not. You are on your own. It is very sad, but the way it is in many states.
  • Hurrycane · 1 year ago
I am not questioning your honesty here, but I would like to see a citation for this, if you have one.
  • Rossdhu16 · 1 year ago
Do you want me to dig up the bill for my rape kit? I sure can. In 1992 I became the first woman to have her husband prosecuted for Marital Sexual Assault in Colorado. I also succeeded in a Civil Suit. Had I lived in Maryland I would have been up a creek. They refuse to acknowledge Marital Rape.

Years later I went to school and received a degree in Sociology and Criminal Justice. I became a Victim Advocate. Trust me, victims of s/a have to pay for their rape kits in Colorado. If they agree to prosecute, and only if, Victims Compensation will pay for  the exam. If you decided you just can't go through the prosecution and wish to drop charges, you have to pay Victims compensation back. You know I always suspicioned that is was a misogynistic way to make sure women don't false report.

Let me know and I will scan the bill.
Thanks for taking the time to ask me.

    Christine

Brokaw will ask tough question to Obama but fail to ask anything difficult for McCain. he wouldn't want to upset the maverick.
  • Cpeterka · 1 year ago
    OK, a bit off topic,
But does anyone see her getting up off the couch if John McCain were to swallow a pretzel and start to choke?

I just don't see her doing anything for him if they were to get elected.

Is it possible to rethink the use of the phrase "carrying [insert-man]'s baby" to describe pregnancies? Especially when referring to a pregnancy resulting from rape, I think it's a little weird to suggest that the man has some sort of ownership over the fetus that the woman does not. Just a thought...
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
In patriarchy, the fetus, the woman, and the woman's uterus are ALL "property" of the man.

There's a place in hell for Republicans....they have totally blasphemed the gospel of Jesus Christ.
  • martha · 1 year ago
Why don't the Catholic bishops know this? Several are out this week demonizing the dems.
  • sukabi1 · 1 year ago
it's likely because they are in the business of doing the "church's work" -- bringing in the money -- instead of doing God's work -- caring for the flock.
  • SarainKC · 1 year ago
These would be the same Bishops that hid sexual pedophiles in the church for decades and lied about their knowledge of crimes commited by these predators against children? In any other environment, these enablers would be in prison for conspiracy to obstruct justice. Who gives a crap what these morally bankrupt men think.

Obama accuses McCain of smear campaign

Then he poked fun at Palin's folksy way of speaking by saying: "We're not going to let John McCain distract us. We're not going to let him hoodwink ya, and bamboozle ya, we're not going to let him run the okie doke on ya."

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20081005/pl_nm/us_us...

    There must be video somewhere.
  • ChicagoKid · 1 year ago
It's not a ""folksy" way of speaking. It's a fake "folksy" way of speaking to appeal to the idiots who want have a plain-label beer/aka "Joe Six-Pack" with the "hockey mom." Her "folksiness" is as fake as our current president's is.

Obama worked on the streets to help poor people find work, while McCain was wearing $500 shoes and flying on his wife's forty million dollar jet. He has the right to speak the language of the people he's represented/representing. Sarah put a tanning bed in the governor's mansion.

Obama plays basketball. Sarah shoots animals from a helicopter. John McCain fishes at his private, stocked, man-made lake on his AZ ranch.

Obama is married to his first wife. McCain left his disabled wife after cheating on her. Sarah Palin had sex with the "first Dude's" business partner.

So when Obama "keeps it real," it's because he has walked the walk. When Sarah says hockey mom and Joe six-pack, she's trying get the Hooter's/meth vote.

Obama got into Harvard because he's brilliant. Joe McCain barely graduated. Sarah went to Guys & Gals university.
  • Fireblazes(cheetohsandcatfood) · 1 year ago
Well yeah, but I still want to see a video of Obama mocking Palin.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
God, how I love this man! (In high school terms, the new, very cool, star basketball player can get away with mocking the alpha mean girl in the cafeteria.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
What's also so effin brilliant about this man, rhetorically, is that he's referring only to the Maverick, not the MILF, here. Not mentioning her is an effective bit of speechifyin'.
  • Coming Undone · 1 year ago
Most people or should I say most literate people especially people that give speeches would research the quote for its context, you would not want to quote someone just to find out that it was originally said at a KKK rally.

How could she not even get the quote right. Madeline Albright just like all women should be pissed.

So is Sarah saying that the women that don't vote for her will go to hell? Or is she just going to blame Madeline Albright.
  • ChicagoKid · 1 year ago
A rally of women who have been raped should have a protest against the rape-loving Palin.

    Why is Sarah pro-rape!?!

When her daughter Bristol was raped by Levi, did she think it was okay?

Does she want the poor women who get raped to put the kit on lay-away so they can buy it a few months after they save up enough money?

Let me see, Sarah argued for the bars in Alaska to stay open to 5am, but was against paying for rape kits!?!?
  • SarainKC · 1 year ago
Forget rape victims, anyone who believes our tax dollars should include forensic tools used to prosecute crimes against us should protest this sub-human repugnant drone. This is an assault on justice for crime victims. This is just another example of the Repugnant philosophy. Justice for those who can afford it, similar to healthcare without the middleman.
  • KerrynowCampau · 1 year ago
    Test
  • martha · 1 year ago
Is there other crimes, - murder, robbery, kidnapping, car jacking - where they charge the victim to collect evidence? This is mind boggling.
  • sukabi1 · 1 year ago
I think the answer to that is NO. The only thing folks have to pay for is the "clean up" of the forensic gathering process and the "mess" of the crime... any cost for gathering evidence is paid for by the state.
  • Coming Undone · 1 year ago
Is Sarah's mother and father still living because she has some really f*cked up views towards women and she's passing them on to her children and she would love to pass them on to all of us, she is like a disease.
  • Hurrycane · 1 year ago
Yes, I believe her parents are still living. I think they were even on stage with her after the debate. Unless those were Todd's parents...
  • nsr · 1 year ago
Palin's explanation for screwing up the Couric interviews: Katie fouled up by asking her the wrong questions. Seriously. And Sarah was too "annoyed" to respond like someone with half a brain. She says she was prevented from communicating who she really is, but I'd say she did a great job of that.
  • Steve_in_CNJ · 1 year ago
what i understood was that Palin was annoyed she didn't get a chance to blast obama, as in the Hannity interview where hannity handed her the attack lines. she doesn't seem to know what in interview is for.
  • Lyrebird · 1 year ago
What I *don't* understand is how the AK governor thinks she's going to get to pick or make up her own questions in dealing with, say, China. Saudi Arabia. The people of New Orleans.

She's applying for a job where ya can't just *fire* people who take opposing viewpoints, and you betcha there will be some opposing viewpoints! UGH.

PS: and I don't know if I believe in Hell, but I sure do believe the words of this post's title.
  • Lolis · 1 year ago
    I agree with this headline.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
If the Obama campaign is as smart as I think it is, an ad about this will go up on 1 or 2 Nov.
  • Watching U · 1 year ago
Let's hope it does, because now it's essentially a race between Obama and Palin.

Brokaw can try as he will but the momentum is to Obama and another debate isn't gonna change it.

Watching that ridiculous show "Lou Dobbs" and how Kitty Pilgrim is reporting that Sarah Palin is being unfairly treated by the mainstream media! She is also reporting Palin silenced her critics by that joke of a debate in which she got to spew her memorized talking points! My God, nothing at all about how she went to SIX DIFFERENT colleges to learn how to regurgitate canned talking points, Kitty? Lou Dobbs and Kitty Pilgrim have lost all journalistic integrity. They are simply shills for McCain and Palin.
  • bluestockton · 1 year ago
Gwen Ifill didn't come close to asking about this. But then, if Sarah hadn't felt like answering the question, she would have read one of her crib notes anyway.
  • ChicagoKid · 1 year ago
By state law in AK, if Levi had sex with Bristol when she was 15, it was rape of a minor. Since Trog is hers, not Sarah's, he raped her.
