AMERICAblog: They met playing euchre

Well congratulations to Bill and Michael! Sigh. I love love! And what I really love is that their relationship has lasted longer than any of the marriages in my own conservative, religious, homophobic family!

Want to know how to tell someone is from Michigan? They score euchre using the 5's...everyone else in the world uses the 4 and 6. At least this Hoosier does.

that's great and they deserve congratulations for 15 years!! We celebrated our 27th year back in February and I know what he means about the time just flying by.

Its about time committed gays and lesbians get the same chance at marriage as people like Ted Haggard, Larry Craig and the multiple marriage folks like John McCain and Britney Spears.

In May of 1993 I was in Detroit and getting ready to move to Charlotte, NC. As a gay man I am happy to hear that you found a great partenrship. :) We should all be so lucky.

Interesting logic: If you can't get married, you can't get divorced. Truly a mixed blessing.

In 1993 I was a sophmore in highschool in Saginaw Michigan, waiting patiently to graduate and get the hell out of dodge so I could come out in a more friendly environment. I'm glad to hear that you found love in Saginaw. It's an extremely hard place to live but filled with really good people. GOing back there for a family visit in 3 weeks, and maybe I'll swing by Bambi's to pay hommage! :) I've been living in the "other" Portland for 8 years and sadly I only have two friends who know how to play Euchre, so we're one shy from a functional game.

In May of '93 my partner and I were in our second year of a relationship that tis still going strong and happy, in spite of the fact that we retired to what is probably the most homphobic state in the U.S.-- Florida. As some say, it's slightly to the right of Mississippi. We thrive in spite of it.

(As an aside, while Oscar Wilde used "the love that dare not speak its name" in his trial, it actually originated with his guy Bosie -- Lord Alfred Douglas -- in his 1892 poem, "Two Loves."

That is very sweet. I know he's loved by a lot of folks over there for his great, well-written posts. They basically took up a fund when he lost his "real" job just to keep him going with Cheers and Jeers. Now that is community.
