AMERICAblog: This is a defining moment

  • suzie2kids · 1 year ago
Loved the ad. I've got a question though. Why at the end does it say Barack Obama President and not Barack Obama for President?
  • Fireblazes(cheetohsandcatfood) · 1 year ago
If you think it you can be it.
  • Spunky_Jitters · 1 year ago
It does. I suppose it is because he soon will be. He is already my president. But it does concern me: the rethugs may find that and make the case that Obama already thinks he is President. Silly, yes: but so was Ashley Todd and they have nothing else to fling except their own poo.
  • mirth · 1 year ago
Because his election is merely a formality.
  • Rob Mule · 1 year ago
And unlike so much teevee and the near gothic McCain teevee effort, the Obama spots are clear, to the point, bright and upbeat.
  • tduffy2 · 1 year ago
I like the fact that Obama specifically asks for your vote.

Just having a President who is articulate will be such a refreshing change!
  • vkobaya · 1 year ago
Will be refreshing not to be embarrassed when our president meets with other world leaders and I don't have to worry about his farting, burping, vomiting or other social gaffes, such as molesting the prime minister of a major ally. even if she likes it. Also will be nice that when he invites the Queen of England to dinner, he won't serve her barbecued hot dogs and Brew 102.

SWEET! This is the close we've been looking for.:)
  • Indigo · 1 year ago
    Excellent!
  • Spunky_Jitters · 1 year ago
I cannot help but get a bit misty eyed when I hear Obama talk to the nation as if we actually have intelligence. So refreshing. After 8 years of total BS, how can anyone not vote for this man? Now HERE is a guy I would like to have a beer with :)
  • Steve_in_CNJ · 1 year ago
this is therapy. i'm starting to feel whole again. :)
  • erick28 · 1 year ago
10 days and can't wait. Great and very intelligent ADS that will make the independents think of who is well suited to be the next President.
  • PrettyMuch · 1 year ago
Hey, he is now putting the tax break limit at 200.000 instead of 250.000 (I noticed this also in the last debate, where he mentioned both numbers). Good thing McCain has no more money to spend.
  • Hurrycane · 1 year ago
I think it might be $200,000 for an individual, $250,000 for a family. But you'll need to look it up. (I'm in a hurry...)
  • houstonray · 1 year ago
I was thinking the same thing, it might be a 'family' vs 'individual' issue....
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
    I think it's a cut for 200k and under.

No change for 200 to 250

And an increase for 250 and over.

At least, that was the consensus on Kos, where they had the same problem with that line.

I worry that he didn't spell everything out enough here--people are thinking 250k because of the debates and ads, and now to have the 200 number floating around looks like he's changing his position, even though he's really not.

The McCain people can play mischief with this.
  • houstonray · 1 year ago
    That makes sense.
  • PrettyMuch · 1 year ago
My guess he did some very clever communicating, making everyone in the 200-250 group believe the'll get a cut, when in fact they are not.

Like I said, good thing McCain is broke.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
Well, I think he always said "People under 250k will not see a tax increase......"

He should have phrased it that way here, and just added "and those under 200k will see a tax cut."
  • gumbygirl · 1 year ago
I'm not sure, but I thought it was a tax cut if you make up to 200k, and no increase in taxes between 200-250k.

    Head-Up Folks

Here the lastest from the Houston Chronicle...

Their reporting that more than a quarter of a million voters have cast their ballots early, in person or by mail this week in Harris County (Houston)!

    More than 220,000 in person

    and another 40,000 by mail

    WOW

The paper also reported that Obama has a slight lead in a Harris County Poll (50.4%)... first time a dem leads in 44 years!

Plus it gives Noriega (50.4%) the edge over Sen. Cornyn ("the president senator" a term I hate because I always through he should have been my senator or at least the people senator...)

Might not Texas be in play after all!

WILL SOMEONE TELL OBAMA TO SEND MONEY AND FAST BEFORE THE REPUBLICANS WAKE UP!
  • houstonray · 1 year ago
    AMEN!!!

I'm in Houston and I've been saying it for weeks now, I really think there is a chance to turn Texas Blue....there are Obama supporters all OVER this city and I'm sure it's the same in Dallas, and probably more so in San Antonio and Austin.

I went to early vote yesterday and stood in line for over an HOUR and I can tell you there were tons of Obama supporters around me (hearing conversations, seeing shirts, buttons, etc). I selected the straight Democratic button because I want the Republican's OUT of my government. Here in Houston we have 15 years of Republican control in the Judicial system and most everywhere, except our Mayor, Bill White, who is a Democrat. It's time for change and I hope Obama's coat tails are long and Dems win everywhere. Would LOVE to see John Cornyn lose...
  • therepguy · 1 year ago
    Me too...

I votes the other day out here in Copperfield and there was lots of Obama folks voting...

I spend part of my time San Francisco and Nancy was my congress person and I know here well. I call here often to rant because of my limited support down here and she always talks with us and its lot of fun talking over issues.
  • houstonray · 1 year ago
I worked in Copperfield for 14 years! (live in the Heights though) and it always struck me as very Conservative. Glad to hear that Obama supporters are out there too!

Sheila Jackson Lee is my Rep so she's always cool to talk to about issues...
  • therepguy · 1 year ago
I somehow think that Americans and Texans simple are feed up and want
to turn the page and start anew... maybe with Obama we can start to
care for others and become a kinder and gentler people... and start to
apply the bible as it was meant to be applied while end this hatred
the republicans have foster all these many years.

    Yours

    Did he mispronounce "divisiveness"? *cringe*
  • suzie2kids · 1 year ago
It's one of those words that can be pronounced two ways ('You say potato and I say potAHto'). While I've always said it with the second "i" long, I think it sounds more calming the way he says it.
  • skeptic · 1 year ago
    Excellent!
  • houstonray · 1 year ago
I think this should be THE ad that gets played over and over in every primetime show, cable channel, etc, in every state from now until the election...
  • loona_c · 1 year ago
    http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/60774...

Headline in today's Houston Chronicle "Obama has a slight lead in Harris County (Houston) poll" Dem would be the fist since LBJ to carry the county.. Voters also giving edge to Noriega over Cornyn
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
I hear there's a lot of voter machine hanky panky going on in Texas.

    http://www.bradblog.com/?p=6559

Anybody voting in Texas should not vote straight party, but go down the whole list voting Democrat for every office.

When you vote straight party Dem, some of the machines seem to switch it to straight party Repub.

Why does Barack say he will cut taxes for people making less than $200k and not $250k as he tax policy states? Just getting nervous he is changing his tax plan a week before the election.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
He'll cut taxes for those making under 200k

No change for those making 200-250k

Increase for those making over 250k

I believe he's always said "Anybody under 250k will not see a tax increase...." which is true.
  • WalterB · 1 year ago
Thanks for clarifying. That makes me feel better. I think the $200k number may just be a bit confusing to people because everyone .know the $250k number.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
    I agree.
  • minik · 1 year ago
yep, that was a bit of a mistake in the ad. The same thing hit me and that's why i checked the comments. But TV doesn't have "comments" you can read.
  • naschkatzehussein · 1 year ago
"End programs that don't work." Faith based initiatives, abstinence only, I hope, I hope.
  • skeptic · 1 year ago
You have a problem with teaching mythology? God said, in a phone call I think to the Pope, that teenagers should take more cold showers and never do anything sexual until they had a wife that they could use when ever they wanted. The male rules!
  • brian · 1 year ago
Two different strategies at work. Obama's plan is to speak directly about our problems. McCain's plan is to speak about Obama. The Republicans have lost their way. Their plans are discredited, for the most part. However, they will try to give socialism to the rich again in a few years time. We cannot just be content with an Obama election, but with change within this country. I do not believe that the Republicans will go quietly into the night.
  • ianasdfg · 1 year ago
If US elections were about whether the median voters will be better off the GOP wouldn't exist.
  • Kcunac · 1 year ago
I just had a thought based on a memory. I remember the Bushes ascending the steps of the White House on Inauguration Day because I remember the mikes catching Laura Bush saying to HRC "Good morning, Senator."

What a proud day it would be if, as expected, Barak and Michelle Obama ascend those steps together.

America is a little behind much of the civilized world. It's getting there, inch by inch.
  • LeftCoastOracle · 1 year ago
This man is soooo ready to be president. I swear if McCain pulls this out I may have to move to Sweden.
  • LDLF · 1 year ago
This ad only proves Obama has no original rhetoric. Do you know that Ronald Reagan asked the same thing in 1980 during his second presidential debate and considered a defining moment of that debate?

Barack Obama is using rhetoric from a Republican?

Here is the link and the text:

    http://www.cepr.net/index.php/publications/repo...

In his closing remarks during the final presidential debate of 1980, Ronald Reagan famously asked the American people: "Are you better off now than you were four years ago?"
