AMERICAblog: This is why McCain canceled the debates. Watch Sarah Palin on CBS tonight. Utter disaster.

  • ezpz · 1 year ago
OMFG!! She basically said: 'I'll have to get back to you on that one.'
    Is she serious???
    Whoa!
  • stranded · 1 year ago
I expect that's going to be heard a lot during her debate with Biden. As if there WERE going to be a debate. I'm not holding my breath.
  • Savage8862 · 1 year ago
Why is McCain going back to Washington since he hasn't shown up for a vote in the Senate since April? Why now?
  • mikecoatl · 1 year ago

Is that Palin or an SNL skit?
  • woodroad34 · 1 year ago
    Seriously!
  • kanawah · 1 year ago
I would rather have the participants in the SNL skit that the two idiots the republicans have put fourth. If they are elected, not only will we have a financial disaster, there will be no one there to get us out of the hole.

The really bad part is that there are enough stupid people out there, that it is a real possibility that the disaster duo will be elected.
  • RLG · 1 year ago
a true politician. Never answered the question.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
Omg, she actually said " I'll try to find you some and I"ll bring them to you"????????????????? Absolutely the most stupid answer to a very straight forward question. This woman is SOOOOOO not ready to be anything other than some politician in Alaska. Looks and charm will only get you so far AFTER that you need brains.

I heard she is considered REALLY smart in Alaska.

Jebus. Someone from her home state better step up and disown this lunatic before the whole state is labeled as a fucking joke.

I do not have the link, but I saw a post with photos (about 50 of them) about a rally in Anchorage on the 14th. It was said to have been the biggest political rally in the states history. The organizers were hoping for 50 to 100 people. (They were just 3 or 4 women who had decided to do this over coffee.) They had just posted a few fliers around the area. When they arrived about 20 minutes before the rally, there were people all over the library lawn and sidewalk. The estimate was 1400 people. Previously about 150 was ‘the record’.

The posters they had were a bit on the vicious side.

Unfortunately, I did not save the link.

Again, let me say, McCain does not scare me as much for nominating Palin. Palin scares me more because that crazy b*tch accepted without ever thinking she might be in a little over her head.
  • Will_In_Midtown · 1 year ago
That being said, I still think it was one of the most reckless decisions ever made to select her.

The last time a major Presidential candidate suspended a campaign this late in the game was in 1992. That candidate was a real nut job, but it appears McCain has surpassed even the wonderful, wacky world of Ross Perot. Next thing you know, McCain will accuse Bush of sending black-clad stormtroopers across the yard of one of his eight houses.

in a comment earlier today on A-blog i said that Barney Frank was undercutting a democratic rejection of the bail-out. sure enough (h/t to FDL):

There's a summary copy of Frank's bailout bill up at TPM. It's essentially a Wall Street giveaway plan, with only some fig leaves to try and pretend that it isn't.

Why? Because the language about taking warrants in exchange for buying up toxic assets is only for direct purchases and not for reverse auction puchases, which will be the majority of the purchases. As Soros points out, in any reverse auction, the government will get stuck with the most toxic of toxic waste because of information asymetries. In exchange they should at least get stock, equal not to what they paid, but to the face of the crap they are buying.

There is quite a bit of language about helping mortgage holders, but it is almost all qualified with words like encourage and request, rather than require. Since the Treasury is bailing mortgage holders out, the idea that the Secretary must "encourage" and "request" is just BS. The correct response is to make help for mortgage holders a requirement of participating in the program at all. If financial institutions don't like that they don't need to participate. Good way to make sure that companies that don't really need help don't swill at the trough.

Unlike the Dodd bill, this is not a copy of the actual language of the bill, but a summary gloss. Without seeing the language we don't know what's actually in there. Dodd was straight up with us. Frank is hiding his legislative language. Why?

This isn't to say there isn't some good stuff in here, the best part of it is that it includes the "Helping Families Save Their Homes in Bankruptcy Act", which allows restructuring of mortgages so that bankrupt individuals can keep their houses. Not as good as helping people not go bankrupt in the first place, like is being done for banks, but still an excellent provision.

Nonetheless, overall, this is a stab in the back, an attempt to give public money to private concerns with almost zero upside for ordinary citizens. If Reid doesn't back Dodd, hardcore, or if the House doesn't revolt, this is probably the bill we're going to wind up with.

But we keep getting the meme that the DEMS are on our side. Two words: rohayton/soros

I sure as hell hope Obama cleans house, I sure as hell hope he's for change. If not, its time to completely disavow the DEM party for good.

But last time a DEM went against the establishment, he took a bullet to the head, just sayin......

The rethuglicans really have a wonderful VP candidate, who seems so ready to step in as President, without blinking. What a bloody disaster.

She is not only ready to be a VP, she is not even ready to be an aide to a VP.
All her experience has been centered in Alaska, and she does not have a clue
about national issues, because she has never needed to know about it.
All this crap from the republicans about Palin being more qualified than Obama is nothing but rethuglican BS. You cannot compare the two.
Palin is all about moose droppings, and piles of snow. Obama has been engaged in national issues, and can very competently answer questions relating to crucial subjects. She is a backward, rookie, and is way over her head.

    Good choice Old Mac.

Watch "Countdown" tonight. Keith is going to show some film of Palin's wacko preacher. From the tiny clip at the beginning of the show, apparently the preacher talks like Ernest T. Bass.

Oh, sure....she'll get back to Katie. I'm sure Miz Palin scuttled her beauty queen legs right out of that studio and told her newly-appointed Rovian guards to not let Katie within 2000 miles of her. There's probably a "bitch" thrown in that conversation somewhere as well.

Palin's minister is FAR stranger than Jeremiah Wright ever was. Why is it taking so long for the media to pick up on this? Her minister held a WITCH HUNT, for Christ sake, and told his congregants they'd go to hell if they dared to criticize George Bush. And of course they had that program on how to de-gay gay kids. What a freak show church! Where are the journalists who obsessed over Jeremiah Wright for WEEKS?
  • JadedJane · 1 year ago
heck, mainstream media is almost all owned by rich white republicans... OF COURSE you won't see them trashing Palin's minister the way they did Obama's (who actually made a lot of sense when you listened to his whole sermons instead of sound bites) This guy, on the other hand, is a total whack job, but you'll never see it on Fox News or any of the other radical right media...

Most people would be blushing with embarrassment at being caught so flat-footed, and even Bush would have pulled off something that was better. GOOD GOD I AM PAYING THAT BASTARD A BACKHANDED COMPLEMENT. If this is a sign of the Apocalypse the upside is she'll be raptured right away and we'll be rid of her. Sometimes it's too bad all that's a fantasy. Like when Bush looks good even by comparison with eviler.

OMG that was frightening! This woman has NO AWARENESS of how unprepared she is, or is she too stupid to kow? McSame actually has her in a position to potentially be a heart beat away from the Oval Office?

McSame has damned near committed treason in selecting someone so uninformed and so unqualified.

  • sukabi1 · 1 year ago
That seems to apply to the entire Republican party, the current administration and all their appointees ... AND the geniuses on Wall Street...
  • ydthin · 1 year ago
wow, that is really brilliant. It's a shame but unfortunately in our culture attractive people probably do get an inflated estimation of their own competence, in specfic. Palin also screams axis IV personality disorder to me, either Borderline or Narcissistic or something comorbid between the two. Both of those types have characteristics of arrogance and superiority to others while being calculating enough to think they can lie their way out of (and through) anything and everything.

why are you all being so mean to the new Holly Golightly? i mean, gee. She's new in town.

And no, they won't drop her. The "base" LOVES her. She is the "anointed one."

I really think they are stalling to try to figure out how to get the polls back to where the election would be stealable. (i know that's not a word).
  • jiminportlandoregon · 1 year ago
It may not technically be a word, but I know exactly what you mean and I agree with you.
  • ydthin · 1 year ago
Bingo. Exactly. Spot on. How can they pull off the fraud this time?

And Palin may not be the most well-rehearsed liar, but she makes up for it in vengefulness. If McCain were to win and then croak (if Rove doesn't try to pull a 'weekend at Bernie's' scenario) she could really cause a ruckus with her game-playing and back-biting. Which would be fun to watch, but it might further weaken this country. Wouldn't it be a shame if the first woman president ever ended up being impeached? It could set that quest back a few decades, which would thrill the republicans to pieces.
  • Tyke · 1 year ago
Another rreason McCain may want to cancel debates:

Melanoma is often a precursor to a metastatic brain tumor. Among the symptoms from a metastatic brain tumor:

    - Emotional instability, rapid emotional changes
    - Memory loss, impaired judgment, calculating deficiencies
    - Personality changes
    - Pupils of eyes are a different size
    - Vision changes -- double vision, decreased vision
    - Weakness of a body area
  • mikecoatl · 1 year ago

well that was fun! LOL... Ms. Palin has learned her talking points well... too bad her "handlers" don't have ANYTHING BUT "talking points" to fill her head with... and if you'll notice, McCain hasn't been doing much better lately... he's mister "Talking Points Central"...

what's even worse, it seems like Ms. Palin thinks she nailed the interview...

So how long before one of our "illustrious journalists" gets fed up and goes "rogue" with questions that haven't been spoon fed to her??
  • freshpaint · 1 year ago
o my god -- the transcript makes her sound brilliant in comparison with the tape. And Katie doesn't look pleased at all. She's not my favorite newsperson, and I always thought her a lightweight, but you can see what's going through her mind: Just whothef*** is this bimbo?
  • jiminportlandoregon · 1 year ago
I felt like I was watching the church lady on that video. I would love to know what is REALLY going on. By McCain's own admission, any knowledge of the economy is cursory at best. Why, then, does he feel it's necessary to be in Washington to "negotiate" a deal. With his admitted lack of knowledge, he couldn't negotiate his way out of a wet paper bag on this topic. Also, he has not been present in the Senate since April 8th and he has missed over 100 votes since that date. Many of those votes were also crucial to Americans, not least of which were the votes for the veterans and the Medicare vote, which barely passed. All of a sudden he must be present for this? I don't believe it for a second - but I can't put my finger on what the real issue is. I think it's more than the polls. I wonder if it's regret over his selection of Palin, or his fear of looking like an idiot in the debate. I just wish I knew....
  • sukabi1 · 1 year ago
It's likely something that hasn't quite hit the front pages... I'm thinking it might have something to do with his son Andy and Silver State bank and FBI investigations... but it could very well be that Ms. Palin is causing him a bit of "pain"...
  • henrythefifth · 1 year ago

In the political world, Sarah Palin is a dim bulb. She's probably an intelligent person in the everyday world, but as a candidate for VP, she's incredibly overmatched and it shows every time she can't just go out and read her stump speech. • lauradoggett68 · 1 year ago
That is a pin called "Blue Star". The US government began handing out Blue Star flags during WW2 to families who had a son in the service. If two sons were serving, the family received two blue stars on their flag, and so on... These flags were proudly displayed in the windows of homes all over America. When a son was killed at war, the government replaced the blue star with a gold star on the flag. Sarah Palin is wearing a Blue Star pin in support of her son, Track, who was recently deployed by the US Army. This pin is a sign of her support of him. This is certainly not gender specific. It could be a son or daughter serving, and when they do, a blue star can be worn by the family.
