This post is just what I want to see a LOT more of: calling Republicans on their fear, on their wussy-dom. It's downright un-American. Home of the brave? Not with the GOP--it's home of the wusses. And whether the issue is cap and trade or a public health alternative or gays in the military or gay marriage or a national security strategy that is brave enough to accord with our own professed fundamental values, Republicans take the wussy position and want everyone to be scared to death. It's pathetic and I want to see more voicing of their cowardice in the public discourse. So thanks!

As Robert Heinlein put it (under somewhat different circumstances), these guys think that because some industry(ies) have made profits in the past, the SAME people are Constitutionally entitled to ALWAYS make profits from the SAME things. And if that's so, "I intend to go into the horse-and-buggy line and sue the auto industry for restraint of trade."

The Pony Express would have a good case against the US Postal Service....

Actually they wouldn't. The US Post OFFICE [the government agency that delivered the mail in the 1850's] would have been all in favor of the Pony Express. And certainly offered them no competition at the time! The Pony Express was done in by the TELEGRAPH [and possibly later by the railroads]. They would have been better served suing Western Union, who would have later been best served suing the Telephone company, who would today be best served by suing whoever runs/invented the Internet... If we carry your analogy further: The Postal Service should have sued Federal Express, as should have UPS, who at the time were delivering packages in brown trucks.

Isn't this the same asshat who said the Iraq war would be cost in the millions instead of the trillions? Why would ANYONE listen to this dipshit when it comes to what anything truly costs?

And the inference we are to draw from the Republicans' arguments against addressing global warming is that there will be no negative economic consequences if we simply do nothing to curb greenhouse gas emissions. I'm certain this has a great deal to do with the Republicans' belief in their version of science's theory of Jesus and His Magic Wand.

Should anyone be surprised? It's 'Voodoo Science' after 'Voodoo Economics'. You don't have to come up with tough solutions if you don't recognize there's a problem to begin with.
The only thing we can do is work hard to make sure they never get into power ever again.

Always predictable. They're a bunch of complete chickens, afraid of their own shadow and the terrifying world that addresses climate change. Yes, jobs will be lost as they are with any innovation or change but what about the jobs created?
Nice except for one thing. Cowardice??? When it comes to cowardice, what about the left always cowering in terror everytime a right winger raises his voice? Lots and lots of issues where I can't figure out why Obama doesn't stand up to the Republican bluster and bluff and spit in their eyes. Republicans are full of shit, but that shit seems to do a damn good job cowering the Democrats into a corner shivering in fear. A lot of the Right Wing bluster is covering up for their terror at the real world, brown and black people, other religions, terrified of gays, scared of women, etc. The attacks on Sotomayor are sheer, insane terror of anyone who isn't exactly like them White, Anglo Saxon, Protestant and male, yet, at best, I hear only a very soft timid response from our side. Frankly, we should be laughing ourselves sick at those demented, vile, perverted, hateful attacks that they can't mount a better offense, but instead we give legitimacy to all the foulness coming out of the Republicans by hiding under our beds with our arms thrown over our heads. Even moderates who are more prone to support us wonder at our inability to respond to the degenerate attacks from Limbaugh, Cheney and Newt and wonder why we are so afraid of them, and think that the right wing has to be the winners since we fail to have any response.
Worst of all, biggest disappointment of all is Obama, who I had expected to be one of our leading thinkers. Way he keeps running away from the issues, he seems to be very little brighter than Bush, talks better, but seems to have no original thoughts in his head. Sigh! Either that or someone put out that bright, bright candle.
