Why doesn't the international community proclaim a no-sail zone about 300 miles offshore, and just zap any unauthorized intruders?

Um, MAYBE it's pirating/kidnapping that has repercussions!

You never put yourselves at risk? Do you mean intentionally?

It should be mentioned that Sarko is 5'6". Tough guy. Little man.

Why has there been no attention paid to some of the pirates claims that they actually consider themselves a sort of "volunteer coastguard" that was formed in order to defend themselves from a massive wave of over-fishing and illegal dumping of toxic and nuclear wastes in their waters? If these claims are false, it would be good to at least get the real truth about them.

Sarkozy took action because he's short. Right, stupid.
At least in Sarkozy's case there are also dead pirates. Without a lot more dead pirates this problem won't end. Sometimes perpetrators deserve to see some gun slinging come their way. More negotiating, more ransoms and more and more pirates. More dead pirates, fewer pirates. It's not that complicated.
And I am sorry about the dead French hostage.

Why isn't the Navy patrolling these waters via fighter jets and attack helicopters, so as to intercept the pirates before they board ships???
Seems like the Navy would be in total control before the pirates board ships - at which time the Navy has lost its control of the situations.
Fer crissakes...these pirates have to travel over long expanses of ocean before accessing the target ship - isn't that when they are most vulnerable?
I almost get the quesy feeling the Americans are tacitly approving piracy by not aggressively preventing piracy.
What is the purpose of having our Navy at sea if we aren't going to guard against piracy???

Somali pirates? Pretty small potatoes compared to the US imperial land-pirates, who are currently aiming their guns at thirty million Iraqis, demanding that that let US oil companies be allowed to steal their oil. We are also pointing our guns at some sixty million Afghanis, demanding that they allow US oil companies to build pipelines across their country. And if they have the gall to resist, we bomb them, wound them, maim them, imprison them, blindfold them, torture them and kill them. We are the US Imperial Land-pirates of the 21st Century.
