I carried a fairly high balance on my Bank of America Mastercard. They raised my APR from 10.9% to 19.99% just like that. Not because I had missed a payment or been late on a payment in the 22 years I had the account. Because I was CLOSE to the limit (not OVER the limit, but close). I got a home equity loan and paid them off immediately. In hindsight, I suppose they did me a favor by waking me up. Not that I'll ever do business with them again.

So, now the bank has a lien on your house? I'm not sure that's a good thing. Banks are voracious...

I look forward to hearing how the new president and democratic congress are going to address these very same issues here in the US. As things get worse the bank's behaviors get more and more egregious. Something tells me that this is a crucial part of beginning to fix this mess. I was late on one payment on a gas card that I pay in full every month and have done so for years. My credit line was cut by 66%, my interest rate skyrocketed, and I received calls every 30 minutes from 8 AM to 9 PM every single day until my payment cleared. Needless to say I closed the account immediately.

I quit banking 6 months ago, when my regional bank sold itself to a larger Ohio bank. Now everything is paid in cash. The only reason they like small accounts like mine is so they can collect on overdrafts they hope you make and fees for the convenience of a debit card.

They can go to hell. You can bargain better with cash anyway. Everyone is looking for CASH. I intend to spend mine, of course. We haven't had credit cards in years, and only pay CASH for everything.

Jesus threw the moneychangers out of the temple. It is obvious that bankers are criminals. This crisis reveals exactly what you get when you run your economy based on the emperor's new money.

So instead of FIXING the REAL economy driven by labor and manufacturing, the idiots in congress are propping up these criminals and looting the U.S. treasury on their behalf.

This country deserves to go down in the flames that are consuming it as we speak.

Hundreds of millions of people didn't form this country so that we could be told that we're all on our own while the moneychangers pillage and loot and despoil everything we and our forefathers worked for.

Perhaps it is just desserts after all.... we will find ourselves homeless in the land our forefathers stole from the natives.

Oh my God, this is like word-for-word from a parable:

"Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. As he began the settlement, a man who owed him ten thousand talents was brought to him. Since he was not able to pay, the master ordered that he and his wife and his children and all that he had be sold to repay the debt.

"The servant fell on his knees before him. 'Be patient with me,' he begged, 'and I will pay back everything.' The servant's master took pity on him, canceled the debt and let him go.

"But when that servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii. He grabbed him and began to choke him. 'Pay back what you owe me!' he demanded.

"His fellow servant fell to his knees and begged him, 'Be patient with me, and I will pay you back.'

"But he refused. Instead, he went off and had the man thrown into prison until he could pay the debt. When the other servants saw what had happened, they were greatly distressed and went and told their master everything that had happened.

"Then the master called the servant in. 'You wicked servant,' he said, 'I canceled all that debt of yours because you begged me to. Shouldn't you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?' In anger his master turned him over to the jailers to be tormented, until he should pay back all he owed.

This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother from your heart."

    Matthew 18:23-35
