Human beings, I'm convinced, have gotten it wrong from the beginning. An overeducated white person who sits on his ass all day, lives better than kings of old, and controls the fortunes of billions of people while hardly lifting a finger would not exist if that weren't true. And people would not allow themselves to be ruled by tyrants of every stripe. When you say that has happened throughout history, you make my point--but has it really, or can we believe what has been written as "history?"

The birth place of the entire human race is the most disrespected section of the world. Humans have invented religions, twisted history and treated The Other in abominable ways no other animal would treat its own species. Who knows how many wake up every morning thanking "god" they weren't born black, even knowing that only by chance they weren't and who know nothing about the long history of their own ancestry because the link to a person of color would be "too hard to bear?"

Yesterday was the anniversary of the debut of Darwin's "The Origin of the Species" and in 153 years, there are some on this planet who believe white people walked with dinosaurs and many who think the color of your skin entitles you to more than your fair share. Homo sapiens is an oxymoron.

Politics isn't the real reason nothing is done about Zimbabwe, Sudan, Congo, Haiti, Somalia. Even though many people may understand it, it's not a priority in an era of selfishness, ignorance and greed.

This is the real shame of the human race. And it might be why we strive for the illusory supremacy of our own selves while denying the humanity of others.
