    good morning....

NEW YORK - Retailers reported dismal sales figures for December on Thursday as even Wal-Mart Stores Inc., one of the bright spots in the industry, finally buckled under the pressures of the deteriorating economy.

This has been worrying me for awhile.

"China losing its taste for US debt"

    http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/08/business/worl...

Of course, it's possible we can sell our treasuries to other countries, but we'll probably have to jack up interest rates to make them attractive.

    BTW:

Good conversation on copyright stuff last night.

Even tho I didn't participate much, I enjoyed reading it.

    The Bush Legacy Project continues.

Rove writes in Fox Street Journal that Bush tried to head off the economic crisis, but those evil Democrats just wouldn't let him.

Yeah, and John McStain knows how to catch Bin Laden, but he STILL hasn't told anyone.
  • KerrynowCampau · 10 months ago
LOL! I had forgotten about that.

Would love to hear a reporter ask him why he hasn't shared his plan

Oh Lord.....not the Supreme Court again:

    from MN Campaign Report:

Here's to hoping that Coleman and Knaak, et. al. aren't planning to stick taxpayers with the bill for the farce to come. If, on the other hand, they're hoping to get the contest elevated to the U.S. Supreme Court..........

I've said this repeatedly over the past eight years, and I will say it again, REPUBLICANS ARE HORRIBLE PEOPLE. because of people like Rev Rick, and because republicans support Bush in his racist, petty move not to let the Obama's stay at BLAIR HOUSE.

Pretty damn small on George and Laura's part I'd say......but then they are small people....

The Pentagon has decided that it will not award the Purple Heart, the hallowed medal given to those wounded or killed by enemy action, to war veterans who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder because it is not a physical wound.

    Unbelievable !

Perfectly believable. It's not like the Pentagram is run by decent or considerate people, now is it?

    via Ygelsias:

Specter said in prepared remarks Tuesday that Obama did not consult with him before choosing Eric Holder Jr. to be attorney general, and he tells Legal Times that Obama also did not consult with him or notify him before announcing four other Justice Department nominees Monday.

Maybe Specter forgot that he’s in the minority party in the Senate and his party lost control of the White House, too.

Hope you're over your cold, Joe.

And since China is the #1 holder of US debt and is refusing any more, and the economies of Japan and Great Britain (the other 2 top holders of US debt) are in shambles, too, how will Obama pay for ARRP? And he's going to let Bush's tax cuts continue until 2010 as well, so no new tax revenue, in fact, less.

This horrible economy could last for years...and no matter what party is in control, the federal deficit, as well as state and local debt, will continue to grow. And I'm also beginning to believe that it will be years, if ever, before bailout money is paid back by the Wall St. thieves. Do people realize how much of those companies' assets are buried in CDOs and CDS? They're pretty much worthless because it's all paper value.

Hate to sound so pessimistic, but the future isn't looking bright at all...

The commentator Dent predicted 2017 as the turn around year. That prediction is already 10 years old. I'm uneasy about Dent's style and predictions but . . .
  • Older_Wiser · 10 months ago
Well, that could work out to one Obama term (or 2, but doubtful given the economic conditions) and a real fight in 2012 for power, with the forgetful public electing a Rethug just in time for the recovery?

Although I see it lasting far longer, with the debt taking decades to pay down.

    Also,
You don't really need to drink too much water of coffee or juice in the morning.
It's ok to not be well hydrated for one morning.
( I ran marathons too...drink plenty of water the day before and the evening before)
Waiting in line or finding a bathroom will be difficult.

So, hold off on drinking fluids in the morning if you're going to be outside for quite a few hours.

Whew...I'm overdosing on reputationless ex-CIA pretty boys and 'usual suspect 'DC pond scum trashing Obama's CIA Director pick.
The death of 1,000 cuts...the media speciality that hobbles the people big media fears.

    Is that all there is?

This morning you all but crucified John Travolta and Scientology. I beg to differ with you on the facts...I call to mind the rights movement to have Obama declared a non natural born citizen. All those so called experts and their sheep following bleating out these Conspiracy Theories....First all these so called doctors, have you seen documented proof of Degrees in medicine or proof of their personal examinations or autopsy of Jett Travolta? Of course not since they have done none. It appears they are trying to get their 15 minutes. Also autism seizures are not a prevalent as some would claim being they occur in under 25% of cases and there is no proof that autism causes these seizures. Also it was a doctor's diagnosis of his disease of Kawasaki Syndrome. Let's see some proof not conjecture.
Where have you verified Scientology as a phoney relegion. Because it was written by an author recently? I find that more believable than the torah which was written by a magician (Moses) whose cure was lamb's blood above the door (Passover). Or the Koran written by a warrior king. Maybe bondfire stories told at night about multple gods fighting demons, or a hindu prince wandering the known world without a belief in a supreme being except for man himself, who by cutting off his eyelids achieve atonement. Or maybe more to your liking stories about a virgin birth of another magician whose wanderings to tell people of love caused him to die at the hands of others on a tree. Everything has it's basis on individual belief.

As a 100% disabled veteran who is mobility impaired your advice sounds really helpful. it would appear as though the new administration is looking out for the disabled that wishes to participate in this event by driving us out of town or to the hospital. More of the same.... No change yet.

Oakland Protests Turn Violent After Police Shooting, NYT Says
    http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601103...

Some images of the violence in Oakland:
    http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/object/article?f=...

I live in Berkeley and there were delays on BART due to the violent protests. While I think the protesters have every right to be angry, I cannot help but see the sharp contrast between real violent protests and the peaceful protests I witnessed and participated in after Prop 8.
