    Good morning !

    Wolcott at Vanity Fair:

"As for that Obama-Hillary thing, I'm still for Hillary, though I recognize that the flag flapping above the fort is tattered and the time is drawing near for the bugler to sound the blue notes of valedictory."

I probably shouldn't comment, except--what is the person going to do to make this society better? Come on, how about stories about people who are really making a difference, not just trying to stuff their own pockets with cash?

    Call me Crabby.

    Dear Crabby ;-))

(And I love your posts, by the way.)

Not everyone is here on the planet to change society for the better. Some are here to drive nails into the wood that becomes the structural framework for our homes. Some are here to build our cars, and others are here to fix those cars when they break down. Some are here to offer their skills in the world of health and healing. Some are here to sling mops and man the vacuum cleaners in office buildings every night. Some are here to grow our food, some to ship it, and some to sell it to us.

And then there are those poor losers who've been given the gift of pure talent and creativity in this lifetime. The true artists among us. I know many of those people, and not a one of them is about trying to stuff their pockets with cash. They are simply trying to survive, within a culture that doesn't support individuality and creativity, long enough to finally be able to express their passion, their talent, their god-given gifts -- to an audience that is willing to receive and truly hear/see what they are offering. If only for a moment.

We all need a smile, a moment of recognition, memory or inspiration, or a full-body goosebump experience once in a while. I know that's what has kept ME going during these last many years of Bush/Clinton rule -- the artists amongst us.

And those artists include writers -- such as John A., Joe S., A.J., Cliff Schechter, and Chris in Paris.

Today's NYT: it's not just the ignorant, racist hillbillies of Appalachia who won't vote for Obama; it's cranky, ignorant, racist Jews who won't, as well. Unless, that is, they learn about Hagee (who goes unmentioned in the article).
  • KansasModerate · 1 year ago
I thought Rev. Hagee was a good friend of Israel.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
If they ever learn about Hagee's "theory" about God "sending" Hitler to exterminate the Jews and drive the remaining survivors to Israel, they may re-think their support for McCain.

Thanks for the morning smile, Joe. A little pop culture never hurt anyone, eh?

And I agree with Jacki -- there is a G*d. Archuletta has incredible talent for sure, but he's not quite ready for prime time. He will be in a few years. If Cook hadn't won, it would have been a crime -- he has the full package. The fact that he won by 12 million votes surprised me. It gives me newly-renewed faith in my fellow Americans' intelligence levels.

I therefore decree that Cook's win portends Obama's win in November ;-)

I can hardly wait to cry my post-menopausal eyes out on January 20 as he is sworn in to the presidency. What joy!!!

    Friday News Dump:

Senator John McCain is set to release 400 pages of medical records, including documents related to his melanoma surgery in August 2000, to a tightly controlled group of reporters on the Friday before Memorial Day weekend.

I thought American Idol was the Republican National Convention.

    Silly me.

Fake emails are being produced by the GOP to tar and feather Obama.

The spread of these e-mails has forced Obama to embark on a campaign to Americanize his image and his biography. Pivoting away from his pitch to a primary election audience uninterested in flag-waving and nationalism, he’s returning to the message that first brought him to the national spotlight in 2004: the idea that his is the quintessential American story.

Republicans are spreading these lies to hide the truth about Obama from voters.

If you get one of these emails be sure to send a copy to the DNC or Obama camp to make them aware of the attack.

PARIS (AFP)--North Atlantic Treaty 0rganization fighters tailed two Russian
bombers on patrol over the Arctic and Atlantic oceans for more than three
hours, a Russian air force spokesman said Thursday.

"The strategic bombers were approached on eight occasions by F-16, Tornado
and Typhoon fighters, including during air-to-air refueling," said Colonel
    Alexander Drobychevski

The Tupolev Tu-95 aircraft - propellor-driven Cold War era icons - were out
on patrol for 18 hours, he said, with re-fueling in flight from two Ilyushin
    Il-78 aerial tankers.

President Vladimir Putin decreed in August 2007 a resumption of strategic
bomber flights "on a permanent basis," reviving a practice that had been
suspended after the break up of the Soviet Union.

HuffPo is reporting on the unpopularity of the HRC campaign "nuclear option" and its strongarming the Rules Committee. If that goes against her, will she litigate for an outcome she wants? After all, yesterday she drew analogy to Bush v. Gore in Florida, and commented on how Gore's victory was taken away by someone who did not win the popular vote and who did not allow all the votes to be counted. Are we all ready for Clinton V. Obama?

In his May 21 post "A word about elites" John Aravosis wrote that President George W. Bush pulled the United States out of the Kyoto Protocol in his first term. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought President Clinton never presented Kyoto to the U. S. Senate for ratification. If so, there was nothing to pull out of.
  • lynchie · 1 year ago
Kansas: The U.S. agreed to the 1997 Kyoto accord. Clinton could not get it ratified because of the Republican Congress. Bush used his control of both houses to reject it 95 to 0. It has nothing to do with Clinton when your Republican polluters refused to agree to stop destroying our environment. Bush did pull out of what the U.S. had signed.
