I wished they televised Kerry's speech.

I just got to see bits and pieces of it, even on the cable networks.

Not sure what to make of Biden. He portrayed Russia as the evil guy in the conflict with Georgia, even though it was the US that instigated Georgia to attack its people in the South...Russia was responding to our behavior toward Georgia and the saber rattling at Iran. Is Biden another warmongering, tough talking Nationalistic freak like McCain??
Also, he voted for the Bankruptcy Bill even though he claims to support the Working Class. I don't know who he is.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
Yeah, the Russia thing threw me off.

I tend to believe in private he's telling Georgia "that was a stupid ass move" but doesn't want to diss a fledgling Democracy in public, though I'm just giving him the benefit of the doubt on that one.

As for the Bankruptcy thing--Delaware is where a lot of credit card issuing banks are based, so he was just pushing his consituents' interests. I can't really blame him for that.
  • dula · 1 year ago
It's a bad sign when you have to try and guess what a politician is really thinking...hoping it is the opposite of what they are saying.
I know Delaware if full of sleazy Creditors. Biden can't really speak of helping stuggling working Americans when he sold them out on the Bankruptcy Bill...he is running for more than VP of Delaware.
  • HereinDC · 1 year ago
    /

Biden is our VP. I'd rather have 100% of icing on my cake.....but if my cake has 95% icing....I think I'll sill enjoy my cake.

    :)
  • dula · 1 year ago
Do you know what kind of cake you have? It looks to me like it only has about 45% icing on it.

Apparently over the last three nights, I was watched a very different Democratic National Convention. I watched great speeches of unity, of future plans, of attacking the Republican lies and incompetence, and especially why America needs Barak Obama and Biden as our next President and Vice President. Unlike that of Joe Scarbrough, and the rest of his cronies in the morning. They heard no message, no attacking McCain's dismal record of voting 95 percent with President Bush, and no plans for the future of our country. I find that amazing..I guess I need my hearing checked.
  • vkobaya · 1 year ago
One consistent point made by people from Arizona is that McCain really is a mean, nasty, petty guy -- and vindictive.

That's why I wonder why so many speakers at the Democratic Convention like Biden, Bill and Hillary made the point that they very great friends with McCain ... how much they admired him. I thought it was very obnoxious, almost as if they were implying they liked him more than Obama.
  • anotherdumguy · 1 year ago
My feelings exaactly. If I hear one more time at this convention how wonderful his service was and what an honorable man he is I am going to puke. The theme should be that he has sold his soul to the devil and will say anything and tell any lie to gain power. Bush's lies got us into a war, and McCain is trying to lie his way into more wars.
Borrow and Bomb should be the mantra.
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
I know, I hate it when these politicians do that as well. Obama will most certainly not get that consideration from the Rethugs. As Pat Buchannan says, Rip into this Old man and take him down for god sake, or we are going to lose this thing.....again.

On a more positive note, the row call was kind of fun. I enjoyed it.

    good morning.

while a curiosity, there doesn't seem to be nearly as much interest in mccain's choice. i haven't seen stakeouts of the potential running mates homes like we did last week. i did pay attention yesterday afternoon when gregg craig suggested to one of the msnbc host that condi is being seriously vetted.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
Yeah, McCain is alledgedly "vetting" a black woman, a white woman, a Jew and an Indian-Catholic.

Forget it. He's just trying to act like he's a big tent candidate.

It will be Mitt, Pawlenty or Ridge.

Reminds me of when Mondale was "interviewing" one of every type of person for his VP slot.

Gary Hart compared it to one of those life raft movies, where they have one of every demographic on board, "including the kid with the harmonica."

(Of course, Mondale selected a woman--horrible candidate, but a woman nonetheless--so I suppose it wasn't all a sham.)
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
    Oh yeah.

I forgot the "Colin Powell" stories this week too.

    McCain's really pushing it.

Why has there been so little coverage of the convention on this blog?? I guess John is too busy partying in Denver to write anything. Quite disappointing.

    Excuse me?

John A. and crew are meeting people....LOTS of people...More than we know....I'm sure Americablog employees have been keeping copious notes and of course John is videoing them on his nifty new phone.

I'm informed with Americblog's coverage and I have gone to other sites to get their coverage too

So, as Pennsylvania Senator Bob Casey declared, McCain isn't a maverick--he's Bush's sidekick. And, as Ohio Governor Ted Strickland explained: "You know, it was once said of the first George Bush that he was born on third base and thought he'd hit a triple. Well, with the 22 million new jobs and the budget surplus Bill Clinton left behind, George W. Bush came into office on third base, and then he stole second. And John McCain cheered him every step of the way." Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer--the surprise star of the evening--said that the nation couldn't meet its energy needs just by drilling for oil, even if we drilled in every one of John McCain's back yards.

Politico.com: Bill basked in the applause: "I love this." Can this attention whore go quietly into the wings and finally, FINALLY allow Obama to take center-stage?
  • HereinDC · 1 year ago
    Chill....
Good to see Bill smiling so much..
    anyway...
Obama will be in Mile High Stadium tonight.
You Bill would of loved to been speaking in a stadium.
  • HereinDC · 1 year ago
    the MSM look foolish..
All this hype of Riots, kazoos, turning to the side when Hillary speaks, booing Bill,
    meltdown....

    LOL

And look what happened...the bar was set so low on a good outcome....and we get homeruns with Hillary and Bill and Joe's speeches.

could it have been planned all along? talk about managing expectations!!

Yeah, I'm kind of glad the Corporate Media has been predicting (and hoping for) doom and gloom.

Made it pretty easy to exceed expectations.

The stage area in Mile High Stadium was much different last night than the sacrificial altar looking thing that there are photos floating around. Much less gaudy and should be a non-issue by the time it's all done. But last night Rachel Maddow said it doesn't look all that different from the stage that George Bush gave his acceptance speech from. Anybody know where we can find photos of that and shove it in the Repugs faces that we deal with on a daily basis?

Kerry was EXTREMELY on point and rousing, too!!!

He is the REAL President, WHO DIDN'T CHEAT, and
earned at least 50 million votes. He also won all his
debates against demonic Bush and to have waged
that national campaign, winning all but 1 state that
he needed, THAT WAS MAJOR--a big accomplishment.

I think it's important for the psyche of Dems everywhere
-and my pals internationally who weren't poisoned by
U.S. Media and thought Kerry was great!!- to see John
Kerry, their candidate, again.... too much was left unsaid.

He was our guy and only losers tune out someone who
"falls down" at one point, for all time!!
(I believe that was a big theme of Joe Biden's speech--ahem!)
I noticed that the media, once again, really tried to block any
coverage of the former Democratic nominee! OMG!

I really believe that Kerry had the most pointed critique of McCain yet and gave the strongest rationale as to why McCain is not worthy! It's still ringing in my head!
  • 2008 · 1 year ago
Silly me, it's no accident that MSNBC cut away when Kerry started a damn good speech, nevermind the fact that WE VOTED FOR HIM IN DROVES!...

They've got to block his message. He really exposed McCain for the hypocrite that he is. It was simply THE TRUTH.

The media always seems scared to let any honest, principled person keep the stage! At least Obama scores high on popularity points and I hope he won't get blocked or distorted any more than he has been either.

Our mainstream media would rather cover fricking Britney Spears in depth than ever consider what the last Dem. Nominee and near President has to say at The Democratic Convention. duh. Too weird!
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
    John Kerry tore it up!

His speech will never be shown or discussed by the old media. Never.
find it on youTube and watch it.

    Novak yesterday:

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Reports of strong support within John McCain's presidential campaign for Independent Democratic Sen. Joseph Lieberman as the Republican candidate for vice president are not a fairy tale. Influential McCain backers, plus McCain himself, would pick the pro-choice liberal from Connecticut if they thought they could get away with it.

But they can't get away with it -- and this has been made clear to McCain by none other than Joe Lieberman himself.

Something you have to remember is that Novak is the conservative message board. Whenever an influential Wingnut wants to say something to those in power, they talk to Novak and he duly prints it.

(I learned this years ago when reading David Stockman's book: Whenever a cabinet member or congressman would give Stockman problems on budget cuts, Stockman would go to his "bulletin board" Novak, and anonimously call the guy out as a "closet liberal.")

Obviously, some influential conservatives don't want lieberman and are sufficiently afraid of the prospect that they had to go to the Bob Novak Bulletin Board.

It seems to me the word CHARISMA has been stricken from the Republican language. And why not? Their candidate doesn't have any CHARISMA, none, nada! Barrack has CHARISMA, is that the same as "rock star" or "celebrity NO. How many celebrities have charisma, not many.

I am sick and tired of this charge by the Republicans that Barrack is nothing more than a "rock star". The press and even the blogs have not pushed back hard enough on this. There is a difference, a huge difference between "celebrity" or charismatic.

Good morning, even though it's almost noon already! I was reading a very odd Yahoo! news article that explained how the "higher level" Democrats were concerned that Obama was presenting an "elitist" face. They were reported not to like the stadium speech concept, he should have breakfast at Waffle House in order to seem like one of the common people. I have to suspect that the Democrats being interviewed were of such a "high level" that they are White House Republicans in the factual world. And so it goes . . .
  • econprofes · 1 year ago
Not that it matters but I had serious reservations about the sincerity of the Clintons. After Bill’s speech, (no I am no longer going to refer to him by his first name, he deserves to be called by his title) after President Clinton’s speech all the lose ends that Hillary and Senator Warner left from the night before were taken care of. I always felt President Clinton was one of the best Presidents in America’s history but his actions during the primary really knocked my opinion of him several notches. Last night Bill Clinton (excuse me) President Clinton is right back on the top again. President Bill Clinton and Joe Biden both said that Barack Obama was ready to be Commander in Chief but when President Clinton stated that the same thing the Republican’s said about Barak Obama were that same things they said about him that was the grand slam. I have a good feeling now about our candidate’s chances, I am actually excited and anxiously waiting to hear Barack Obama crescendo tonight.
