AMERICAblog: Thursday Morning Open Thread

Good morning. Expect snapping and snarling all summer. The planet Jupiter begins retrograde motion tomorrow and will remain retrograde until September 7. Astrologers see a pending collapse of emotional control and business sense with a loss of perspective that will undermine the few gains made so far this year. The omens are most inauspicious. Will AmBlog find a fresh topic? The coming summer storms will solve that mystery.

McCain will snap and it will be a youtube moment in history. It's gonna be a landslide moment in November and the repugs will get buried.

I hope you're right--but, never underestimate the enemy. On CSPAN this morning, Clinton supporters are repeating the meme that Obama is not "electable" meaning that they themselves, a part of the white working class, still haven't addressed their own racism which has been honed by the Clinton campaign.
  • luvboxer · 1 year ago
I can't wait for this election. This is going to be interesting. I can't wait till Obama goes after McCain...I want to see McCain explode and it will happen it is just a matter of time. McCain is old school no new ideas same old Washington..we need new blood in Washington..new ideas to take us into the future and I believe Obama is that person.
  • luvboxer · 1 year ago
This is going to be a dirty campaign. The republicans are going to throw anything and everything at Obama...after all that is all they have left. I am hoping the dems unite and get behind Obama...we have two choices Obama or McCain !

In my book there is no choice we want to win the WH..we need to win the
    WH..

One CSPAN callers actually believes Clinton is a fiscal conservative.

He must not have gotten the news about her lavish campaign spending, her "gas tax holiday" (stolen idea from another big spender), etc. The NeoCon mentality still resides in some voters' brains.
  • moxiegrrrl · 1 year ago
Here's how I am guessing it will go for Clinton. She changes her tune to go after McCain instead of Obama. Over the next few weeks she puts in a strong, but not rabid, last-ditch effort to get the nod. At the end of it, she turns to her supporters and says she kept her word and stayed until the end, but she's out of options so she must step aside. As she said she would, she asks her supporters to support Obama, and since she has been attacking McCain instead of Obama for the prior few weeks, the transition is less volitile than if she dropped today.

Should that happen, I will think more positively on her than I have in quite a long time.

And today is Israel's 60th "birthday" and I learned an interesting fact from NPR. Since its creation in 1948, Israel's military has only lost 22,000 of its minions. They didn't mention how many Palestinians have been killed, though, nor the devastation many have lived through.

I find it interesting that although Jews and Arabs come from the same Semite gene pool, Israel is, in practice, the same kind of theocracy--a state based on a certain religion--that some Arabs also support. Perhaps Israel considers itself a "democracy" but its very existence is based on what one Israeli officials described as "Jewish" state.

In the 21st century, it's also amazing to me that people have killed and destroyed in the name of 3 religions that are all based on the mythical Abraham, a delusional at best who heard voices to sacrifice his son and then thought better of it. Would that fly today? Hell no, so why do people continually believe it?

    Good morning....

And where are John McCain's medical records??

    Moxie:

    I hope you're right, though I'm doubtful.

If she does that, though, I don't think she'd ask her followers to support Obama until the convention.

I think she'd just "suspend" her campaign in the meantime.

In a decision first floated last fall, President Bush has nominated Minnesotan Cynthia Bauerly to the shorthanded Federal Election Commission. Tapping Bauerly, a Democrat and top aide to Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y. who's also worked for Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-MN, is meant to sweeten the strong medicine of another Bush FEC pick: vote-suppressor Hans von Spakovsky, whose name Bush won't withdraw after two years despite widespread Senate aversion to him. Bush needs Senate confirmations to fill the four of six FEC chairs currently empty.

Approval of John McCain's request to withdraw from the federal campaign-financing program and go on a private-funds spending spree instead, depends on a functioning FEC.

There IS work to do. And we're doing it in the reddest part of oh-so-red Central Florida.

Florida's 12th Congressional District is "represented", though a more accurate term might be "used as a stepping stone to partisan power" by Adam Putnam, third-ranking Republitard in the House.

Please help a committed progressive veteran working for peace in FL-12.

    Doug Tudor.

    Retired Navy Master Chief.

Former Flagwriter for three CENTCOM commanders.

    Democrat.

    Running against Adam Putnam.

Doug Tudor can beat Adam Putnam if he can get funded.

    Please help.

    www.teamtudor.org

Maybe if someone besides me suggested to John that Doug be "adopted" as an Americablog candidate?

You heard about Bush trying to stack the FEC, didn't you?

He proposed a new list of members, keeping a Repub. shill and adding a guy who wants to give McCrazy a break on his current campaign violations.

    Nice.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
You explained it better than I, Grandma.

    Thanks.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
The lump on McCrazy's face is growing bigger by the day.

Pretty soon, his head will be one big tumor.
  • Deacon_Blues · 1 year ago
Oh yeah buddy, I'm ready for that fight! As long as we can keep the media on the center of the road (maybe dangle barbecue sandwiches in front of them), we're going to blow that hypocritical bastard's doors off. Considering how many hard core Republicans I know that have told me that they like -- and plan to vote for -- Obama, I think Rush and his tiny-brained minions will be irrelevant in November.

Tweety talks about MSNBC's pro-Hillary bias:

His full statement, in response to a question whether MSNBC officially supports Obama (via Politico's Michael Calderone):

"Well, it's not official." (LAUGH) "Well, I don't think Joe Scarborough has. And I don't think Tucker Carlson did. And Keith does his thing. He does his thing--it's something and it's very successful. I do my thing. I don't think that's true. I think... my sense is that everybody that lives in New York is for Hillary. The people I work with--all my bosses--seem to be for Hillary. I just sense it. They don't actually say it, but there's no sense from the top I can tell you that it's pro-Obama.. by any means. That's not what I get. And it was basically pro-war during the war.. the bosses were. And I was up against that. And if there's anybody telling me to push Obama, I haven't heard it yet. And by the way, they're so fickle.... but there seems to be a New York thing about Hillary. Just the people from... it's like the Yankees and the Mets... it's their thing. You know? It's Hillary. You know? And I feel it. I find it. It's hard to figure sometimes. But I don't know who you are talking about. I know who you are talking about."

I made the very grave error of tuning in the Tweety Show yesterday on MSNBC. It is patently obvious that the MSM shills and liars are getting directives from on high to play with the race issue, to keep Hill-Billy going at all costs, thus giving the GOP a finely tuned target to Swift Boat. It is obvious that corporate America is shitting in their collective boxers over Barack. He is going to threaten CEO multimillion dollar bonuses, empower, at least in feeling, minorities, and generally rock the boat. It is obvious they are shitting right now over this. MSM execs are sending down talking points to fuck this up for the Dems. They may hate McCain but they love their biz friendly GOPers.

You know...a little aikido could turn that right around, about Obama not being "electable". It would be a GREAT thing for him to do. Start wearing a flag pin and an "unelectable" pin. Let him play it up "it's funny how those elitists want to tell you, the actual voters, who is "unelectable"...they want to paint ME as elitist, but you know what, they forget that it is YOU ALL that decide, NOT them!" Their idea of who is "electable" is much of what is wrong in this country.

I think that would play VERY well...with a lot of folks.

i'm starting to feel better too...slowly...
i'd hate to be McCain in the next few weeks...

there's a an improving chance that John Cornyn is not long for the U.S. Senate...he's the guy from Texas who appears with McCain and his favorite pastor Hagee in the youtube video below, provided by BushBites...
Dem Rick Noriega is within 4 percentage points of Cornyn right now...

....and you thought we didn't live in a fascist state. mind you, subverting the constitution has been happening at a trickles pace. so slow, that we hardly notice, except maybe in those egregious times....

    On The Cedric Benson incident:
    ----------------------------
LCRA officials say they will not release any details about the Benson incident, beyond an arrest affidavit that was made public earlier this week, because Benson's first court hearing is pending for May 19.

But they deny police abused Benson or that he was singled out for special scrutiny.

"It's routine to stop people on the water for safety checks," said Krista Umscheid, an LCRA spokeswoman.

"It's not based on anything in particular that people are doing. The officers are not required to have probable cause to do an inspection."
