Obama and Pelosi, the only major American political figures to support Tibet.

China is on the cusp of some huge changes, the question is whether it will come through more bloodshed or if their leaders will actually follow the will of their people and the force of history.
Tibetans are being injured and killed while fighting for freedom.
Florida votes didn't count because they threatened to screw up the electoral process. Blame your local politicians. What was the gay vote going to do, anyway? There aren't any gay or strongly pro-gay candidates.
And conspiracy? I'm sorry, but democrats don't care about the gay community enough to go through all that effort.

Absolutely. There's money to be made. Which is why they're already dressing up Han in Tibetan garb to impress the tourists. And they're already keeping the tourists away from the real Tibetans. If you really want to experience Tibetan culture, go to one of the refugee camps in India.
As for the expected reprisals against the monks, we should remember that the monks are already being beaten, tortured, and arrested on a fairly regular basis. China has already stooped to kidnapping the Panchen Lama at the age of seven. At some point you have to stop worrying about reprisals and try to put a stop to the already deplorable situation. The monks have clearly reached that point, and they already know what will happen to them. You have to admire their bravery.
