AMERICAblog: Tibetan monks overtake staged Chinese media event

I guess they can't control EVERYTHING, eh?

The Han Olympics is blood stained and shameful as the 1936 Berlin Olympics were shameful before them.
  • shanobama · 1 year ago
Yes, the monks should be allowed their religious and cultural freedom. The Dali Lama should be able to visit or even live in Tibet. Why not? Do the Chinese want to become a Disneyland operator of Tibet? because people will stop going if this type of repression continues. My boyfriend went to Tibet years ago, I tell him I could not go now, no, not even on the new train.

Obama and Pelosi, the only major American political figures to support Tibet.

It's possible that the Beijing government does want to run a Disneyland in the mountains of Tibet. That'd be odd, wouldn't it? But the MSM likes it that way.

Is Mark Penn doing PR for the Chinese?

Good for them, but I fear for the reprisals.

China is on the cusp of some huge changes, the question is whether it will come through more bloodshed or if their leaders will actually follow the will of their people and the force of history.

I hope there is no a reprisal on these monks.

Kudos to the monks for taking on the Wal Mart backed junta

How can we worry about Tibet when our brothers and sisters in Florida are being disenfranchised. We should look at the log in our own eye rather than think of the speck in the eye of the Chinese. America can not be considered a Democracy if we just throw out 1.7 million votes in Florida. The reasons that the DNC give in 2000 are much slighter than what Katherine Harris and the Supreme court had in 2008. The votes do not belong to the Candidates or the party, they belong to the Citizens who cast them. And Florida is a heavily Gay State, Iowa, the first state, is the last in the Union in Gay population. Do you think that it is a coincidence that the DNC choses # 50 in percentage of Gay population to go first. http://www.gaydemographics.org/USA/states/iowa/...

Are you serious maxstar212? How can you even compare those two?

Tibetans are being injured and killed while fighting for freedom.

Florida votes didn't count because they threatened to screw up the electoral process. Blame your local politicians. What was the gay vote going to do, anyway? There aren't any gay or strongly pro-gay candidates.

And conspiracy? I'm sorry, but democrats don't care about the gay community enough to go through all that effort.

Boycott the Olympics, it can be done, and the Chinese government really needs embarrassment. It's a disgrace the US whores out to China like it does.

Those monks in the video, they are probably dead now. China doesn't mess around. They are our buddies now........

"Do the Chinese want to become a Disneyland operator of Tibet?"

Absolutely. There's money to be made. Which is why they're already dressing up Han in Tibetan garb to impress the tourists. And they're already keeping the tourists away from the real Tibetans. If you really want to experience Tibetan culture, go to one of the refugee camps in India.

As for the expected reprisals against the monks, we should remember that the monks are already being beaten, tortured, and arrested on a fairly regular basis. China has already stooped to kidnapping the Panchen Lama at the age of seven. At some point you have to stop worrying about reprisals and try to put a stop to the already deplorable situation. The monks have clearly reached that point, and they already know what will happen to them. You have to admire their bravery.

Monks are cool. We could learn a lot from a monk.

It is not just Tibet that is having issues with China. The Olympic Torch run here in SF will have many protesting. The biggest group will be the Darfur Coalition, protesting China's support of the Sudanese government.
