AMERICAblog: Tina Fey as Sarah Palin, or Sarah Palin as Tina Fey?

Yeah, I noticed that they used her direct quote on that bailout question.
Guess they couldn't improve on the absurdity of her original answer..

I noticed that when it was live.

She had five phrases she was told to us, and, by god, she was going to use them whether they answered the question or not. A friend said it was like talking to an Indian help desk person. If your question doesn't match the list of problems, you get five or six different possibilities, none of which make any sense to the real question or problem.

If McCain had any brains, he'd replace Sarah with the real thing, Tina Fey before Thursday night! Most of the fundies would never notice, and I'm sure I'D be more comfortable with Tina a heartbeat away from the presidency.
petefitSD

hadn't thought about that, but you're absolutely right; Ms Fey is intelligent, articulate and I agree she would be much more competent than gov palin; Tina would certainly be able to hold her own against Biden while the real Gov Palin is going to get her rear kicked

Hell Katie Couric is more qualified to be VP than Palin...
"Inside John McCain's campaign the expectation is growing that there will be a popularity boosting pre-election wedding in Alaska between Bristol Palin, 17, and Levi Johnston, 18, her schoolmate and father of her baby. "It would be fantastic," said a McCain insider. "You would have every TV camera there. The entire country would be watching. It would shut down the race for a week."

But, but, I thought the kids were OFF LIMITS? ;-)
cowboyneok
Yep, off limits if there is any negative news, huh? They can't have it both ways. If they are going to trot out the kids for points then they have to take their lumps when the kids screw up. Its another form of gaming the refs (media) and the Republicans perfected it with the Bu$h twins. By the way, remember when John McCain made nasty jokes about Chelsea Clinton? Chelsea NEVER did anything CLOSE to what the two out of control Bu$h twins did with their underage drinking and boy crazy behavior. She was a class act even as a young lady. The media never trashed McCain for his very nasty joke about Chelsea being the daughter of Hillary and Janet Reno!

I said it earlier and I'll say it again, this just proves even professional comedy writers can't make this crap up...

Pity the Alaskans when they get their Governor back.

I can't see a photo of Palin or Fey wihtout wondering which one it is.
Tine Fey should win another Emmy next year. The BEST political impersonation since Chevy Chase did Ford.

IF you ever thought McCain had the capacity for rational decision making, you must have abandoned that thought after McCain picked Moose Lady for the Vice Presidential side kick.

She still doesn't sound any stupider than Bush. Repigs love dumbass politicians who are unthreatening to their dumbass fundie mouth-breather base.

Really, just got it?
That's why it's an instant classic and the funniest and most astute politcial parody since Chevy did Ford, or at least since Dana Carvey did GBush Sr's "Thousand points of light" schtick.
Maybe, maybe not... but it's clear McCain needs a game-changer and this is as plausible as any scenario...

How about Co-VPs? Rudy, to shore up the borders, and Mitt, to shore up the economy. McCain shore is desperate. ;
blackwolf
If that happens, Joe Biden will take off the gloves and get nasty. Gulliani has no foreign policy experience anywhere near Bidens. The right is up against a wall on this one. Obama has already proved he can hold ground with McCain, and came out ahead in every poll. He won the debates in the minds of the MSM and the good folks of the US of A.
And, women would be pissed off because it would look like he tossed her like a rag doll. Obama would rip him on the judgment argument, and McCain would have to explain he made a mistake in front of the world.
Not good at this stage of the game. He'll keep her and go down with the sinking ship.
houstonray

I agree too. The more I think about it, the more I think that to do it now, would just tick off too many supporters in the party. Women especially, and even the Religious Right fundies, who would not want Guiliani, it's an almost guaranteed loss for the Repubs...
I think something will come up to keep her from the debates, THAT would not surprise me in the least....
cowboyneok

The Talibangelicals still love Sarah. They would go even more crazy than they are right now, and no one wants that!
blackwolf
I suspect they'll find some reason for her to default as well. That's bad for them, and good for us. The Obama team did a good thing. They announed to the media they thought her to be a competitive debater, and that they're thinking she will do well. Smart move! It raises the bar for Palin and eliminates the "low expectation" threshold that the right wanted to set for Thursday's debate.

Between McCain's time outs, game changing, and erratic behavior, this election is sure to be entertaining if not down right weird.
sukabi1

the only way McCain can change VPs at this stage of the game without totally blowing whatever credibility he has left, would be if Palin had some sort of "accident" that left her unable to hold office...
Anything other than that will just illustrate McCain's desperation and lack of judgement.
Juan Cole makes a great point here. He's talking about the polls after the debate:
"On national security issues it was a tie, which is, again, very bad news for McCain! Not so long ago the Republicans were attempting to portray Sarah Palin as having more executive and foreign policy experience than Obama! It was their hope that McCain would come across as a wise elder statesman and Obama as uninformed and naive. Instead, Americans see Obama as McCain's peer on foreign policy issues!"

It's still very strange to me that the Republicans came up with these two people -- out of all the people in the world. Talk about scraping the bottom of the barrel.
cowboyneok

Uh, they came up with Dubya and Darth Vader in 2000 and 2004 and it worked for them.

this brings home the thought I've had for the past number of years; somewhere in hollywood there is a coffee shop full of writers who are flummoxed b/c in their wildest imaginations they could not dream up the story lines that we have seen in national politics over the last 10 years: clinton-lewinsky shrub and the florida theft of the election the month-long vacation the first year in office the falsification of evidence against iraq 'bring em on' or 'dead or alive' Cheney shooting his friend in the face and now gov palin
kudo's to SNL, Ms Fey and the writers for their parody of Gov Palin; my favorite part was that it went beyond parody to outright mocking of her lack of intellectual depth and her naivete of serious international policy issues...too bad they were her actual quotes

You know what else was so ironic? The audience was cracking up laughing...all the while probably assuming that was comedy writing...I wonder how many realize they were almost her exact words??

Tina Fey also has down the media savvy distracting hand tricks Sarah learned in Broadcast Journalism 101 in one of the five colleges she attended. I find Sarah Palin's hand tricks meant to distract viewers from her lack of being able to string two thoughts together the most annoying. Its like, I get it Sarah, you twitch your hands around, do jazz hands and fluttering stabs at the air to get the sheep distracted while you rapidly throw out words and phrases that the McCain team has tried to pound into your brain for the past three days. Its not workin', hon. You are out of your league.

Out of the Bush league? Well out of the bush and into the tundra. Lets just hope that Tina Fey will be concentrating on 30 Rock in a few months time.

Here's my dream for the next 4 weeks: Palin stays on (please don't let her go) for her intrinsic entertainment value and shoots the campaign in the foot, over and over again, to our enjoyment. Election night comes, Obama blasts them out of the water, and we have both a victory AND a great 4 weeks to remember for years to come.
Naive, perhaps. Entertained, completely. Scared shitless things don't unfold like I suggested, ABSOLUTELY.

you know when McCain and Palin lose this, they should take their act on the road...

After the election, and she heads back to Alaska, my guess is her odds of a 2nd term as Governor are pretty much zero...
sukabi1
I think there's an effort to impeach her ass now... don't think she'll finish her term. She might have survived to finish it out, but McCain's team interjecting themselves into the troopergate investigation and taking over running of her office has pretty much killed that...
woodroad34

Don't worry, if the Republicans are hesitant to say anything public about the disaster that is Sarah Palin, I'm sure everyone else can step up to the bat and do the work for their lazy asses.

so my local news was just on... apparently the McCain camp can't trust Ms. Palin to speak for herself so they are trotting out her parents... There's supposed to be an interview tomorrow morning with them on one of the morning shows...

I saw that right away. I was shouting to my wife in hysterics. "They're using the actual transcript!"
It gives a whole new meaning to the comedy writing itself.
