NEW YORK - Mayor Michael Bloomberg urged Jewish voters to denounce the whisper campaign that for months has pushed the false rumor that Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is secretly a Muslim.
That accusation is vile on a number of counts. It is, of course, a lie. Second, Bloomberg points out, it drives a wedge between American Jews and American Muslims. I also find it very foul as it says there is something wrong with being an American Muslim, promoting hatred of Muslims. But, of course, such tactics seem to be part and parcel of the Republican, Right Wing and Karl Rove bag of tricks, exploiting the most vile, lowest, unAmerican, base, hateful emotions to win. It is an admission by their side that they are themselves part of that mold, and worst of all, fundamentally opposed to true American values.
So what if is Obama is a Muslim? Bullshit that Muslims can’t be good Americans. This is simply bigotry. Another words, Buddhists, Hindus, Catholics, (oh yeah, Mormons), N----s, Beans, Japs, Chinks, and Jews can’t be good Americans and are unfit to be president. Only WASPs are good Americans and are the only ones fit to be “our” president. Sick! Sick! Sick!
Truth is the Republicans have taken fundamentally anti-American values and twisted our perceptions so hatred, bigotry, greed and brutal abuse of our “enemies” and criminals are perceived to be core American values when, in fact, they run contrary to everything that the Founding Fathers intended for this nation. More than any other, Bush epitomizes this corruption of what are the very foundations of this nation. He is the mirror image of what he should be. Along the way to reversing everything we should believe in he also is a liar of the first magnitude. Remember about three years ago when he couldn’t open his mouth without using the phrase “Peace, Freedom and Democracy”? Yet, at the same time, he was the epitomized the exact opposite.
Oh yeah, don’t forget “That damn piece of paper.” Says it all doesn’t it.
