AMERICAblog: Tomorrow, Obama announces the National Security Team

Caroline Kennedy is much too private to subject herself to the hot house of politics. Nor will she submit herself to the ordeal of a Senate confirmation hearing. So, no Cabinet post and no appointment to the Senate. Ain't gonna happen.

Hillary doesn't want to be a senator, why would Caroline Kennedy? It really is a thankless, awful job.

I can't imagine Caroline Kennedy wanting to re-engage in politics that heavily--that's part of what made her endorsement during the Primary so important. She, as Oprah might say, stepped out of her pew for this once in a generation leader.
Besides, she wouldn't begrudge her cousin the opportunity to hold the seat his father once held.

what about the constitutional issues with Hilary and the new post, that I keep hearing about? is it just bunk or will there be problems?
green_libertarian

bunk. Plenty of precedent.

Obama picked an excellent team. I'm confident they can put the US back on track towards regaining the esteem and respect that Bush lost in one flick of a finger.
I'm all the more confident with the presense of Hillary Clinton and Gen James Jones. Both of them greatly respected the world over.
Congratulations.

We have a wide open border with Mexico and have been invaded by millions from that 3rd World sewer. We have no National Security.

Don't know about you, but I've been to Mexico. Wonderful people.

I don't know a single person who respects Hillary. I have thought she was a shill since 1992, with her ghost written books and wimpout re the health insurance issue. Then came the campaign, and what was past was mere prologue to the most despicable lies and racism in the primary. Every time I thought I had seen the lowest this woman could go, she surprised me again.
I think Barack should have taken a few days off to SLEEP and rest up before naming the cabinet. As a mother of twins who will attest to the ill effects of long term sleep deprivation (which must have been Obama's lot during the weeks leading up to the election), I think that this is an error of judgement on his part. It is like he was reading that Lincoln book on the plane rides, and in his exhausted state decided this was the thing to do, create this "cabinet of rivals".
It is funny though--in her lies about Kosovo, she said that "wherever it was dangerous to go, they sent the first lady". That was total bullmerde, of course, but it seems as though the SoS really does go to the hot spots. Maybe the Obama campaign decided to take her at her word and considered her experience "under fire" as relevant job experience.
Anyway, just think of the people who we could have had. I bet Shillary doesn't even speak any other languages, other than whatever satisfied the language requirement at Swellesley. This is such an unfortunate appt. She should have kept her carpetbag senate seat.

I've only read the first sentence of your post. "I don't know a single person who respects Hillary." How do you do. My name is Ritorna. I'm one of many millions who respect Hillary. Check out the vote totals from the Primary.

Once again I've only read part of your post, and didn't follow any of the links. Sorry, no disrespect toward you intended. It's just that I, as a Hillary supporter, got over her defeat in the Primaries, and threw my wholehearted support behind Obama. And even more important, Hillary did the same thing. Therefore I'm just not interested in reading anything from Obama supporters who, despite being victorious, are unable to put aside their bitterness, or even be gracious. Eight years ago it seems to me that the Democrats were very happy with the Clintons. It was the Republicans who hated the Clintons. I have had a great deal of difficulty fathoming the hatred for the Clintons that emerged among some Democrats this year, and I've decided to just let it go and not try to understand. I see it as a waste of time. Time to move on.

In praise of Caroline Kennedy, she doesn't need an ambassadorship or a senate seat. Caroline is the de facto head of Clan Kennedy and she passed the Kennedy mantle to Obama. It was hers from her father to pass and she did it. She's become the Irish Druidess her grandmother Rose was. Her place is in the lore and tradition, far loftier than any material post officials might offer.

Who will replace Spyboy Mueller at the out of control FBI? I have not seen any reports on the status of this willing fascist.

Hillary is an awful choice. Very disappointing.

I agree Jim. She's unqualified, and carries the BC baggage. Not a good decision by O-Man.

All Hillary all the time. So he annouces his cabinet and what does everyone talk about????Clinton of course--as she wishes it is alll about her all the time. To say that I am already tired of the appointments ---oh well won't watch and hope it blows oveer soon and she can go back like it was after the primary and we had a small respite from her on tv. Yuck this hit a strong cord with me and can not stomach it.---want to see some real progressives here but have a sick feeling it a'int gonna happen.

Perhaps you should withdraw your support from Obama, since Hillary is his choice. Clearly you don't respect his choices.

I'm not just dissapointed (have had MORE than enough of both Clintons to be totally frank. She lost me way back when she supported a "flag burning ammendment" (actually anit-flag burning). Then again in her bid for the candidacy.
But other than being totally fed up with her, and her politicism, I just don't GET her being head of State Department. As Jon Stewart (I know, he's not a reporter, but he showed the clips and I remember this discussion) pointed out, the ONE THING Obama most often omitted when naming things "we are pretty close on", was foreign policy. They were pretty much in agreement on domestic, etc., etc. but not on foreign.

The stress on post-conflict reconstruction in Susan E Rice’s expertise, and in the general Obama approach to foreign and security policy, is very timely, and not only because of Afghanistan and Iraq.
At this time when Keynes is flavor of the month in economic policy, it’s interesting to think how far our approach to post-conflict reconstruction has come since, at and after the Paris Peace Conference of 1919, he had to argue against a veangeful “peace” (on this, see J M Keynes, “The Economic Consequences of the Peace”, 1919, and D Markwell, “John Maynard Keynes and International Relations”, 2006).

I still think that John Kerry would have been a better bet. Our country has just become so asinine and stupid... 100% owned by the corporate war party! Maybe they didn't think Kerry was "cool" enough, nevermind that he's far more honest and an expert on foreign policy... nah, we prefer on the job training--no worries there! Hillary's ascent owes so much to her odd marriage to Bill Clinton, which I guess is the point...
Note how Rush Limbaugh is absolutely thrilled at the appointment of Clinton to SOS. That's quite an endorsement!
Besides, she wouldn't begrudge her cousin the opportunity to hold the seat his father once held.
