AMERICAblog: Top McCain aide says McCain won't die during his first term in office, and admits Palin isn't ready to be commander in chief

  • sukabi1 · 1 year ago
Ohhh, I'm so reassured that she'll be learning foreign policy from the "master"... the same "master" that thinks Afghanistan and Iran share a border... the same "master" that doesn't know that Czechloslavakia hasn't been a country for better than 20 years.... the same "master" that can't tell a shite from a sunni or shit from shinola? Yep, we should all be reassured now...
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
I was thinking the SAME THING! The "master"???!!!

McSame has REALLY proven his inability to make a good decision by choosing Palin. He couldn't have picked a worse chose to neutralize and REVERSE all the lines of attack they had made on Obama. For instance, even one of Charlie Black's 9/11 styled attacks would backfire on them now that he has chosen a complete neophyte. McSame certainly painted himself into a corner with this one. Man, what a GAMBLER! I hope to GOD he doesn't get a chance to gamble with our nation's future. Our nation just can't afford it.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
By the way, the rumor mill is that disgruntled Romney supporters are going to start their own PUMAR PAC - "Party Unity My Ass - Republican" because McSame made such a poor choice in choosing Palin. I know a lot of angry Mormons who were praying Romney would take over when McCancer drops dead and fulfill their Mormon prophecy that one of them will save our nation by a single thread. McCrazy really screwed up and is splitting Republicans. HOORAY!

"(*We had the two hour lunch with Bill Clinton two years ago, and when I worked on the Hill I attended a private sit down meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Yitzak Rabin in the early 90s. At the Rabin meeting, were only 8 or so of us in the room, and not enough chairs, so I was standing up against a wall, Rabin saw me, scooched over, and made me share the chair with him. I was mortified, and very impressed.)"

You do realize that you have more foreign policy experience in this one paragraph than Palin has had in 44 years....right?

Charlie Black? You mean Clinton/Ron Fournier Charlie Black?

If anyone can direct me to a Charlie Black quote over the past ten years that has been even remotely accurate, I'll buy you a bridge in Alaska.
  • Bubbles · 1 year ago
Will Mary Matlin join her staff? Will Palin be running the Pentagon out of the Vice President's office?

The wingnut Repubican party has an overwhelming manic quality to it. You have the diabolical gravitas of Cheney as the last Republican V.P. choice, and now you have the featherweight Palin. My guess is that in a Cheney vs. Palin match, Cheney just stares at Palin and she melts.

The V.P. was the office by which the Republican establishment remotely controlled the executive office.

I'm thinking now that after Obama's Thursday night performance, Romney and Pawlenty called McCain and said thanks, but no thanks, good luck with the campaign. McCain then had to go to the Republican bench and reached past AAA, AA, single A, right into the Rookie extended spring training league. Yeah, good luck with that John.

Maybe they'll cancel next weeks convention, and never reschedule it.

This is making a lot of perople nervous. You can loathe the Repbulicans, but there is always the hope that the enemy will put capable souls on the ticket. I've spent the better part of a day researching this woman's background. There's no experience that would make her qualifed to be #1 if the old man kicked the bucket--or even took ill.

I've been worried up and down since this thing started, but this has got me seriously worried.

I haven't laughed this hard since this morning when I heard the annoucement!

I read 'foot of the master' and Star Wars imagery popped into my mind as well. Of course Darth Cheney started my whole Star Wars Empire = Republican Party thing 8 years ago...
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
There is no better protection from assassination than having an inept VP. I read that in a fortune cookie.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
I have thought about this on and off all day. The Republicans are making the case that Palin has more executive experience than Obama. My thought is that while it is not easy to be a governor, it is easier to take a budget and red line items to reduce costs than say meet with Russia or Iran or Iran and negotiate peace. The woman has zero experience in this area and further she apparently is not adverse to using Cheney like strong arm tactics to get what she wants. This is very poor judgment on the part of McCain. And Charlie Black, as much as he would like to be, is no fortune teller. He has no idea what will or won't happen to McCain in four years.

So McCain has done even "more of same", like Bush he has (or will have if he wins) hired someone with no experience to head the second most important office in this country. How ironic that this announcement came on the anniversary of Katrina. Like Michael Brown, Sara Palin is not qualified for this office.
  • mirth · 1 year ago
McCain is a Dem operative working in the Rep party. His mission is to assure Obama is elected.

Have you thought about this? Hmmmmm?

I don't know why they didn't just pick Dora Explorer and explode our heads and they could have just walked in in January with no fuss and token opposition. Now it's just like a creeping dementia. How can he do this? What does it mean? Is it really Cheney in drag? Is it Ahmad Chalabi in drag? Is this how he sneaks Leiberman into office with him? Those two are creepy.

I agree. Something strange is going on here. The right wing media claim this choice "unified the party," but they would say that about any choice, out of defensive optimism. Maybe McCain got confused and picked her by accident.

Yeah, and the President (that can't think of a single mistake) wants to be elsewhere when it makes landfall. I thought waiting a week was the norm.
  • MommaKat · 1 year ago
Gustav's killing me, and I hold a great deal of animosity towards GWB for his inaction during and after Katrina. I went down with a group of nurses for disaster relief - we were given 6 hours to pack up and go, our credentials were faxed and emergency compact licenses issued by Louisiana. We were supposed to go to New Orleans Airport to help, landing in Lafayette, Louisiana with a National Guard escort in. The army turned us around at gun point stating it didn't matter that the state cleared us - FEMA had to clear our credentials and that would take thirty days. We got stuck at the hotel where we were sleeping on the conference room floor for the entire day, watching Bush on tv saying everything that could possibly be done was being done, that disaster relief workers were entering New Orleans as he spoke. Utter b.s. Lafayette's 90 minutes outside of New Orleans and we had to set up decontamination tents outside the hospital. Critical patients were never decontaminated, and the statement that there were no cases of cholera was a blatant lie. FEMA screwed up so bad we had to discharge patients to the streets, streets we didn't dare walk without a national guard escort. The hospital I was at still hasn't recovered (it suffered as a result of Rita as well) and now both Gustav and Hannah are tracking for the same spot. It kills me Bush is still in office to screw it up yet again. Those people deserve better, and while I appreciate the humor of your thought - I do so only very slightly. I don't give a rat's ass about GWB, McInsane or the RNC, but we should all pray Mother Nature votes inabsentia!

I think I understand McCain's rationale. Watch her interview with Larry Kudlow posted on ThinkProgress. She is obviously not very articulate, and a rather low-watt bulb. I believe the key to understanding why Bush got so many people to vote against their economic interest is a study showing that poor children are more likely to be made fun of by other children as being dumb. The Republicans think that if they nominate a running mate who has trouble stringing together an intelligent-sounding sentence, it will make the masses feel more comfortable with the idea of voting themselves into slavery.

  • Jim Olson · 1 year ago
Actually, I take that back. We need to take this VERY seriously. Sure, she is unqualified for the position, has no idea what the job entails, and is under investigation for corruption. None of that matters to Joe and Mary six-pack. She shoots a gun, fishes, has five kids and is "just like us" in the minds of many voters. Goes to church, is raising a disabled child, only has had one husband. And, she has high popularity ratings in Alaska, like 80% for 'cleaning up Government'.

If we, (and I mean the DNC, Obama, Biden and the liberal blogosphere) don't take this as a serious threat, by demeaning her and not taking the above mentioned criteria seriously, this one might just slip by us. Then we have Gov. Palin, with less than a year of executive experience, and NO foreign policy or military experience "learning on the job", not ready for day one if McCain should die.
  • BLOGGING BITCH! · 1 year ago

  • MommaKat · 1 year ago
Couple things are driving me nuts on this Palin thing. They're painting her as the quintessential soccer mom who just accidentally fell into politics. They mention PTA, city councilwoman turned mayor and then whammo - she's governor. Uh, no, they skipped over the failed attempt at Lt. Govenor in 2002 and the intervening years she spent in the following: Chairman, Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, 2003-2004 and Chair, Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission. She was pushed out of the first by the very same politicians she ran against with her clean up corruption campaign, and a number of stories linked her to big oil corruption, but the links died within an hour of the announcement of her as a VP candidate.

To the pregnancy for a sec. I heard Rachel Maddow and several others describe how her water broke just prior to a speaking even she attended in Texas, that she spoke anyway and then flew home to Alaska b/c she just had to make sure the baby was born there. Uh, that does NOT jive with medical care, progression of a normal pregnancy, and certainly NOT with premature labor. Flying would be contraindicated after rupture of membranes, so - just doesn't seem remotely possible as a real life scenario. Period. Now move to the announced 5th pregnancy at 7 months and no one noticed, then delivered child prematurely a few weeks later. If that's accurate, the delivery of a down's baby prior to 8 months gestation, again she would NOT be in a position to return to work three days later. Unless she left the baby in a level 4 NICU alone, or with her husband in same said place. Just does NOT make any sense...

fast forward to today. Baby is 4 months old now. Uh, even a mild spectrum down's infant is an extremely high needs child. How does she explain her ability to both run for VP and adequately provide for the baby's needs. Down's babies are very sensitive to absence of parents and have a high need for consistency and routine. Far too many questionable things here, not the least of which involve her ethics...
  • Ellie · 1 year ago
I've been wondering all of the same things. Makes no sense to me. Prayerfully, people will see through the BS.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
Good post! I am sure there will be more to come. I wondered about the "water breaking and flew home" that made absolutely no sense, even if she was on a private plane. Let's face it, when you have had four children do you really have that much time to fly from Texas to Alaska in active labor????

Sounds like something from Desperate Housewives.
  • MommaKat · 1 year ago
there's that, a fifth pregnancy labor goes very quickly. Then there's the restriction on flight in the third trimester for a NORMAL pregnancy, and in this situation we're talking premature labor with a known genetic defect that often includes respiratory issues at the time of delivery for the baby. If she's running on the everyday mom image that just isn't going to fly (no pun intended) because she knowingly endangered a high risk infant by flying home after her water broke. While I am a nurse, I'm not a labor and delivery nurse, but I'm pretty sure the negative air pressure combined with rupture of membranes could almost certainly lead to umbilical chord prolapse or compression, ultimately resulting in hypoxia (lack of oxygen) and brain damage.
  • sukabi1 · 1 year ago
I doubt that the airline would have even let her on board in that condition.... a 44 yr old woman, in labor, water broke, high risk pregnancy .... on a 7+ hour flight??? And her doctor would NEVER have allowed it.

The primary importance of a Vice President is being ready to become President tomorrow. Senator McCain should be asked why Sarah Palin is more qualified to be President than his other possible GOP choices. How is she more qualified than Mitt Romney, than Tim Pawlenty, than Charlie Crist, than Rudy Giuliani? He would be hard pressed to come up with answers that sounded anything other than ridiculous.

I am sure Rove feels that the Biden now can't go on attack in the VP debate. I mean she is a female so any attempts to expose her stupidity will be derided by the media as a sexist attack. Biden will have no where to go. On the other hand trying to get her knowledge to the point where she can at least articulate an answer will require a brain transplant. She knows nothing about nothing.
It is obvious Rove was involved in the choice, but the only logic that was being used was that the Democratic duo is so strong and the experience of Biden trumps any attempt to go after Obama on experience. It does give the Repubs the female vote, they think.
What it really says it that the role of President and Vice President in the Repubs eyes are meaningless. Just as it has been throughout Bush's 8 years. Rove, Cheney and the cabal will continue to control the oval office and everything we do if McCain should get elected. They now have two people with no experience on a single thing except crashing jets, using your position to exert the will of big business and a VP who doesn't know what her job entails. What could be better for the lobbyists, gun nuts, evangelicals. In short order they will have McCain's signature on a rubber stamp to take the exertion out of him signing it himself. Then he can go to one of the 9 homes. I wonder which one will become the Western White House. No place to cut brush and entertain Puutti-Puut. This is like an episode of Reno 911 where you have total incompetents running a sheriff's office unfortunately it is the U.S. I would laugh my ass off but I am crying too hard to switch gears.

What make eerie sense, in this nonsensical picture, is a comment I read to the effect that Palin is a stepford type, engineered by the insiders to continue the reign of Republican corporate control of our lives. Who can doubt that Rove would have no problem going there?
