AMERICAblog: TPM: White House staffers warn groups not to spend money pushing public option

  • mwfolsom · 3 months ago
We really need to get past the idea that its all Rahm's fault. Obama hired him and knew exactly who he was when he did so -

Our problem is with Obama not Rahm. Obama is the one that has turned his back on the progressives, the lesbians, the gays and all those folks that really wanted to see health care and banking reform. Rahm is a tool that's all - our anger needs to be directed where it should go and that's at Obama.

Obama isn't our friend - he used us and now has decide to make fools of us. Until we return the favor he doesn't have to show us any respect. Our energy now needs to be focused on destroying the Obama/Big Pharma/Insurance Company bill. We kill this bill and Obama and the rest of the Democratic Power structure will have a new found respect for the party's progressive base.

This White House has become the enemy of real health care reform and now they are trying to bully the left action groups. It's time to fight back and make our voices louder. Are we going to let the staff at the White House make this decision? The single-payer health care plan is NOT dead until the people say so and that is not going to happen. We want single-payer health care and we need democrats, republicans, independents and others to rally around single-payer health care and make plenty of noise. We are NOT going to "sit down and shut up" any more. Rahm, you need to go. You and anyone else on your staff standing in the way of real health care. Just because you guys love to suck up to the big health insurance industries and the pharmacy industries doesn't mean you speak for the citizens of this country. Enough, get out and go home, you are not wanted. Obama is making an huge mistake keeping you in a position where you can cause harm.

I've got a much better idea, not one cent for Obama's re-election campaign fund, not one red cent for the blue dogs. I've got to spend my money on ads for single payer, and for primary challenges to every fool who doesn't support the public option. And a primary challenge for Obama.
  • ComradeRutherford · 3 months ago
Yet more evidence that Obama does NOT support the Democratic Party, it's principles and values.

Everyone seems to keep on pretending that Obama is somehow a Democrat and will fight for the values of the Democratic Party.

WHY does anyone ever believe that?

And here's Joe claiming that it's Rahm doing this, but Obama still wants to do the right thing.

    I say:
Whereas, Obama's staff is spending many, many labor-hours fighting against the Progressives and the Democratic base,

Whereas, Obama is meeting with Republicans to enact their demands over those of the people that voted for him,

Whereas, Obama has continued some of the grossly illegal and unconstitutional activities and directives of the Bush Administration,

Whereas, it is OBVIOUS that Obama is NOT a member of the Democratic Party and is NOT fulfilling the obligations of a Democratic President,

Whereas, it is clear that Obama is strictly enacting solely what the Republican Party allows him to,

Be it so RESOLVED that Obama is NOT a Democrat and is indeed and in word a Republican Party operative acting on the orders of the GOP leadership.

Be it further resolved, that the Democratic Leadership, including - but not limited to - Pelosi, Reid and others in Congress, are also NOT Democrats but GOP operatives masquerading as Democrats.

    + + + + +

But seriously folks, the sooner everyone embraces the OBVIOUS, the sooner we can get something done, like replacing the sell-out Dems with actual Democrats that will do in Congress what their constituents want them to, NOT what those that are bribing them.

OBAMA IS NOT A DEMOCRAT, HE WILL NEVER FIGHT FOR ANYTHING THE DEMOCRATS EXPECTED OF HIM.

Just get that through your thick skulls and we might just be able to DO something!

So I guess the public option for Federally recognized married gay couples serving openly in the military is out of the question.
  • Butch1 · 3 months ago
If it's up to Rahm it will be.
  • synical · 3 months ago
I wonder if this should be called the "Orahma Administration" or the "Rahmbama" Administration?

I know! For the hours they are for the public option and "Make me do it." it will be "Orahma". For the hours they are not for the public option and are shouting, "Shut the fuck up, you stupid liberals, you are ruining *everything*, it will be "Rahmbama".

Funny, but I don't remember donating to or voting for a guy named "Rahm" back in November. You'd think I'd remember something like that. Hmmm.
  • JustAGuy · 3 months ago
I call him "Rahmpelstiltskin". When threats and intimidation don't get him what he wants, he throws a tantrum.

    -S

Here's what needs to happen. Somebody with some credibility needs to create a fund where people who want a public option (or single payer, as I do). People donate to that fund. The receiver of the funds airs advertisements and wages a campaign. If everyone who wants a public option donated $5, we'd drown out evil Rahm.

Why don't you send the money to Rep. John Conyers for his HR 676.

    http://www.johnconyers.com

You might want to send more like $50 if you can. (you'll get a T shirt)
  • Biggus Diggus · 3 months ago
Rahm loves making deals. That's what he and his Hollywood agent brother do. So Rahm is like a real estate agent. He doesn't care what the deal is; he just want to make the deal.
  • rayso · 3 months ago
Don't forget the other brother Ezekiel Emanuel, who is also a chief white house adviser on health care.
  • TheOriginalLiz · 3 months ago
Bottom line - Obama and company have sold out the people gullible enough to believe his lines. I feel like a complete sucker for falling for his promises.
  • RitornaVincitor · 3 months ago
It good to see the Obama administration finally showing some courage and standing up to its critics. Now if we can just convince them to do the same to the Republicans.
  • JohnnyG · 3 months ago
Centrist, "post-partisan" Obama wanted a Chief of Staff who would throw a screaming hissy fit whenever liberal groups tried to push back. Emanuel's only doing what Obama hired him to do.
  • Indigo · 3 months ago
    So far, all we've learned is that Rahm's a screamer. Okay . . .
  • JohnnyG · 3 months ago
And that it has virtually nothing to do with Obama...
  • Indigo · 3 months ago
Exactly! I suspect it's all about Rahm and his theatrics. When Obama appointed Rahm, I was enthusiastic because Rahm's family has an outstanding liberal resume. Grandpa was a gun runner for Israel in the early days! Woo-hoo! I admit now that Obama confused me, I thought he was appointing a chip off the old block, not a hissy-fit queen without portfolio.
  • JohnnyG · 3 months ago
I was being sarcastic, in-line with what I thought you were saying. It's not all about Rahm at all, Obama hired him and he continues his employment. Obama is the ultimate power in the white house and that's where the buck stops. Nothing irritates me more than the attempt to shift blame to Rahm. Not because I like Rahm, but Obama's his freaking boss and he approves of anything Rahm does otherwise he could've fired him long ago.
  • Indigo · 3 months ago
Well, sure.  Thing is, Rahm seems to have considerably more leeway to shoot off his mouth than is good for Obama.  Does Obama know that?  Maybe not.
  • Butch1 · 3 months ago
Do all ex-ballet dancers, like Rahm scream and swear?
  • FunMe · 3 months ago
Rahm and Obama are not lovers ... as far as I know.

(maybe spreading rumors will help Obama get rid of him).

    hehe ;-)
  • Butch1 · 3 months ago
We know at least one of them is homophobic.
( I wonder which is the "top?" Oh, it has to be "on-point" Rahm. ) ;-)
  • Indigo · 3 months ago
I wonder . . . would it be worth the effort involved to do the on-location research?
  • Butch1 · 3 months ago
I'm not sure I could handle all the screaming. ;-)
  • Indigo · 3 months ago
    L.O.L. !  and we've got the inside scoop on who the screamers are . . . (^_^)   [ = inscrutible expression ]
  • Butch1 · 3 months ago
We do and one of them has "potty-mouth" when the diva doesn't get "her" way. ;-)
  • rayso · 3 months ago
    I kissed one once.
  • Butch1 · 3 months ago
Did they scream? Don't hold back. ;-)
  • rayso · 3 months ago
It was a girl. She was well behaved. But I was young...
  • Butch1 · 3 months ago
    I wouldn't hold that against you. ;-)

Basic physics: 'Every action has an equal and OPPOSITE reaction.'

    This will backfire big time.
  • popebuck1 · 3 months ago
Rahm Emanuel, it would seem, is a very useful "bad cop" to Obama's "good cop." Of COURSE Obama shares all our views on everything from LGBT rights to ending rendition to a strong public option - it's just that mean nasty Rahm Emanuel won't stop interfering!

So Emanuel ends up taking the blame, and Obama's hands remain clean when he ends up basically walking back his entire campaign platform. Pretty good scam they've got going there.

Against all odds, I STILL want to believe Obama really is on our side, but he's making it more and more difficult to keep it up.

This kind of news from the UK doesn't help:

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/61...

"In a letter to The Daily Telegraph, a group of experts who care for the terminally ill claim that some patients are being wrongly judged as close to death.

Under NHS guidance introduced across England to help doctors and medical staff deal with dying patients, they can then have fluid and drugs withdrawn and many are put on continuous sedation until they pass away."

"The scheme, called the Liverpool Care Pathway (LCP), was designed to reduce patient suffering in their final hours.

It was recommended as a model by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (Nice), the Government’s health scrutiny body, in 2004.

It has been gradually adopted nationwide and more than 300 hospitals, 130 hospices and 560 care homes in England currently use the system.
    "
