We can do it. Yes we can.

Let's start this change machine by rewarding backstabbers with high level chairmanships.

    REMOVE JOE THE BUMMER
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
This sucks. Now we'll have to wait 'til 2012 for payback and the Dems will still be fighting us.

Obama will regret this. Lieberputz stabbed Clinton in the back when he was president,. I expect him to do the same to Obama.

Barack: Don't say you weren't warned.
  • BorninUSA · 1 year ago
If the Dems had any backbone they would make their vote public not secret. Lieberman will be given a slap on the wrist and will maintain his chairmanship. But unless they come forward we will never know who voted to allow this to happen and who voted against it. If Lieberman is allowed to stay how long before he once again shows his true alliance and what will the Dems do/say then?
  • red_dwarf · 1 year ago
Exactly. That's why its secret - they're spineless.
  • vkobaya · 1 year ago
If Lieberman were a Republican and pulled this shit on that party, he would be in the Potomac river, either floating down the river as an object lesson or wearing cement shoes. Either way, he would have several big holes in his body, 44 or 45 caliber.
  • BroD · 1 year ago
Allowing Lieberman to continue can only be translated as an emphatic "F.U." to all the volunteers who made 11/4 happen.
  • Older_Wiser · 1 year ago
I'm so disappointed in the "kinder and gentler" Dems who are letting LIEberman off the hook...

Meanwhile, looking the top ad on this page for the Ford "Flex" crossover vehicle which boasts "seating for 7", I was wondering: how many people do you see driving SUV hogs who have more than one passenger, at best? I've seen 4 in one maybe, I say maybe, a couple of times, but even 4 could fit in my little 4 banger quite comfortably.

And Detroit is still turning out Hummers...I've never seen more than one person in those.

I think it's more like "seen and be seen in your SUV" than anything else. Ego rules, and so does trying to best the Joneses, around here, anyway.
  • cab02149 · 1 year ago
Having begun as a Jeep offshoot by Lee Iaccoca, meaning "off-road-ish", Detroit drooled at the thought of dressing up cheap trucks. Detroit skillfully moved the market to the point that "99% never left pavement". Early on, these behemoths would be regularly found crashed onto the sides of snowy highways. Why? The drivers drove these as if they were unaffected by snow. What the newcomer to "old"-offroad-style" 4 wheel drive didn't know was that heap could kill you. Its 4 wheel drives were meant for pulling; for temporary use. It took detroit 20 years to create proper designs. In '73 the Arabs stopped selling us gas. A nightmare time. The Japanese econoboxes took off in sales. Meanwhile Detroit "detuned" every product. So much that performance degraded seriously, the engines knocked constantly. Detroit has just begun to compete. 30 years have gone by. Are we stupid or what? What?

Ex-CIA Officials Tied to Rendition Program and Faulty Iraq Intel Tapped to Head Obama’s Intelligence Transition Team

"There is only one political party in the U.S., the Money Party." - Gore Vidal
  • Older_Wiser · 1 year ago
    I love Gore Vidal.

But shit, and double shit...for me, the honeymoon is over before it begins. I'll just sit by the sidelines from now on.

I mean, is this what Obama means by "bipartisan? that is, naming both Clintonites and Bushites to important positions. Where's the fucking change?
  • red_dwarf · 1 year ago
I love Vidal too - during one episode of Crossfire he kept referring to Tucker as "bow-tie boy".

Here's what I don't understnad O_W. Lieberman protected Bush from being investigated - thereby becoming a party to criminal activity - he had a constitutional duty to do so on the oversight committee, which he didn't exercise. Secondly, not only did he campaign against Obama but he called Obama a "Marxist". We could go on. Now, I believe that Obama's strategy of keeping his enemies closer then his friends is workable in principle - but you do not reward someone like Lieberman with a powerful chairmanship in which he has already proven his failure. Better to have let him keep his minor chairmanship or none at all.

That Lieberman paid NO consequences for his traitorous actions speaks volumes about the courage of the Democrats. By cow-towing to one man the Dems has sent a clear signal that they stand on NO principles.
  • vkobaya · 1 year ago
I keep hoping he is doing as Lincoln did, keeping his enemies close. Then again, that is what resulted in his assassination. If Obama's intent is do the same, he risks the same result.

Wise old saying: Don't keep doing the same thing over and over and expect different results.
  • aravir · 1 year ago
Joe, tell the DSCC for me that if Lieberman keeps his chairmanship, while Al Franken loses by hundreds of votes, I consider that a twofer, and will not contribute to the DSCC in 2010. Edit: I already did; never mind.

    Morning All

    Question:

Is it time to turn the tables on the far right wing, christian fascist out there by starting a movement to do away with the marriage License in favor of a universal Civil Union License. Thus leaving the question of marriage to the individual churches where it belongs. Some of whom will offer marriage to the community and many who will not.

After all, the reasoning behind the marriage license was the need for an additional revenue and later the need to support the heath of the nation.

It would in fascist solve the problem while also granting equality to all!

    Just a through or two...
  • triple7s · 1 year ago
Absolutely, come on now, marriage is a joke to religion. NO ONE means TILL DEATH DO US PART, SO HELP ME GOD. It's a "fairy tale", with chances of divorce at better than 50%, I mean, come on. Give EVERYONE civil, equal protection under the LAW.
  • cab02149 · 1 year ago
This would sustain two groups prepared to defend their positions or fight each other.
Support of social tolerance and "live and let live" should be uppermost in all changes like that.

Paulson said this morning that the auto industry is a major industry, but they should only be bailed out if it can be shown that a bailout will put the auto industry on a road to sustained viability. @#$@%^&!!! Bling, blang, blung!!! May he rest in hell forever! What a parcel of shit! Another words, it is okay to pour a couple trillion dollars down the rat hole called Wall Street because that is his rat hole, but salvaging the auto industry is a bad idea because of the idiots in the auto industry. I ask you, have we seen any evidence that all the money dumped into the laps of the assoes on Wall Street has shown any evidence that even one of those companies has yet been really salvaged. Citi Bank is now headed down the tubes after being held up as an example of how they do things right. AIG needs another $25 billion infusion of cash having blown their first bailout on partying and junkets. Name one Wall Street finance company that was saved and on the road to sustained viability. One of the other companies just announced they are withholding bonuses and restricting compensation to contracted salaries ... because they are still going down the tubes.

The real reason the Rethuglicans are opposed to saving the auto industry is that the auto industry employs millions and millions of union members and they don't want to see the auto industry survive because the failure of that industry will destroy those unions. Another words, they want to wreck the lives of millions and millions of American workers as it will damage the Democratic party base.

Amy Goodman said on her show this morning that the true cost of the bailout, that is, the total spent so far on the Wall Street bailout is $4 trillion, which, adjusted for inflation is more than the cost of WW II. My guess is that at least a trillion or so of that money is lining the walls of the Bush bunker in Paraguay. When Hitler died in his bunker, at least his bunker was in Berlin, the German capital. Bush's hideout is in a foreign country. Says a lot about the the loyalty, patriotism and character of this man.

WHEN is Paulson going to be CHARGED with FRAUD, THEFT, CORRUPTION, and TREASON? The man is despicable.
  • cab02149 · 1 year ago
Joe can't loose. I repeat , he will take his fabulous pension, healthcare and "Winnings" and fade into the sunset when his term is up. How much shit do we tolerate which is coming at us from every direction before we really go to work together to figure out ways to get us moving right? We are drowning in shit from every institution, every source of influence. We have allowed them to expand their power and influence over our lives.
We live among the few, the powerful, the wealthy, sucking up our air we breathe their exhaust. We are not organized for action and must get to it. It should begin with groups of 5 people. forming a PAC. Select a spokesman. 5 spokesmen form a PAC. Interlock

That was cool, so now you are video blogging??

You trying to usurp the 44thPrez's video messaging scheme?

I'm gonna have to learn to do this. But now I gotta buy a camera.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Yea, video blogging! Built in camera in my PC and had tried it some time ago, and it didn't work. I guess the bugs are worked out via "Seesmic?" Anyway, it works! I'm trying to limit video blogging to those issues I feel real strongly about. I'm beyond disgusted Lieberman got a slap on the wrist, but its Obama's administration. He's the man, right now. As long as traitor Joe behaves from now on then its fine with me. As soon as he steps out of line it will be the whole "past is prologue" lesson all over again.

    DEMO Caucus: "Illigitimi carborundi!"

Today we learn whether the DINOs♥ Joe or the DEMOs rule. Either way, the New Depression deepens.

    Good morning.

circa 8-9,000 people foreclosed on yesterday, for whatever reasons (we don't have government statistics on that).

Another 32-36,000 by the end of this week's Senate session.

Carry on "Washington" ... (I guess?).

And the status quo lives on, I think we deserve an explanation from Obama if he is supporting leibermannn.....

I doubt we will hear one.

Obama's First Big Mistake on the Job
    Rescuing Joe Lieberman

    By DAVE LINDORFF

The word is that Barack Obama, in keeping with his promise of a new post-Bush/Cheney era of “civility in government,” is telling Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid not to eject the treacherous Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) from the Democratic caucus.

This is a terrible mistake. Joe Lieberman is a wretched example of a man without principle—a back-stabbing slimeball of a politician whose only allegience, apparently, besides to himself, is to Israel.

Now I don’t want anyone to think I’m some rabid anti-semite. My wife and kids are Jewish, we have good friends who are Israeli, and no, I don’t think the Jews run the media or the country. I do, however, think that Joe Lieberman thinks more about what, in his warped and shriveled worldview, is good for Israel, than about what is good for America.

  • missmarple · 1 year ago
I'm simply disgusted! I was looking for great things to happen when I voted - but we're back to the same old same old! Lieberman is a rat and should be treated as one , but here we have Obama and Co fawning all over him. I'm glad that I'm old and won't be around too much longer - it's our kids that I worry about.

    Dear Americablog,

I'm a gay man, living with my partner of 3 years in Denver, CO. I was turned onto your blog sight about 6 months ago and have been a rabid reader, checking several times aday, ever since.

I would first like to acknowledge that compared to the various opinions and careers of you who post here...I have a very rudimentary understanding of political processess...but this is what I've been thinking over the last couple of days and I need some guidance.

While I certainly believe in the equality of all and am OUTRAGED at what has happened with Prop 8. in CA, I feel like I need to urge people to simmer down and be patient. I do think that the CA Supreme Court will overturn that travesty of justice.

But more to the point, I hope the people do not turn on Barack Obama in his first term in their zeal to gain marriage equality. So much more needs to be accomplished first, it seems to me. With the economy and the wars...environmental concerns...I'm just worried that if those things don't take priority, so that all the bigots and anti-obama folk out there don't SEE some real change, and then WE turn on him...there could be some serious repercussions mid-term and 4 years down the road.

I'd rather see marriage equality be one of the first issues he tackles in his SECOND term, after a Supreme Court appointee or two, and some major CHANGE under his belt...am I off-base here?

    Please advise...thanks
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
I want the courts to overturn it. Obama needs to just ensure he appoints progressive fair minded judges who believe in civil rights for the LGBT community.

I DO want Obama to allow gays and lesbians to serve openly in the military. That is one positive step he can take to show he means business when it comes to gay civil rights issues. There is no good reason to continue to discriminate against us in the military from serving openly and honestly.

Pressure needs to be put on Lieberman to behave. They say he's become rather unpopular in Connecticut. Can Senators be recalled? How about a nice recall campaign to get the smarmy Senator to play nicer?
