Bush's America: a mix of the maudlin piety of Bedford Falls and the vicious unfettered capitalism of Pottersville.

If that could happen, Clarance would SHOVE Bush off that bridge in Bedford Falls and get his wings right then and there.

Sorry to be picky, but "Its a Wonderful Life" is my all time favorite. It was George Bailey who was shown how the world would be different if were not around. Harry Bailey was his brother.

my all time favorite too. I wasn't quite sure what he meant or was saying. But the thought of what the world would be like today if Gore had become President, well, it just makes me weep.
There is one small comfort coming from this experience, if any, and that's the discrediting of the far right wing reactionary movement in our society. That's if our society (and the global economy) survives what its passing through. It's very possible that it might not. Anyway, if Gore had been elected they would, in all likelyhood, be alive and well and still leathal. Hopefully, that which doesn't kill us, makes us stronger.

Check out this video on Youtube. Sounds like both Canada and the US are preparing for something big sometime after the 1st of the New Year. Any blog readers from Canada here to confirm what is being said in this video?
bull! i live in toronto canada and have not seen any military buildup anywhere and my folks live Edmonton out west and have not see anything either. what happened in our parliement was pure coincidence. STephen harper won a strong minority mandate to form a government . He miscalutated that the opposition, coming from a thumping in the election, was too weak to challenge any of his initiatives. he tried to push ultra conservative bills through such as limiting the ability for women to sue for pay discrimination and cutting off funding to the major political parties. he didn't count on the liberal party, the new democratic party and the bloc quebecois to form a coalition that would give them parliamentary majority. Canada being a parliamentary democracy, the governor general and not stephen Harper, agree to prorogue parliament to allow stephen harper present a new budget when parliament is seated on january 27th. if this budget is voted down in parliament then the governal general will either ask stephen harper to resign and the new coalition to form the next government until an election can be held or she can call another election which is unlikely. either way this is all consitutional and that video is load of crap. Canada and the U.s already have military agreements (there is a NORAD wing in western Canada and we're both part of Nato and as such an attack on one is an attack on all). nothing new here. there is nothing to fear but fear itself. Go Obama!!!

People, we are in Pottersville! Time to do something about it. GWB is going back to his gated community. We have a chance to turn things around now.

Not "A Wonderful Life" but "A Christmas Carol." BushCo. as Scrooge; but instead of quaking at the emptiness and horror of his life, he'd cackle and dance and beg to see more.

I think Bush is more like the "Pearl Harbor" moment in WWII for Democrats.
Things had to get THAT bad before a lot of people got involved - and hopefully, 50+ years from now, people will still remember Bush in the same way we remember Pearl Harbor. A horrible tragedy that allowed America to be looked up to by the world for 2 generations based on what we did NEXT. (Ok. Korea and Vietnam, not our greatest moments...but you get the idea)

Perhaps Obama will be Marlowe, traveling the Potomac to reach Kurtz (Bush), into the Heart of Darkness that DC has become--the jungle of political savages? The skulls of the American people have decorated DC for too many years...with a version of that tragedy occurring in Iraq, exported by one who could never leave well enough alone and never recognized that civilization is here in the "undeveloped" and supposedly politically naive rest of the country; in a word, the "People".
To paraphrase him, "I'm just the simpleton president..."

the analogy works except for the part where Bush feels despondent. bush avoids seeing the catastrophe of his life by traveliing in his mind back to 1969 and to his secret society days at yale.

Ahhh yes - The Bush and his not-so-sober rib have purchased new digs in Highland Park Texas. (Dallas)
Did the secret service vet this area thoroughly?
Cedar Springs borders HP to the south is one of the gayest and gay friendly places to reside outside of S.F.
Village Station should invite the Bush's on drag night. Wooooh Woooh! (arms in the air). Hell, the patrons threw rotten fruit at Boy George back in the day for arriving late.
My bride and I hold fond memories of Cedar Springs, use to walk my little dog in the HP neighbrhood freely. Those days will be gone.

Jake Heilbron at HuffPo:
"Obama is reportedly considering creating an energy czar. Gore would be the logical pick. As czar he would be able to help oversee the Transportation department, the Interior department, and the Environmental Protection Agency. He would have a powerful voice over everything from mileage standards to conservation requirements. Even as the Bush administration continues to try to gut regulations such as restrictions on mining and drilling in Utah's most pristine national parks, it must be awfully tempting for Gore to have the chance to put rhetoric into action."

My partner made me watch Bush talk last night on Nightline about religion! He absolutely makes me sick. He was trying so hard to portray himself as a deeply religious man and all I could think about is how he lied, and trampled on the constitution to get what he wanted. He was pathetic....he has been responsible for 8 years of devastation and now he is trying to portray himself as a humble and thoughtful man.

People like George Bush are the same ones who will attend Sunday services, be pious in the pew AND then mow you down with their car while trying to be the first one out of the parking lot.

George Bush as George Bailey would've smirked at Zuzu's petals, thrown them on the ground, considered them "sissy" or something.

There probably would have been no 9/11 either, because Gore would not have tossed aside a report entitled "Bin Laden Determined to Strike Inside U.S," and no Iraq war, and no gazillion-dollar deficit.

Almost surely, if Gore had taken office in 2000 the US would more closely resemble the country we used to know than it does now. But I also wonder if Obama would be taking office next month had Gore been president for the last eight years.

Gore did not carry Tennesee... Gore conceded way to early... Gore was beaten by a bum... What does this say for Gore?
