maybe Obama should just do ads attacking Rove. He's the one running the racist, lying campaign. At least put his doughy face up there with McCain and Bush. Then you could impugn McCain's judgment for using Rove.
along these lines, this is interesting. from TPM... Mrs. Greenspan wonders, Is McCain so honorable yet so out of it, he doesn't know what Rove et al are doing in his name? Rove needs to be dragged out from under his rock and held to account. http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/207023.php

It's not that the rePiglicans know how to run a successful smear campaign, its the fact that we no longer have a FREE PRESS. Our founding fathers warned us that when a vigorous Press no longer exists, our Democracy is gone. That's why Free Speech and Freedom of the Press is in the 1st Amendment - the Press should be the watchdogs over government abuse, report the truth, etc.
In a true Democracy Rovian tactics would be rejected by the Press outright. But we no longer have a Democracy, fair voting, etc. These fascist bottom feeders are going to steal the third presidential election in a row - all they need is a close race - and the whore Press will assure that to be the case. Its all rather simple actually. Our only hope is a massive turnout by the Dems - which (hopefully) will make it obvious that the election was stolen.

Then your hope is futile. Do you think Obama really wants a massive, grassroots, truly democratic movement? Do you think Obama wants a real democracy in this nation? I hope so, but think that is a futile hope. Everything I've seen indicates that this asso is another plutocrat, he just wears sheep's clothing. The only reason to vote for him is he isn't Bush or the Bush clone. That is also weak as the argument that McCain is a Bush clone is false. But what we really mean if we weren't over-simplifying things so much is that McCain is still a disgusting, crooked, lying, murdering Republican ... sigh, not that Pelosi and Reid and most of the Damnocrats in Congress weren't complicit with the Bush/neocon crimes. It's the best of two bad choices, with both of the very, very evil and difference very, very small. The real difference is one side lies and pretends to be on our side while the other doesn't even bother to lie but outright gives us the finger.

It does appear that the country has been sold out. In the future, when historians are pouring over this "fascist" period in American history, they will find both sides complicit in all the crimes committed. This will be especially evident in the fact that if Obama wins he will not pursue the truth about 9-11, nor pursue the criminals of the Bush administration (who will all be pardoned), nor do I have faith Obama will try and restore the Constituion - it is true, a vote for Obama is a vote against the lying rat bastard McShank - but Obama is cut from conservative cloth - and there is not a single doubt in my mind that he will protect and cover-up the crimes of the last eight years.
It may work for now, but like I said, in the future historians will dig out the truth - and they will be shocked (perhaps not) that the American people were nothing more then sheep. What will it take to bring down a fascist government? History tells us total war is the only method. Let's hope it doesn't come down to that - but in the end, the upper 1% may find war an acceptable solution.

here comes the next smear...designed to inflame the Catholic vote. who'll be out front on these talking points? Newt again? Rush?
I knew that it was going to get rough, what I did not expect is the lack of response from the Obama camp. Reminds me of when Muhammad Ali would do the rope-a-dope when he was facing a strong hitter such as Frazier and Foreman. I just pray that Obama like Ali can take a punch and tire out his opponent.

You are right Joe. They are certainly Masters when it comes to vicious attacks, lying, and bringing down their opponents. Haven't we seen it all, these past few elections? They do not have a leg to stand on, when it comes to governing, and steering this country in the right track. They have always failed miserably, and left the country in a mess, and huge deficits. Ultimately, it takes a Democratic president, to clean up this mess, and bring the country out of misery. The sad thing is, the American people NEVER learn from past mistakes. They are so gullible, and are taken in by this nonsense, again, and again. What can McCain run on? He is running mostly on Bush's failed policies, and it is now known that Bush and Cheney lied, and took us into this bloody war, which McCain supports, and yet polls show that many people, want to continue on this failed path. Unbelievable.

it's not a lack of response from Obama. As Red Dwarf says in comments, the media just doesn't get it. They are often biased, they can't keep up and they are a huge part of the problem.
Breakfast TV Talking Heads: Bob Novak: boy, they sure broke the mold; a bold reporter who always told the truth, regardless of anyone's ideology. Why, he even got in Newt Gingrich's face! So sad, really. That Bill Clinton just can't get over Hillary's losing: why won't he get on board with Obama? How cool does McCain look all in denim at the Harley Jam?! A real American icon, in front of 50 thousand revving hogs--something real, normal Americans can relate to instead of a presumptuous wanna be in a two thousand dollar suit in front of a Berlin monument (and only that paranoid Bob Herbert sees that as a phallic symbol: what is it with these black guys?). No matter that McCain's little speech about energy in Sturgis was inarticulate and incoherent; those Harley riders don't take a shine to some guy with a complicated energy plan; they wanna drill NOW!

McCain/Rove is succeeding in making the election a referendum on Obama. what Obama has to do it make it a referendum on Bush/McCain. and the so-called Democratic "leaders" need to step up and speak out...seems like Obama is out there on his own. i realize that the volume will turn up after the convention, but good dawd, where the hell have they been?

andrea mitchell(i am not sure of her spelling) was on hairball, i mean spitball, i mean tinyball, i mean hardball yeah that's it hardball, last night and she said that they-his campaign managers- are keeping john mcCain in a bubble. they are not telling him the whole story or only part of the story. he does not seem to know that obama changed his position on oil drilling. they are keeping mcCain away from the press. this reminds me of ronald reagan when he had lost his mind and they protected him from the press. i wonder..................................

Good point Helena. McCain's camp brought up some 1920's communist connection to Obama yesterday (couldn't care less about the details). Dozens of lies are circulating (in Alabama its Obama's going to change the US language to Spanish) yet Obama seems to cling to the fact that the most "honorable" person will win. In politics its offense, offense, offense - something the Dems cannot seem to grasp. When you throw in rigged elections (electronic machines), etc, its especially important to get the truth out and get it out vigorously - call McShank a liar, whatever, but get down, and get dirty - Obama can crawl out of the ditch with the rePigs after he gets elected. But I agree, as in football, the winner is usually the one who wants it most. Nice has nothing to do with it.

Did anyone catch the comments on KO last night about drilling versus tire pressure? Amazing. Keeping our cars tuned up and with proper tire pressures can save FOUR TIMES the oil that would be dragged out of the ocean with increased off-shore drilling. This should be out there a lot more.
There a innumerable problems facing our country in the coming years. The bringing to justice of those responsible for the deaths and injuries to s many people both Americand and others and the shredding of the Constituition must be included. And it;s the reason that the Republicans are about to go nuclear in this election campaign. Read more. http://www.tagg-lines.com/2008/08/people-vs-geo...

I wonder how I could get a job with this campaign. I am certain I would be an asset. I am a southern gay guy who grew up in a small town with lots of Baptists. I know how they work and how to turn them on each other. I know how to manipulate and start whisper campaigns like nobody else. As far as I can tell the Obama campaign is full of European pacifists. What it needs is a good shot of mean southern sissies.

NPR was talking about how the East Coast is already trying to plan for the cold weather this winter and the massive, massive heating bills that will hit the poor. I hope when Bugliosi prosecutes Bush for his murderous crimes, he also lists those who have starved to death and froze to death as a result of his evil, hateful, money making schemes and getting his jollies out of the suffering and death of Americans. But not only Americans, as people around the world have suffered and died for his evil schemes, not only war, but his evil greedy, schemes such as using food to produce biofuel to enrich his vile, greedy energy brokers.
