Since all banking is international, how many banks participated in this practice? I'd say probably all of them...it doesn't bode well. Sounds as though banks have been caught in the practice of understating the LIBOR rate due to the weakened credit market. This may sound arcane and complex, but the first paragraph says it all. And, how will it affect the dollar?

    http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087...

    Explanation of LIBOR:
LIBOR Rates (London Interbank Offered Rate)
'The BBA LIBOR is the most widely used benchmark or reference rate for short term interest rates. LIBOR stands for the London Interbank Offered Rate and is the rate of interest at which banks borrow funds from other banks, in marketable size, in the London interbank market.' (BBA website)

I am a resident of New York State. I worked on both Clinton/Gore campaigns. I voted for Hillary twice as a Senator. In light of the way she has carried on in this campaign, namely feeling it was her birthright to have this nomination, I will NOT be voting for her in her the next time she is up for re-election in the Senate.
By the way, why hasn't anybody in the media questioned her ability to run the government budget when she can't even run her own campaign coffers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????????????????????

I will probably be banned for this, but here goes.

I believe Hillary Clinton will win the nomination.

There is no doubt that mathematically, Obama is ahead in the pledged delegates count. But, we have all acknowledged that he can not get 2025 pledged delegates without a convention vote. (Be aware the superdelegates are not pledged -- they simpy endorse, which is non-binding until they vote at the convention).

Therefore, the party's primary battle will still be unresolved at the convention.

At the convention, Obama will make a very strong case for being the nominee as he will lead in pledged delegates, superdelegate endorsements, and probably in the popular vote. (Although the seating of MI and FL will change all of those numbers somewhat).

The next thing that will happen is that Clinton will engage in a lot of back room discussions, to make her case.

Now, I believe that a lot of undecided superdelegates (who have shown their indecisiveness over and over) will continue their namby-pamby behavior and abstain from the first vote. At that point, under party rules, ALL DELEGATES BECOME UNPLEDGED.

Then, on a second, third, etc. vote, delegates can vote for whoever they want. My theory is that many delegates that voted for Obama in early primaries (i.e. before "God Damn America!"), will get cold feet, buyer's remorse, whatever you want to call it, and switch to Clinton.

Let's revisit in August and see if my insane theory is proven correct.

Nuneutralobserver; Well crazier things have happened. If in fact it plays out as you have described there will be a huge revolt of the democrat supporters who have voted in Primaries and if Senator Obama is ahead in delegates, popular vote, etc. I will write in Senator Obama's name and never support Clinton. It will of course mean she will lose the black vote and a huge block of the young voters who have been inspired by Senator Obama. Under your scenario I believe McShame will win.
  • CDS2 · 1 year ago
Very interesting analysis. Let me throw another scenario at you. Assume everything you say happens except that the convention ends up drafting Al Gore.

The Supers are coming out more and more...Obama won over 20 last week. You won't make it to the Convention as the Dem leaders keep trying to tell you but you keep trying to avoid reality. Besides, many who pledged for Clinton in the early months of winter have had a Spring awakening...they are repulsed by her and would change their vote at the Convention.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
nune, if the scenario you describe actually happened (and I doubt it will), 50% of Dem voters would probably stay home. The SDs know this, the Party knows this, and it won't happen because even the DNC has enough sense not to throw the election to McCrazy.

Clinton just does NOT have the numbers, and never will.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
And BTW, any candidate who would pin their hopes on a state that has the highest high school drop out rate in the country is not playing with a full deck. Not only that, but a state that has a 95% white population as well doesn't bode well for a country that has a 27% minority population (Black and Hispanic) and which candidate ignores not only the votes of minorities, but the youth vote, and attempts to pigeon-hole other voter demographics.

Anyone ever see the movie "Attack of the 5'2" Women"? I think Hillary would be perfect for the part in a new movie about her campaign. Bill Clinton was here in my town (Corvallis), OSU last night and at U of O at Eugene. I don't think people are buying their lies they are spreading. Hopefully Oregon can erase what Hillary gains out of the other states on May 20th..
  • lynchie · 1 year ago
Another observation on Nuneutral's scenario. If it plays out as described it will be the end of primaries for the Dem's. No one will ever take the time to turn out to vote if their vote can simply be ignored. The whole charade of parading candidates on tv, radio and in the newspapers will be labeled a hoax. No I don't believe the DNC are quite that stupid, though their fear of the Clinton group is pretty discouraging.
  • MotorCityBadBoy · 1 year ago
Nuneutral, that's a pipe dream... In some overly technical sense something strange could happen, but there's a better chance Barack gets struck by lightening. Plus, if that's the case, why haven't supers been having buyers remorse and switching to Hillary already??? They've certainly been switching FROM Hillary to Barack but not the other way around.

Oh yeah, I had my NATIONAL TV DEBUT on CNN yesterday when Jack Cafferty read my post on his blog. For those who missed it, I was answering Jacks's question, "Is it possible for a landslide victory in West Virginia to put Hillary Clinton back in the race?"
My reply, which he read ON AIR was,
    "Travis writes:
Honestly, a year ago I couldn’t imagine even having this conversation. Obama came out of nowhere and took this nomination from the Clintons because they felt entitled to it. He worked really hard, played by the rules laid out by the DNC and won it fair and square. Looking at Hillary’s shortsighted campaign, divisiveness and campaign debt, how good would she be at running the country? This thing is over."
    http://caffertyfile.blogs.cnn.com/2008/05/12/la...
I thought it was a good question though, in light of today's primary. Funny thing is that my 15 minutes felt a lot more like 30 seconds...

Congrats MCBB-Trav, way cool. I cant bear cnn anymore, between Dobbs and Blitzer. Maybe you could "play with the panel" on David Gregorys new show to complete your 15 minutes?

    Good morning!
In the real world: wildfires have destroyed 70 homes and consumed about 3,000 acres of semi-wilderness along the Space Coast in central Florida. The fires continue to burn and are beginning to threaten settled suburban zones.

Well how about that, CDS2 has 195 clout points thus making him/her the (according to disqus) most valuable commentator on Americablog. ROTFLMAO

Good going John, the blog world will see just just who is making an impact on your blog. Certainly not Mirth with a huge minus. Mirth who makes sense, mirth who is intelligent.

    Nope, it will be CDS2.

Yes, today should be her "swan song" if she were smart about this. End your campaign on a positive win and step aside. There is too much ego involved and I think her husband is pushing her forward on this as well. Delusional comes to mind, and what's sad is that they both are very bright people so ignoring the fact is an ignorance they both share.

HRC ran a spot on my Kentucky cable MSNBC channel this morning...I wondered if this was purchased thru the $11.4 mil or just just added to the additional $15+mil debt???

Rove sent the panel a letter offering to respond to questions in writing, according to his attorney. But he reiterated that he would not testify publicly and under oath.

Sounds like a man who wants to lie.
