Clinton sent out Shell Oil lobbyist, her surrogate, to back her "gas tax holiday" plan:

You know what democrat voters would love to see?

BOTH Clinton and Obama stomping Mc Cain (and Bush) for the absolutely immoral and mendacious stand on the "new G.I. Bill" giving soldiers since 911 education for those who want it.
    Herbert writes about it: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/06/opinion/06her...

and it is indeed a "no brainer". They would need to do their homework as there is a watered down version Mc Cain can then hold up to say he too supports "The Troops" but a little bit of homework can cut that argument to shreds, and you are left with many benefits:

#1, it is the right thing to do. I've been against this war from before it started, vocally, but I support giving veterans free or assisted college educations as a small way of both thanking them and just because it is the right thing to do. It might help also with recruitment, even though I am against the US as empire.
    also:
    - unveils the "war hero", lets him be seen as his attitudes for other soldiers is a lot less than comrade attitudes. He doesn't seem to think they deserve this.
    - shows the hypocrisy of republicans constantly talking about flag pins, and support the troops and when push comes to shove, they aren't patriotic at all (except to corporations) and they use the troops as props.

So Pickles is foursquare against governments' not having adequate relief programs in the event of a natural disaster? Gee, who knew?

    My guess:
North Carolina: Obama by 7-10% (8.5%)
    Indiana: Clinton by 4-7% (5.5%)

Hillary's idea of someone who's not an elitist.

Hillary Clinton's inner circle now fears a stinging defeat is likely in North Carolina.
The campaign now believes a 15 point loss, or more, would not be surprising. Her team will work hard throughout the day to lower all expectations in North Carolina.
The campaign hopes media attention will stay fixated on the competition in Indiana, where 72 delegates are on the line, and Clinton internals show a victory!

New definition of terrorisim by State Dept. "terrorism expert" now on CSPAN:

Terrorism is an act of violence by a non-state actor; therefore, this lets unprovoked attacks by Israel on the Palestinian people off the hook.

It also means that the US military, along with its puppet govt in Baghdad, can continue to attack ordinary Iraqis, labelling them "insurgent terrorists"--what the people of Iraq themselves want doesn't matter, of course.

But John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee, also has religious figures associated with his campaign that could pose problems for his electoral hopes. And they extend beyond the two infamous endorsers who have received the most attention: Pastor John Hagee -- who once called the Catholic Church the "great whore" -- and Reverend Rod Parsley -- who accused the government of enabling "black genocide" through legalizing abortion.

Chief among these individuals is Deal W. Hudson, publisher of the Roman Catholic journal Crisis, and one of the more influential Catholic figures in Republican circles. Hudson rose to political fame during the Bush administration as he worked with Karl Rove to target Catholic votes from a strict anti-abortion and anti-gay posture.

But in August 2004, it was revealed that Hudson had an affair with an 18-year-old Fordham University student while he was a teacher at that institution. The sordid story, reported first by the National Catholic Reporter, involved Hudson joining a group of students at a pre-Lenten "Fat Tuesday" party in Greenwich Village, bringing the drunk student back to his office, and ultimately, exchanging sexual favors. When the affair, which cost Hudson his tenured position, was exposed, he resigned from the Bush reelection team.

It is a shame that Obama cannot win Indiana, because that might have stopped Hillary's horrible campaign, and we could all breath a sigh of relief, and unite against McCain. Her gutter tactics have exhausted everyone, and there is a limit to what we can all take. I hear pundits in the media, praise her for fighting so hard, but it certainly does not impress me. A woman fighting like a street thug, and using gutter politics, lying, whining, and being so Rove like, is not the Democratic nominee we want. She is an embarrassment to all women, and to all Democrats too.

    Combat and Composure
    By David Brooks

This wasn't just shameless spin, it was shamelessness with a purpose. Clinton signaled that she wasn't going to concede even an inch to the vast elitist conspiracy. She wasn't going to feel guilty about ignoring the evidence. She was going to stomp on it, flay it and leave it a twisted mass of jelly quivering on the ground. She was going to perform the primordial duty of an alpha dog leader -- helping one's own.

Barack Obama gave off an entirely different vibe on "Meet the Press." His campaign has been in the doldrums for the past few months. He's never come up with an explanation about how he would actually transform politics, and his conventional substance is beginning to overshadow his unconventional style.

But, as Sunday's contrast made clear, Obama still seems like a human being. He still seems to return each night to some zone of normalcy where personal reflection lives. He wasn't fully candid when answering questions about the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, but there are some inner guardrails that prevent the spin from drifting too far from the truth. Thoughtful and conversational, he doesn't seem to possess the trait that Clinton has: automatically assuming that critics are always wrong.

Bonus line: It was like watching someone get elbowed in a dark alley by their homeroom teacher.

Good morning, AmBloggers around the world. Take a moment to reflect on Pickle's recent condemnation of the military government of Myanmar/Burma: "Their failure to help the people after the terrible damage from the cyclone is further evidence of the tyranical nature of that regime" [paraphrased]. Oh, yeah, failure to help after a natural disaster is incompetent tyranny, You're right, Pickles. We know that story, we call it New Orleans. Where were you?
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
Saw a clip of Hillary on the morning shows yesterday.

Claiming she was always behind in both states and saying that Barack was bragging about sweeping both.

That woman is just like her husband now.

She doesn't even care if her lies are caught anymore.

I'm sick of Clintons big dumb face, trying to be ANYTHING any voter wants her to be, tow thumbs up in the air, with some stupid wink or some such bull...this woman as as phony as it gets. She thinks she is slick, and she is definitely good witha razor cut on the opponent, but you know what...who needs this crap. She is so obviously not being herself, thinking she is as slick as old Bill who I think is really himself when campaigning, she is not comfortable in her own skin. She puts on a badly acted front, and ends up being like your mom, on steroids, and after a few drinks, trying to be "hip".

Can anyone verify, Michigan and Florida...at least ONE of those I thought, when they caucused had ONLY Hillart or "other" on the ballot, is that true?
  • TomJoad · 1 year ago
I also think if she ever got NEAR the white house...somewhere back in her mind she would end up justifying a lot of nasty stuff to us voters, under "well, it's payback time bitches...you made me WORK for my birthright, and now we'll see..."

Thanks! So is that brought up at all...by the Hillary camp, or anyone advocating counting those states, they would have to mean a NEW caucus?

    Hillary Rodham Clinton 328,309 55.2%
    Uncommitted 238,168 40.1
    Dennis J. Kucinich 21,715 3.7
    Christopher J. Dodd 3,845 0.6
    Mike Gravel 2,361 0.4
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
Guess Gravel has gone from the Greens to the Libertarians over the past several months.

He was so sure he was going to be the new Ralph Nader. He can't even be the new Ron Paul.

They mean different things on different days.

I think now they just want to votes to count as is, because that's the only way Hillary even has a slight chance of beating Obama in the popular vote.

(BTW: I think it was a primary, not a caucus. I think Michigan changed their system and schedule in order to be a big deal, but wound up getting bounced for breaking the rules instead.)

Pretty obvious that Hillary's strategy early on was to line up the governors of the big industrial states and ride them and a few of the other big states to the convention.

Might have worked if the Dems had a winner take all system. But they don't, so it was very dumb of her to ignore the small states.

Reminds me of a power hitting baseball team going into a huge stadium, hitting a bunch of flies out to the warning track and getting whipped by the scrappy "small ball" team, who scores on singles and doubles.

Bush Bites, you mentioned seeing Hillary on a news show and her saying how she's always been behind....I saw something similar, wish I could remember what show but I was channel surfing...Anyway, she was talking about how she has ALWAYS BEEN THE UNDERDOG. I about fell off my couch? You know I had the utmost respect for the Clintons and what they had been through during their White House years from the Republican spin machine, but that's mostly gone now. In my eyes, they have become what the Righties always accused them of being.

It's been a long, strange, and ultimately sad, journey. and I just want it to be over after tonight...
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
Clinton, no matter what happens, will take her cause to convention. IF Obama were elected I can see her trying to grab the podium on swearing in day in January
  • TomJoad · 1 year ago
I am afraid it won't be over so soon. No matter what. Reading here and there (Pottersville for one place) about "insiders" wanting to go with the devil they know...don't like Obama actually "thinking" and not beholden as much to the status quo.

THEY know Hillary will play along. But they may have miscalculated, because once he cat is out of the bag, all that distraction media stuff works less and less.

Gonna be some dienfranchised voters if they screw with Obamas win.
