AMERICAblog: UNDER INVESTIGATION: Palin

  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
In the thread below someone said:

John McCain is bringing corruption TO Washington.

Short and to the point, if you want to be a change agent you don't bring someone under investigation TO Washington, you kick them out of Washington.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
    Aquarius,
That's a GREAT line! I will have to borrow that one...
  • houstonray · 1 year ago
Ditto here, great talking point!! thanks!!
  • vkobaya · 1 year ago
You're talking to the choir. Address this to McCain though I doubt he is capable of comprehending such fine point, that is 'to' or 'out' of Washington.
  • blackwolf · 1 year ago
    Excellent bullet ad:) You're hired.
  • blackwolf · 1 year ago
The controversy has already started. Bad choice for McCain. Her firing has politics written all over it. The media will have a field day on this one. It's about time too.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
Only if corporate media considers it important and not too complicated to report. I think many low-info voters won't know or care, even if they get informed about it. They are going to see a fiercely protective mom and sister.
  • yesh · 1 year ago
    spot on
  • blackwolf · 1 year ago
I beg to differ. People react to what we "tell" them is important. The MSM will feed on this because they need the viewership. Obama is old news in light of this. Is this someone that can step in and lead the most powerful country in the world.

Just think! The Obama camp will raise the question, "McCain, is this your idea of securing the safety of America?" You can attack his VP relentlessly. It goes right back to the faulty judgment of John McCain.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
I hope you're right, but at least this first afternoon, the Chuck Todds and Andrea Mitchells are sending Palin wet, juicy kisses. And let's not even get into what's going on over at Fox News.
  • blackwolf · 1 year ago
karen: You're right on this one so far. I've been watching the news, and no news team is challenging the wisdom of chosing her. They're sitting back and taking it all in--and listening to the Repbulican talking heads try and beef up her credentials.

I'm listening to the so-called investigation of Palin into her firing of the state commissioner. Disturbing to say the least.
  • yesh · 1 year ago
everyone here who says they believe this is a bad choice is whistlin' past the graveyard. i live in alaska. i've seen what a pretty face and "compelling" story do to otherwise reasonably bright voters. progressive co-workers who support very little of what the governor has done since her recent ascension still approve of her, and many voted for her.

take this comment any way you like, but this selection panders to the little voter in every man's pants. the sanctified male moron who makes up the vast majority of the right wing is telling himself that this beauty queen could, might, conceivably would... bear his mongoloid love child. you watch. this should put the wrinkles back in the freshly relaxed dem sac. the sail that billowed so recently with that terrific performance by barack is ripped and flapping, and i fear the obama campaign will underestimate the appeal of this hotty from the great, mysterious, white north. i say WORRY!
  • blackwolf · 1 year ago
    Whoa! Profound.

Ha, ha! A little investigation? Bushies are ABOVE the Law, of course! Karl Rove will take care of any adverse witnesses or outcomes with a few good bribes and some sudden fatal illnesses or accidents, if need be.

    For what it is worth....

The cesspools at Freeperville, Lucianne, and a number of the christo-fascist wingnut boards are going absolutely orgasmic over this. I've seen nothing like this level of enthusiasm, or just sheer number of posts, in the last few months of visiting these sewers for comic relief.

Many are indicating that - although only predisposed to voting for McBush as the lesser of two evils or not voting for him at all - they are now enthusiastically on-board and "getting their checkbooks out." They believe that this pick of Palin allows them to believe that his SCOTUS choices will be ones that conform to their troglodytic and knuckle-dragging mindset.

McPOW may just have restored his (aptly named) "base" with this tragic Barbie Bimbo.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
Fox News, too, already dazzled within half an hour. We Americablog Kidz need to start getting into the mindset of these people. They think it's a FANTASTIC pick! Woebetide the Obama team if they underestimate the electability of this woman among hausfraus, fundies, low-info trogs, gun nuts, and all the Folk Obama (misconscrewed, of course) considers "bitter."
  • LasVegasRecords · 1 year ago
I think you better look into Mr. Obama's mindset. Example: Remember Michelle saying this at her speech? Barack said these words to me "For those who want to change the world from what it is to what they believe it should be" and those words touched her heart so much. BS That phrase comes directly from the the RULES FOR RADICAL book written by Saul Alinsky. Buy the book on Amazon & you will know what Mr. Obama is all about & when he says CHANGE everything in this book is the change he is referring to. Larry

Palin is the candidate of Hope. Not Barak Obama. This shows anyone who is not qualified can be President of The United States of America. This uplifts me because I can become President and I am stupid and totally unqualified!

nah, that'd make mccain's polling numbers go UP with his base.
  • vkobaya · 1 year ago
I don't blame her for liking guns. Have an Alaskan correspondent and she sleeps with her guns, has to as though she has never needed them, there is always the chance that she may wake up with a polar bear or other predator in her bedroom. Her home was invaded by some other smaller carnivore coming in through the doggie door that was stealing meat out of her meat locker. And it was dangerous enough that her dogs timidly and quietly hid out in the bathroom.

he's obviously hoping that if he picks someone completely unqualified and much younger than himself... he can cheat any health issues that might arise in the next four years.

The religious right assured him that God wouldn't put an unqualified woman in charge of the USA.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
No time for a vetting, or Davis didn't care, or they'll spin it: Palin was going to bat to nail a wife-beater who abused her sister. And that's OK (Chuck Todd already said this on MSNBC).
  • msskwesq · 1 year ago
YES, I heard that tripe from Chuck Todd too. And Andre Mitchell as well. They are shameless. Abuse of power and corruption is still wrong no matter what the motive is. There are legal ways to deal with divorce, custody, even domestic violence issues and she deliberately took matters into her own hands as Governor to circumvent the legal system, This does not bode well. Also, did you see McCain's face, he looked totally pissed off as if he was strong armed by the Karl Rove gang to pick her. I am sure he wanted Ridge or Liberman, or even Colin Powell (who flat out said NO). AND her shout out to Geraldine and Hillary was sooooo patronizing and disingenuous it made my stomach turn.

  • eliot99 · 1 year ago
I seriously don't think she knows what she's getting in to. It was a last minute choice and a knee-jerk acceptance. Also, I'm retired military and her selection is not floating well with Vets. I suspect the reaction from active duty people (especially senior officers), will be much worse.

The CNN Republican pundits have been crowing about Palin having "two more years of administrative experience" than Obama.

I assume they are talking about her having overseen the economy, budget and administration of the great state of Alaska. With a population of 670,053 (2005) Alaska is only slightly smaller than Memphis, Tenn., although it must be admitted that it has a few more oil wells than Memphis does.

On the other hand becoming governmor was a big step up for her when compared to the onerous responsibilities she had when serving on the City Council (two terms) and as Mayor of the bustling village of Wasilla with a pop. of less than 10,000.

Yep, this gal has all of the experience needed to be a heartbeat--or less away-- from the Presidency. Talk about that 3 a.m. phone call....

CNN is now talking about that important sector of the American voting public defined as "soccer moms" who are now sure to flock to the Republican fold.

How can these people say this stuff with a straight face!!

WOW, I just read that article from Anchorage Daily News and was stunned by the depth of this investigation. It's not simple nor a shallow and easy issue to get through, but one where it involves many different politicians who have been forced to resign due to all kinds of things ranging from sexual harassment to bribery and conspiracy charges.

And THIS is who McCain wants as his VP??? Something is really fishy here and I'm not quite sure what it is as yet, but this stinks!
  • Relieved · 1 year ago
    "Dangerous Choice," Mr. McCain.
  • lark83 · 1 year ago
The more I think about it, the more desperate this choice sounds. Its definitely "outside the box", and you go outside the box when you get desperate.

She has an ethics investigation cloud hanging over her head which could blow up in their faces in October. That alone makes this choice a very dumb idea. Then there is the fact that she is very unqualified to be VP of the United States. She has been governor of the smallest population in the country for less than 2 years. There are more people in the Sacramento region than there are people in Alaska.

Everything about this selection is goofy. They must be really desperate.

    Seriously.....

I work with women here who have just had babies....and they are just flabbergasted that a woman would take this on.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
I never thought you were being anti-mother, but I did think you asked a damn good question. I never had children, so I don't have that "experience", but it seems simply crazy to me that anyone would take that on.

And why or why is our disgusting MSM NOT talking about this? All they are doing is praising her (as did Hillary just now as well). Frankly, this entire thing gives me the creeps. Something is really fishy here.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago

  • Gary SF · 1 year ago
Okay, since I am often misunderstood, let me first state that I am voting for Obama and I generally hate all things "Repubican." But this VP selection is a brilliant, if not risky strategy. Some of the female Clinton supporters will be more inclined to vote for McCain because of this. Also, the Evangelical vote is more or less sewn-up as she is one of them. In the VP debate, Biden will not be able to 'hammer' her because she can just cry or something and he will look like a bully. A good strategy for the Democrats is to begin investigating any links between Palin and Ted Stevens as is seem likely that anyone in office in Alaska would have something of Stevens' taint. Also, the MSM was played big time. The 'leaks' that McCain's VP was going to be someone else is a Rovian strategy. When it turned out to be Palin, the story had more 'punch' due to the surprise factor and now that is all they can talk about. What patsies. I am pretty sure that she was selected a few weeks back. If we really want to play dirty, we start our own smear campaign that is full of lies. For example, in an anonymous email, we can muddle her name and start calling her Sarah Plame (instead of Palin). Once we do that, we can then demonstrate how Bush and Cheney think that she is unpatriotic. Most of the ignorant idiots in this country wouldn't recognice the difference between Plame and Palin.
  • jcgraham77 · 1 year ago
I wouldn't consider the evangelical vote to be sewn up. She has extended protection/rights to gays and lesbians. McCain is famous in all circles for his personal and business relations with gay men. Its going to get ugly.
  • Soundboy_jeff_meanie · 1 year ago
not to mention that... evangelicals like MALE evangelicals.

The GOP is going to lose big time!
  • FNReedie · 1 year ago
The republicans just do not get it. Giving Palins the VP slot is a lot like nominating Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court. Palins' experience is being a part-time mayor of a 7000 person town and governor of Alaska -- no offense to Alaska, I love the Alaska and have visited several times -- but Alaska's population is smaller than most major cities. The complexities of managing open wilderness and negotiation oil contracts is not the same as building coalitions to manage the USA.
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
It's going to be tricky for Biden to point out all Palin's inadequacies during debates. The Republicans will cry sexism forgetting how they treated Hillary. The one thing the Republicans know how to do is be hypocrites.
  • pagancub · 1 year ago
Its been said before...but I just want to say it again.

Let me ask the mothers and women out there a question on this. If you were to give birth to a child with down's syndrome, a child with immense special needs, would you be seeking a job that would completely take you away from that child for long periods of time? I can understand honoring her term as Alaska's governer and all, but as a parent of a special needs child wouldn't you want to put further aspirations aside so that you can give that child the attention that he or she needs...espcially when that child is under 5 years old? I can see how it could work with children without special needs, but this...this I just don't get. I just want it explained to me. Its not a money thing...they are loaded.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
If an ultrasound at 16 weeks revealed to you, a 43 year-old woman, that your baby had Down Syndrome, which was a 1 in 35 chance of happening, would you carry to term anyway, to cement your pro-life cred for a political career?
  • Carl_Lloyd · 1 year ago
The look on McCain's face...during Palin's speech, you only had to look at McCain's pained expression to see how much he wished that Ridge or Lieberman--or even Hillary Clinton herself--was standing next to him on that stage.

It was excruciating to watch the so-called-Maverick let himself be forced into this disappointingly weak pick.

And, let me tell you, I live here in Michigan, and the blue-collar workers will NOT be impressed that she hunts and fishes. That is the LAST thing they admire...they do not want the "wife who wants to tag a long on the hunting trip."
  • lynchie · 1 year ago
McCain has been taken out of the campaign. You can tell just looking at his face. You are totally spot on. He wants someone who will watch his back, he has no history with this woman and the investigation going on might just confirm for him that he has no chance so they are giving him a throw away VP pick. This is all Karl Rove. Get the woman on the ticket and shove that up Obama's ass. We had the guts to choose a woman, Obama should have picked Hillary. They hope to pander the the female voters. She is against freedom of choice, likes the death penalty and is a good little Republican stepford wife. McCain knows he is toast. On the other hand she is young, cute, got a nice ass and what the hell Cindy is a c##t, maybe i could play hide my POW salami with her.

1 - Will the msm speak, ad naseum, of the investigation against her in Alaska? Since Rezko and Ayers were of such great import, will they show the same sort of journalistic flow of information about Ms. Palin? Hmm?
2 - Hillary supporters love her because of her age, experience and life hits. They totally identify with those things. Will they identify with this young, cute upstart who jumps to the front of the line, with beauty contestant as part of her resume, the way they have seen younger women jump to the front of the line in their own lives?

Jump the shark make be applicable here.

Thats what I am getting at. I didn't like Hillary cause she has a tata...I grew up with her in Arkansas...I saw her standing up to the good old buddy system--she was a political bitch on wheels with education and experience. This Plain woman is an empty shell. I say lets arrange a cagefight and watch the Republican blood fly.

Hunter at DKos makes some good points about the odd pairing of Palin and McCain:

Is it a ticket or a new fall sitcom? Dharma and Methuselah...

How dare Palin equate herself in the same sentence with Hillary Clinton - Hillary's policies and beliefs are 180 degrees from this woman - "we all know Hillary Clinton" and you, Ms Palin, are no Hillary Clinton!!

Wow. Once this picture gets out, there will be a spike in the sales of lotion and kleenex.
