McCain said there was/is some corrupt Republicans. Is he going to make them famous, or just the Dems that ask for earmarks?
  • Chris From Maine · 1 year ago
    hes unfit for anything.

This "lipstick" nonsense is proof that the media is on McCain's side, simply by discussing it.

You know whats really scary? McCain and Palin will probably win, because America is too stupid to vote in their best interests (see 2000, 2004).

Once again thanks to Karl Rove for giving the nation a Neanderthal team of puppets. Big Oil and Big Pharma are popping champagne this week laughing at all the Kmart white trash voters who keep their CEO bonuses in the millions. And sending in their pittance contributions while laughing all the way to their stock portfolios. Thanks Turdblossom.

Did you know that if they gave Karl Rove an enema, he could be buried in a matchbox?

And even then he'd rattle around in it like a bee-bee in a boxcar.

The cancer that has appeared on his face is the outward manifestation of the cancer that has been eating at his soul since he returned from Vietnam. He is a weak, self-mythifying, self-pitying rageaholic who exploits women, and has allowed himself to be corrupted by corporate interests, in his quest for approval, absolution, and love from a guilt-ridden and defeated nation.
  • nuneutralobserver2008 · 1 year ago
McCain has more women on his staff than Obama, and McCain's female staffers are paid MORE, on average, than the male staffers.

Obama pays the women on his staff LESS, on average.

Wake up and smell the coffee, folks. OBAMA IS A FRAUD.
  • mirth · 1 year ago
LOL Did you think this up all by yourself?

Where's your documentation for your claims? 'Cause without it you're fulla shit.

    Totally unfit is right.

He does not possess the sound judgment or stability of temperment to be President.
  • anarchy · 1 year ago
hardly surprising since GWB is as unfit to hold office as it gets.

stick a fork in our asses and turn us over 'CUZ WE'RE ALL DONE.

Did anyone else see the Lady on TV last night that claimed that Wasilla is the incest-rape capitol of the United States?
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
McCain chose to go with the Rovian bunch who twice installed Bushco.
    That was his decision.

That decision alone makes him unfit to run this country.
He just keeps adding to the pile of piss poor decisions.

Do you think that people in rural Ohio or rural Indiana or rural W Viginia , Kentucky, or Missouri are reading Andrew's blog or this blog or any blog? Have any of these people actually read a newspaper lately?

On CNN this morning, once again, people in the Obama campaign office in Portsmouth OH (rural southeast) to this day when asked who they are going to vote say they don't like the way the economy is going and have lost their job or pension, but still can't reside to the idea of voting for a black man or likes McCain because of his Christian values.
  • BLOGGING BITCH! · 1 year ago
I was in West Virginia when Hillary was running ads that Obama is a Muslim. Yeah, it's kinda tough getting the truth out there.
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
the mainstream media is picking this up.
it will take awhile but it's getting there.
do something to push it out there...write a letter to the paper in Portsmouth OH even if you don't live there and give em hell.

Make rural Ohio have to choose between a lying white man and an honorable black man. At least that.
  • brb915 · 1 year ago
I can comment to that to an extent
I was born and raised in rural WV. I now live elsewhere, and you are right to a degree, but I'll give my parents as an example. They are rural, white, simple living folk. BUT--they are Democratic FOREVER. My father thinks Gee Dub is the absolute worst president in the history of this Republic, and he has as much said that he would vote for Homer Simpson if that was his only other choice

I read both pieces in full and applaud the well thought out commentary. NOW if only we can get the teevee press to agree.

  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
I don't like defeatist attitudes when what we need right here, right now is to fight! This is not the time to skulk but the time to stand up to the loathsome Republicans.

Damn it all, stick that "oh we can never do that" and let's unite to fight these cretins HARD!
  • Webster · 1 year ago
My argument isn't with *you* but the wraiths that call themselves "journalists."
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
I realize that, but at the same time your own "defeatist" attitude is what I was discussing.

Look, I know how hard it is to keep your head above water, heck I struggle every single day with this stuff, BUT in the end and now more than ever, we need to take a breath and go back in the ring and fight like hell.

Do you understand my point here?
  • Steve_in_CNJ · 1 year ago
we've been governed for 8 years by a man who is unfit for high office. andrew sullivan endorsed him in 2000. read his idiotic reasons here:

  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
Sullivan's bathetic recantations of his manly "heroes" track a predictable course: starry-eyed admiration, followed by melodramatically "doubting" second-thoughts and Augustinian soul-wrestling and breast-beating, then disillusionment, and finally, loathing of the object of worship. The rest of us jaded realists operate from the assumption that ALL pols are inherently corrupt and corruptible. How this overgrown Catholic schoolboy got the fame and respect he did is one of the Great Mysteries of the Universe. Possible explanation: only in America...
  • scooter in brooklyn · 1 year ago
some of us find him sexy in spite of all that :)
  • JamesR · 1 year ago
What a blatantly sexist and inappropriate comment!

You can have him when I'm done with him.
  • Steve_in_CNJ · 1 year ago
i was never cynical about Al Gore. however, Gore was the object of sullivan's contempt in 2000. sully made an exception in that case and skipped the initial stages of loathing.
  • JamesR · 1 year ago
Sullivan's endorsement of Bush is correct and well documented, as is his remorse. Here is his support for Obama penned last December http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200712/obama Very wordy, but for the record.

Keith and Rachel should have a go...
McCain really needs to be slapped for the attempted Willy Hortenizing of Mr. Obama in that shameful wolf spot and the overall shameful cap to a badly run, poorly organized and previously bankrupted (spiritual and physical) campaign.

I think we all realize that none of this would be said except for the blogs. Main stream media is owned by corporations and serves them and not the public. Years ago, the function of the media in our society was to keep the bastards honest. No longer. The blogs are now keeping the bastards honest and America needs to be thankful. But, question: Why haven't the Repubs shut the internet down? Perhaps they are just now, in the last year, seeing their error in not moving against the truth tellers in their robes and/or underwear transmitting from their bedroom or Mom's basement. Go BLOGS! Crush those bastards.

Starting this weekend, my friend and I will be dedicated to writing to the "mainstream" blogs/web pages such as Newsweek, Time, NY Times, MSNBC, CNN, etc. (and yes even Perez Hilton, lol).

Our goal is to educate the masses in addition to coming here to AB and getting fired up.

    :-)
  • gumbygirl · 1 year ago
That is an excellent plan; i heartily approve. As much as i love reading this blog, which by the way, thank you John for this refuge from dumbfuckery, the MSM's web pages do have (inexplicably) a much higher readership. Whew, that was one hell of a run-on sentence; now I need a nap!

Obama needs to pull from the movie "The American President" with a powerful ad aimed directly to the American people:

    Looking into the camera-

"Shame on you Sen. McCain. Shame on you for trying to deflect away from the real suffering of the American people with lies and Bridges to Nowhere. The American people are suffering with real problems - they can't make their mortgages, they have a hard time filling up their tanks, they can't get affordable health care.
    These are "real" problems, Sen.
I am Barak Obama, and I will get record profit making CEOs and record profit making Oil companies to help us dig our way back up to the top. I will cut taxes for hardworking Americans. I will get affordable healthcare for American families.
This is America, and we know Americans work hard and are the most patriotic people in the world.
We can and will do this.
    And, I approve this message."

    Just a thought.

    Off Topic.

Brad Hanson is the name of Palin's lover while married. This name should be plastered all over the internet like Lewinsky's was. Brad Hanson. Google it.

Ya know, I love Josh Marshall and generally consider his observations to be spot-on, but his deference for Andrew Sullivan's opinion has always baffled me.

Andrew Sullivan has demonstrated himself, time and again, to be nothing more than an intellectually dishonest, hypocritical, prurient jack-ass of the first-order. The man has so much cognitive-dissonance built up in that head of his that its in danger of exploding. Any statement coming from a mind in that condition should be assumed to be bullshit unless proven otherwise.

Citing Andrew Sullivan does NOT help to make your point. Yes, Sullivan happens to be correct in this case, but even a broken clock is correct twice a day.

    -S
  • JamesR · 1 year ago
...All of your objections to Sullivan are precisely what qualifies him as a Conservative writer! And he speaks to the rest in their own language with references. Which one of us would want that horrible job? Being spot-on even once a day is still better than the "never" which is too common with Conservatives and a defining characteristic for Neo-Cons.

Unfit. And with a record. - I am gonna post a quote, that is part of a larger article but is pretty pithy and condenses much into near the all-desirable 2 second timeframe. From actor Richard Schiff, at the Huffingtonpost: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/richard-schiff/as... I found this excerpt on a NSFW site Sept 6th, billinexile, I think not appropriate to link to from here. It was published Sept 5th, there and in the London Independant titled "As My Household Shows, We're a Divided Nation"

"Here is a man who had his moment in history already pass him by. After being eviscerated and politically castrated in the 2000 Republican primaries by the Bush PR machine; accused falsely of fathering an illegitimate and racially mixed child, he was given a chance at redemption and a chance to save the world from a man he considered at the time to be dangerous and untrustworthy. He could have run as a third party candidate and taken enough votes away from George W. to seal the election for Al Gore. He passed.

Four years later, John Kerry had talks with McCain about running as his Vice-President; a dream ticket that would surely bring down the Bush regime. Again he passed. When I ask Washington insiders why, they can only conclude that the reason was simple, unadulterated ambition to be President. But what a price to pay. This is a man who could have saved the world from the last eight years of disaster and instead is content to inherit the aftermath."

Having lived in WV for several years I am now seeing more Obama signs and bumper stickers than McCain ones this year.
