More about the Yule Goat
When (R) Pete Domenici finally admitted his Alzheimers and his retirement because of it, both (R) Heather Wilson and (D) Tom Udall resigned their HOR seats to run for Domenici's vacated Senate seat.
Wilson was beaten by her primary opponent; Udall beat his primary opponent.
Now Udall faces conservative nutcase Steve Pierce in Nov and it will be a huge shock if very popular Udall loses.

Color me (pleasantly) shocked.
Give us 60 senate seats and quit falling for the Dobsonite reindeer games
But the more the merrier.
For the first time in over 30 years the Democrat, Mark Begich is actually ahead in the polls, against the Teflon coated Senator Ted Stevens.
This year Stevens is under a cloud of scrutiny and being investigated by the FBI for possible oil company kickbacks. We have watched a number of our prominent Republicans convicted and sent to jail.
There is some slim possibility that Stevens may join them. But even if he doesn't it he has been badly damaged by the scandals and Begich is coming on strong.
Not only that but there is some talk that Alaska may go for Obama in November, and we NEVER vote Democrat when it comes to choosing a President.
