AMERICAblog: Veepstakes reaching fever pitch. Focus seems to be on Biden.

    Ouch--nice rejection technique.
Actually, we NEED Gov. Kaine here in
Virginny to take care of business!!

    Any chance for Geraldine Ferraro?
  • dad · 1 year ago
    no. she's terminal.
  • tbhull · 1 year ago
bill would still hit it on a one time matter.
  • dad · 1 year ago
    no doubt
  • whomod · 1 year ago
Um... isn't the problem the fact that he already has one sour mannish older woman on his hands?
  • tbhull · 1 year ago
Hillary is neither a hit nor a run position for poor old Billl. She is just an old wife.
  • cothinker · 1 year ago
Sounds like Biden is the choice. Guess we'll have to suck it up for 4 more years of the Repugnicans in the White House. Once again the Dems screw up a golden opportunity.
  • dcredhead · 1 year ago
Biden. BIDEN. BIDEN?!!?? Are you f'ing KIDDING ME?!?!? The has-been, old white guy from DE? My husband and I are sitting here shaking our heads wondering WHAT he brings to the ticket...

    And that answer is....

    NOTHING.
  • vwcat · 1 year ago
he brings alot. Including Pennsylvania which is next to deleware and he is popular there. And his experience calms the fears of older people of Obama being 'inexperienced' and Biden is in the more liberal wing of the party.
    I like Biden.
And he brings catholics and working class.
  • dcredhead · 1 year ago
I wonder if he'll call Obama, "articulate" again... and he can't carry the ticket for PA. Western PA is very conservative.
  • devis1 · 1 year ago
Imus gave him alot of exposure back when he was on MSNBC, so he might change a few borderline racist's minds too. One can hope!
  • dad · 1 year ago
he brings over 30 years in the Senate.
    he brings his mouth.
    he brings Catholics
    he brings working families
    he brings lists, staff, fundraisers.

he can go toe-to-toe and tit-for-tat on every mccain claim
    he'll kill somebody like romney.

    imagin this:
"a Noun, a Verb and POW"

the fact that he is rough, risky and soometimes racially incensitive, and experienced, makes Obama look strong as hell.

    OBAMA/BINDEN 08 and 12!
  • dcredhead · 1 year ago
When I think of all the choices he could have made, the fact that he would pick this old, racist, plagiarizer makes me ill. The "young" voting block that helped make Obama the nominee isn't going to be thrilled about this...
  • dad · 1 year ago
i think the kids will like him just fine.
  • Dave of the Jungle · 1 year ago

From commenter "francisv" one thread down:

"Wonkette is saying that they're hearing that it is JACK REED.

Obama’s pick is Jack Reed. The Secret Service are (sic) began protection on Reed in the last 24 hours and have been crawling around Rhode Island since yesterday."

Oh Gawd, please Reed over Biden. *drops to knees, clasps hands* I'm begging. Pleeeease.

    Jack Reed on the issues:

    http://www.ontheissues.org/senate/jack_reed.htm

francisv, I hope it was ok for me to move your comment here. If not, apologies.
  • devis1 · 1 year ago
I heard Reed refused to be vetted--can't remember who said it.

Wait - wasn't it Biden who put his foot in his mouth about Obama,....

    From CNN, January 2007 --

"I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy," Biden said. "I mean, that's a storybook, man." (Watch Biden's comments and Obama's reaction )

Biden issued a statement Wednesday afternoon, saying: "I deeply regret any offense my remark in the New York Observer might have caused anyone. That was not my intent and I expressed that to Sen. Obama."
  • vwcat · 1 year ago
this is just so exciting. I really was hoping it'd be Biden. He's from the democratic wing of the democratic party and will calm fears about Obama's inexperience.
    And he's so likable.
    We have a veep!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • dcredhead · 1 year ago
And how many electoral votes does DE have. one?
  • naschkatzehussein · 1 year ago
That's not why Obama picked him.
  • Bison · 1 year ago
    OBAMA / CLARK 08

I can feel it in my bones.
  • mirth · 1 year ago
    Pleeeease be right.

    OBAMA/CLARKorREEDoranyonebutBidenorRichardson '08
  • naschkatzehussein · 1 year ago
You guys must have just missed the news that a Secret Service detail was sent to Biden's house. I favored Clark, but I accept Biden as a good choice, and I'm so happy that the three I didn't want--Clinton, Nunn, or Bayh--were passed over.
  • mirth · 1 year ago
And you must have missed that Wonkette reports SS detail is also assigned to Reed.
  • Bison · 1 year ago
    Remember this?
"It's Gephardt" for Kerry's Vice President
    http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/du...

    Trust me, it's not Biden.
  • Tribe643 · 1 year ago
We finally have our VP. I actually like this choice quite a bit. He's not my favorite, but he's going to add a level of comfort for those unsure about Obama's experience, has an everyman way of speaking that should appeal to working class types, and with his quick wit, will make a helluva attack dog for Obama, something both Gore and Kerry did not have.

Considering no VP possibility was perfect, I'd say Barack's made a very good choice here.
  • devis1 · 1 year ago
    Attack dog good.
  • naschkatzehussein · 1 year ago
In addition to picking a good VP, Obama has succeeded in stretching out the Democratic convention for two weeks, and he has given a MSM a good dose of their own medicine. I guess he's picking up a lot of young supporters with the text messaging too. With all this plus the house ad on McCain, I would say that Obama has had a pretty good week.
  • vkobaya · 1 year ago
Obama is revolting. He is playing us all for fools, I hope to build drama and suspense, and increase interest in his candidacy, but it is too reminicent of how Bush played us for suckers again and again and laughed at us. Obama has out all sorts of false clues to various candidates, some very dark horses, to make us think we've discovered who he intends to pick. Sounds like Bush's sucker call to me. Here sucker, sucker, sucker!!!!!

Damn him! McCain isn't the only Bush clone running in 2008.
  • mirth · 1 year ago
Finger meet scroll wheel...You just lost me as a reader of your comments.
  • devis1 · 1 year ago
smacks of strange named posters from the primary days--been scrolling for awhile!
  • houstonray · 1 year ago
Yeah, I'm ok with Biden. I still have some gut feeling that this is all smokescreen for someone totally under the radar. Rumor has it that the "Obama/Bayh" bumper stickers today were to throw people off the trail. I can't imagine they would let the Secret Service give it all away in the end, but stranger things have happened.

I know some people don't like Biden, but I think he really brings the experience level that many think Obama lacks. I think that argument is stupid anyway because Bush had pretty much zero experience, certainly no foreign policy experience, and his business experience was not a stellar track record either, but I digress....I think he will be a good attack 'go to guy' for bashing McCain....

And lest we forget, just imagine Biden against Romney in a debate!
  • devis1 · 1 year ago
Yeah, the SS giving it away is odd.
  • dad · 1 year ago
    kos has this:
And is there a better example than this that old media is getting left out in the cold?
"Wolf Blitzer on the Situation Room begging viewers to stay tuned so CNN can bring them coverage of a text message."

    brilliant :)

It's Delaware's U. S. Senator Joe Biden. All indications point to him!

    http://osi-speaks.blogspot.com/2008/08/breaking...
  • naschkatzehussein · 1 year ago
Obama also sent his plane to Delaware this afternoon.
  • mirth · 1 year ago
We should place bets tonight, with the losers having to make a donation to Americablog.

I say it will not be Biden (and not just because I hope it's not). Devis wrote that Reed maybe hasn't been vetted, but just in case...

    It's Reed.
  • dad · 1 year ago
    ok.
    i got Biden.
  • mirth · 1 year ago
Awwww dad. You're so nice. I hate for you to lose.
  • dad · 1 year ago
I'd hate for me to lose too.

    kind of a win/win though
  • mirth · 1 year ago
Since it appears that Reed wasn't vetted, then it looks like I'll be sending John some $, so it's a good lose for me.

But I still say it's not Biden.
  • dad · 1 year ago
    you indeed may be right.
Obama is pretty good with head fakes.

just think Biden's bite would help.
  • mirth · 1 year ago
Biden's bite also carries baggage that the McShame camp will love.

But, I've trusted Obama so far and that won't change.
  • dad · 1 year ago
i'll take the baggage. it comes with any.

    Biden will fight.
  • devis1 · 1 year ago
I've been googling looking for where I saw that but no luck so far...I'm hoping for Biden and I'll take your bet. They've gotten my pauper donations b4 though so A-blog might hope I'm right and you're wrong!!!
  • mirth · 1 year ago
  • Hangtown Danile · 1 year ago
I guess you are paying up.
  • mirth · 1 year ago
Yes. Once it's confirmed by the Obama campaign, I'll pay up.

And if dad and devis think Biden is a good choice, then it must be true.
  • devis1 · 1 year ago
    CNN says it's Biden...
  • FightBack · 1 year ago
The only charter flight out of Chicago Midway headed to Delaware tonight, the secret service headed to protect Biden. Looks like we have a VP and a damed good one at that. He's a fierce fighter for the middle class. I thought it would be Hillary but my heart was with Biden. For those Americans who have not followed this guy, they will come to love him. You might not agree with him all the time, but he is a man of exceptional good character.
  • mirth · 1 year ago
I guess as long as you aren't an Indian working in 7/11 or you haven't had Biden plagarize something you've written, then yeah, you'll love him.
  • devis1 · 1 year ago
Hey, was that you who called in--OK we'll let you slide on the bet.
  • mirth · 1 year ago
    A bet is a bet.

Besides, I haven't donated to Ab for awhile.

Edit: No, I didn't call King and I ain't no PUMA.
    :)
  • devis1 · 1 year ago
Oh gawd 1st call into King is from a puma ass calling him a plagiarizer.
  • houstonray · 1 year ago
Associated Press is now 'confirming' it IS Joe Biden...probably the least biggest surprise now...ha
  • devis1 · 1 year ago
MSNBC has pre-empted 'Lockup' so it must be true.
  • dad · 1 year ago
    drastic move
  • mirth · 1 year ago
    Awww fuck.
  • dad · 1 year ago
    wait for the text ..
  • devis1 · 1 year ago
Olbermann is saying since he never took sides between Hil and Obama that he might help heal some wounds. I would have preferred he came out and endorsed Obama but I guess he didn't. He's parlaying it as diplomatic. Sorry.
  • whomod · 1 year ago
It is the place for politics after all. Just so long as politics end by dinner time and occur strictly on on weekdays.
  • houstonray · 1 year ago
Good God, MSNBC has run the same video loop over and over and over...I might as well be listening to the radio...jeesh...
  • whomod · 1 year ago
I think the guy MSNBC has looking for file footage right now is the same guy Obama trusted to make the text call.
  • FightBack · 1 year ago
Mirth.....the plagarism accusation is BS. He did give credit for that speech on numerous occasions and forgot maybe once? Oh yeah! Big plagariser my ass! And for the 7-11 thing read this.....The Indian-American activist who was on the receiving end of Biden's comment later called the media coverage of Biden's comments "completely unfair," and stated that he was "100 percent behind (Biden) because he did nothing wrong." From Wikipedia
  • mirth · 1 year ago
Ok Ok. You seem better informed than I am and this wouldn't be the first time I was wrong about something.

The fact is that I trust Obama to make the right decisions to win this election. If he chooses Biden, then Biden it is.
  • whomod · 1 year ago
If the text phone call comes at midnight PT (yes, 3:00 AM Washington time), then it's either Clinton, ready for the 3:am phone call or else, and more likely, it's a final slap in the face to her petulant supporters who'd rather subject this country to 4 more years of this hell and jeopardize the Supreme Court to anti-choice and anti-Constitutional law fascists than to accept that she lost.

So that's my next prediction. 12 midnight my time. 1 hour and 10 minutes from now. If the 3:00AM thing wasn't an intentional dig or clue then I have to say they blew it with this stunt seeing as how it's almost a foregone conclusion.

    hurray! great choice!
now they can play good cop-bad cop...
  • fostert · 1 year ago
    I don't care what anyone says, Biden's a great choice. I hope this isn't a fake.
  • whomod · 1 year ago
2:00 AM PT (1:59 on my phone though)

    Weird time to send it.
  • whomod · 1 year ago
The MSNBC blurb says they were sent out at 3:00 AM ET though...
    hmm...

So maybe I was right about the 3:00 AM phone calll.

A final slap to the Hillary PUMAS.

Good good choice IMO. We emerge from this with a much stronger ticket.
  • whomod · 1 year ago
No word yet as to whether Hillary was ready for the 3:AM call from Obama.
  • Fireblazes(CheetohsandCatfood) · 1 year ago
McCain is using Biden's primary attacks against Obama to attack Obama now. So I guess it doesn't matter which primary candidate he chooses, its all fodder for their cannons. It really doesn't matter, just play some Romney ads beating up on McC.
  • whomod · 1 year ago
McCain does a stellar job of that all by himself!

He has met the enemy and it is ...himself!
