AMERICAblog: Verizon and AT&T provided free cell towers to the McCain ranch, and admit it's because he's running for president

  • sukabi1 · 1 year ago
Quick, someone get hold of the prepubescent McCain nitwit from the earlier MSNBC bit and ask him about this deal and all the "non-lobbyist" lobbyists from the McCain camp involved with ATT & Verizon... I'd like to see him really pee his pants trying to not answer again...

What's an illegal corporate contribution or two as far as
McKeating 5 and Mrs. Lipstick Alaska are concerned?

    Where's my free tower?
  • John Aravosis · 1 year ago
    Exactly. Where is Obama's"
  • Laura-In-CC (fka Doodlebug) · 1 year ago
Yeah. I work in Virginia City, Nevada and there is NO reception here for either AT&T (the one I have) or Verizon. So why don't they work on areas of the country without them that legitimately need the towers?
  • cepth · 1 year ago
Yes this is OT, but I've been to Virginia City multiple times and I've never had an issue with cell reception on AT&T. Perhaps you need a new phone.
  • Laura-In-CC (fka Doodlebug) · 1 year ago
Yeah, it works pretty well on C Street (the main drag) but I work near the jail down 341 and there's zip.
  • kh7463 · 1 year ago
Ok, since Christians are boycotting Google because of Prop8, can we get all democrats to boycott AT&T and Verizon for this?

Works for me. But then I don't have either of those companies.

And yea, I need a free tower too, cuz I get crappy signals in my house.
  • John Aravosis · 1 year ago
Yeah I love that. So they're not gonna Google. Uh huh. Sure...

    How do you boycott Google?
  • BooksAlive · 1 year ago
Use GoodSearch as I do, and sent $$ to your favorite charity.

OK, it takes time to add up, but it does. When you need Google's maps (which crash my computer), go there, but in the meantime, buy through GoodSearch's partners will make for much larger donations to your chosen charity or nonprofit.

DUH! Google is not a monopoly. Try Dogpile. Its a great search engine and I have been using it since before Google was invented.
  • 3arthling · 1 year ago
kh7463, call your provider often. If their coverage map covers your house, they just might throw one up, at least for a while. Just be polite, remind them that their coverage map seems to have an error, and above all, be persistent. If you have neighbors with the same problem, it helps to remind your carrier of them too. Persistence pays.

Off subject totally, but today I was channel surfing and I happened on a clip of Palin on the stump----she had the mike in one hand and her little one (draped over her shoulder) in the other. Does anyone besides me feel this to be deeply disturbing? It gave me the creepy sense she was using him (bless his heart) as a prop
  • persephone · 1 year ago
Yes, that IS very creepy! And furthermore, the McCain/Palin health care plan is VERY ANTI-CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS; under their plan, insurance companies would be compelled NOT to provide coverage for "pre-existing conditions." And, what do you think Down Syndrome, and hundreds of other genetic syndromes, are considered??? Yep, "pre-existing" conditions! --Trust me, I know. I found out the hard way, as the parent of a child born with a congenital medical condition. ...Palin is ultimate hypocrite!

This would FLOOR McCain if Obama brought this up tonight!

Remember how Obama brought up something that happened the morning of the last debate and McCain was dumbfounded?

Well, THIS would be a slam bam if Obama brought it up
  • Steve_in_CNJ · 1 year ago
that would be the $440,000 AIG junket in CA.

right. because he is busy learning and doing what a President SHOULD do. He knows what happened today because he was not taking a nap or having his diaper changed.
Yeah McCain would just DIE (or at least turn blue) if Barack showed him up again tonight in such a manner.
  • persephone · 1 year ago
No need for lobbyists when you can take direct bribes! Sheesh!
  • woodroad34 · 1 year ago
After the campaign financial bit (and his using Cindy's corporate jet without claiming it as a contribution), I'm not holding out much confidence that this little tidbit is going to be investigated. This old fart is a menace to the morality of American Society and, I repeat, John McCain is not a Hero...he's merely a survivor. Heroes don't pull skanky crap like this and pretend to be all upright and above it all.
  • HereinDC · 1 year ago
This story was just posted at 4:30pm EST TODAY

There has got to be a way Obama brings this up tonight....

McCain would blow his head off.
  • John Aravosis · 1 year ago
I suspect this is the kind of story you hold until McCain goes nasty first
  • SouthernYankee · 1 year ago
Come on John A. you are our leader here get us an e-mail address to complain about giving free service to the McCain's with Virzon. I don't have AT&T. If you could do that than we could flood the bums.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
As if Cindy McCain could not pay for her own damn towers!! Ol' Johnnie needs his hands smacked hard for this. Of course, you notice it was CINDY not John who asked for the towers. Typical John McCain, never gets his hands dirty, he lets someone else take the fall.
  • Slim Cognito · 1 year ago
I don't think McCain's October surprise is turning out like he planned.
  • Indigo · 1 year ago
There might be a dead zone in Cindy's heart but not in her phone system.

This is really huge. Just beyond belief. If Hillary or Obama had done this they would be so over. Where is the MSM? Oh yea, never mind, they are talking about Ayers.
  • bluestockton · 1 year ago
Why didn't Cindy just fly her private jet to the nearest cell tower every time she wanted to use her phone? After all, we have her word that if you're in Arizona and you don't have a plane, you can't get there from here.
  • mikeyDe · 1 year ago
I have faith that my personal cell tower on wheels is on its way soon. After all, last week my Reagan tax cut finally trickled down to me last week!
  • nicho · 1 year ago
Come on guys, cut Cindy some slack.

What if she needed to call "pharmacist" in the middle of the night and couldn't get any bars on her phone. Withdrawal can be such a terrible thing.

Do you really want to see Cindy sweating through her Oscar de la Renta nightgown?
  • BarrieT · 1 year ago
If I was in the mobile phone business, the last thing I would want to do is give a personal cell tower to a multiple cancer victim, especially when his worst cancer was in his head.

McCain counts as a one-man cancer cluster.
  • justndav32 · 1 year ago
Doesnt suprise me as I work for AT&T Wireless, I hate it. We've also been told its against the code of business conduct to wear Obama buttons and it would not be welcomed by upper management when they come for regular visits. AT&T is in John McCains back pocket, bunch of fucking sleazeballs.
  • 3arthling · 1 year ago
I am a programmer at ATT Labs, and I beg to differ with my esteemed co-worker. Having just taken the annual ethics course, all employees are instructed that their political life does not extend into the workplace - it is against the CBC to wear Obama, McCain, Paul, or Barr campaign material into the workplace. AT&T is in no one's back pocket. If memory serves, they put on equally amusing parties at each convention, given more or less equally to each campaign, and does absolutely nothing that any other large corporation doesn't do.

One of my co-workers was recently asked to tone down his pro-McCain chatter at work, and that just doesn't sound like a company in McCain's back pocket. Having worked in the financial, airline, and telcom industries, I'm here to tell you that AT&T has had the least to say to its employees about their political lives of any employer I've worked for in my 25 years in IT. In fact, upper management has been completely silent on the issue.

All that said, my own cell provider, Sprint, routinely responds to downed towers or spotty coverage with portable towers. These towers are not reserved by any carrier for a specific purpose - all the carriers roll them out for purposes ranging from undercapacity in growing towns to disaster response and everything in between.

Line supervisors make the decision to roll out these towers and it is more than a little unlikely that senior management would have the remotest idea where and when a given piece of portable transmission equipment is moved.

The idea that Randall Stephenson (or one of his minions) would order up a tower for John McCain is ridiculous on its face. In fact, I'm sure that when he reads about this that tower vanishes.

The idea that a low-level supervisor would do something like this, on the other hand, is easy to believe. I'll be he or she is out of a job soon too - for breaking the ethics code, something that the company is VERY serious about.

Did they get a tower for each of their 13 mansions, or just out at the "cabin"?
