AMERICAblog: VIDEO: Sarah Palin on declaring war on Russia... "perhaps so!"

  • cmpnwtr · 1 year ago
Some Americans may like bluster but all out nuclear war is no joke. And I don't think it particularly plays well with women. So, the question is, do we want this idiot with her hand on the button. I hope Joe Biden jumps all over this.
  • Butch1 · 1 year ago
Speaking of Biden, where the hell is he?
  • Steve_in_CNJ · 1 year ago
is it sexist to say she sounds like she's running for senior class president? will Glenn Beck have something to say about her voice?

hey, Mr. Clinton likes Obama's chances:

When is her soon to be son-in-law enlisting? Does he hate America?
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
    Don't worry.

Since she lives so close to them, she's been scouting them out.

Their "snow machines" are no match for ours.

    "First dude" says so.
  • sukabi1 · 1 year ago
you know I've been hearin' a lot about these "snow machines" for a couple of weeks now... I wonder if they're anything like the snowmobiles that have been running around down in these lower 48 for the past several decades? Or are they some new fangled contraption the likes that have never been seen before, that run on wolf and moose blood?
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
Yeah, I've been wondering that myself.

Guess "snow machines" sounds more macho than "snowmobiles."

You can SEE Russia from Alaska. With the naked eye! Who knew?!
  • Butch1 · 1 year ago
So that make's her an authority on Russian relations. Look out Condi, your replacement is upstaging you.

Yes it does. This is awesome. She is a joke. :-)

She is a Dick Cheney post op tranny, except stupid.

David Letterman and Leno, where are you. She needs to be the butt of jokes, then you know you have no credibility with the low info voter.

TTo think people are going to vote for dumb and dumber. It is not really funny. But like you it is a joke. To bad I feel like crying because that bitch wants to send our kids off to war.
  • sukabi1 · 1 year ago
Wow, you can actually SEE Russia from some parts of Alaska. Damn THATS foreign policy experience you can trust.
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
Did she actually imply you could see the Ukrane and Georgia as well??? Huh?
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
    She lives close to Siberia.

She may have some experience with migratory animals from Russia, but that's about it.
  • ShirleyGoodnessanMercy · 1 year ago
Precisely. They don't even exchange RECIPES across the Bering Strait. Alaskans know ZIPPO about Siberians.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
Just 2.5 miles between Big and Little Diomede Islands. Sarah and Todd can do that in a fully-new-clear armed snow machine (not "snowmobile" stupid Lower 48s!) in 10 minutes. Tremble, you evil Siberian hordes, tremble!

I can't stand Charlie Gibson's pince-nez glasses, tenuously draped on his stern face, like he's the Wise Old Owl of television journalism.
    Elitist!
  • sukabi1 · 1 year ago
If Charlie Gibson was an 1/8 of a real journalist his first question would have been:

Please explain to the American public what experience a 1st term Governor, with a few years as mayor of the Meth and rape capitol of Alaska, qualifies you to be Vice President of the United States.

This is what we have been worried about the last two weeks??? Palin is a dumbass.....I think the general low info voter is stupid, but really, I think the neocons have really underestimated even the low info voter this time around folks. It's going to be HI larious watching mcSAme squirm around for the next few weeks.

This is fabulous. I have a bounce in my step today.

    Thanks Sarah-!
  • Butch1 · 1 year ago
My only problem is that they wrap it all up in the flag and start thumping on their bibles. Nothing like a patriotic "dumb-ass," religionist who can vote.
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
Yes, but remember, they are playing to ten percent of the 'undecideds' these people are NOT evangelical wing nuts. Most of these people are independent voters. Rest assured, they will run for the hills when this nutbag is exposed.....I promise you.
  • Butch1 · 1 year ago
One can hope. As long as the media behaves and doesn't give her a pass. . .I just listened to some commentary from the "panel" regarding her answers from today's interview, and the two leaning to the right were already covering for her and cleaning up her ignorance. We still have to deal with the prejudices of some of the "analysts" who continue to defend her no matter how bad it is.
  • TxDeb · 1 year ago
OMG, THAT'S her qualification. I shoulda known.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
    She seems so eager.

Like the Bushies just filled her up with right-wing talking points and she can't wait to spit them out.

I'm disappointed she didn't follow up her plans to attack Russia with a "yup, yup" tho.

    That would have been classic.
  • Atlantagirl · 1 year ago
This intervew taught me Sarah Palin doesn't care about her family. I wondered it before, but this just proves it. A pregnant teenage daughter, a baby with down syndrome, and she doesn't even hesitate to say no to John McCain? That struck me more than anything in this interview. The level of narcissism that requires is staggering. Obama has talked about the discussions he had with his wife, the impact it would have on his family, before deciding to run. Joe Biden wanted to stay with his sons instead of serving in the Senate. For God's sake, the woman is running for Vice President of the United States! This isn't an impulse decision like buying a pair of shoes!

OK everyone, I've been away all day preparing for doomsday here in Houston, re Hurricane Ike. Anyway, I finally sit down to catch up and holy crap, she really said that...WOW. Just plain wow.

Good luck making it thru Ike, houstonray.

Thank you, I'm right in the shadow of downtown, they are predicting 95mph wind in my neighborhood. Oh joy. Assuming I have an internet connection, I'll give everyone an update when it's over...send some good thoughts toward Houston/Galveston, this is shaping up to be one of the worst case scenarios they have run, come true....
  • ShirleyGoodnessanMercy · 1 year ago
Stay away from windows! Jesus, 95 mph winds?! That's insane! To me the worst part of a hurricane is knowing you can't call an ambulance if you suddenly get sick or hurt during it. I pray your building is safe and that you make it thru it all unscathed!
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
I live in Florida, I know what you are going through...it sucks. truly. Be safe.
  • genevajoe · 1 year ago
This is not 4 more years of Bush, this is scarier!
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
    I'm getting that feeling too.

McCain's so out of it, I can't imagine he'd have much control over her.

(Not that I have much confidence in McCain's judgment either, but he just seems so lethargic and close to death that I can't imagine him getting motivated enough to nuke Russia--even though he probably wants to.)
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
    Much.
  • Sage24 · 1 year ago
Maybe I am seeing things that are not there, but from the small clip, I could see she is not that confident giving this interview.

As for what she said, it is amazing that she could fit into the Bush circle of war mongers, she already sounds like one. If she is this blood thirsty without any power, imagine what she would do if she was VP or even President.
It is so scary. It is even scarier that there are Americans out there, who seem to want this. I see a lot of similarities between candidate Bush in 2000, and candidate Pitbull Palin.
  • bunnyjump · 1 year ago
    I agree...no confidence....look at her eyes...she looks terrified.
  • sukabi1 · 1 year ago
could be a hint of crazy thrown in as well.
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
Yes, I saw that too. I have renewed confidence now. This is fabu.
  • M12b3m21a · 1 year ago
It is obvious that to a weak minded person with no backbone a little strength is intimidating. It is Palin's (and Bush's) strength that keeps you safe so you can make such absurd statements. McCain and Palin are strong while Obama and Biden are weak. McCain and Palin have the right kind of experience; Obama and Biden have none. Who do I want in charge? Those who will keep America safe. Palin was right, getting the government straightened out and away from liberal ideas will make us stronger in the world.
  • Sage24 · 1 year ago
After all the lies, the manipulations, and fake terror alerts, anyone with a little intelligence will realize that they were manipulated into a war, and thinking that they are being kept safe, when for instance our borders are wide open to anyone even terrorists. If you think a rookie like Palin will keep you safe, then we we should feel sorry for you. She did not even know what the Bush doctrine was. Stop watching Faux News. If you are calling Biden weaker than Palin, then there is no need to have this conversation/ Stop drinking that kool aid, and look at what your wonderful saviors have done for this country.
  • loona_c · 1 year ago
I actually am watching Palin talk to Charlie on the local news. OMG

I like how everyone is pretending politicians are putting aside politics for 911 today. Hello! Palin gives her interview today. On the day she sends her son to Iraq. Nope, no politics there. I'm sure 911 is just a coincidence in both events.
  • Soundboy_jeff_meanie · 1 year ago
it does seem a bit odd... was the interview actually FROM today??

I mean, they're trying to paint her and her family as the 'American Family'... wouldn't a mother want to be there as her son is shipped out?
  • loona_c · 1 year ago
I think she was there. That's why the interview is in Alaska. Like I said, waaaaaay too coincidental.

"Diplomacy be damned! BOMB I SAY, FOR GOD TELLS ME IT IS THE RIGHTEOUS PATH! BOMB BOMB BOMB!!!" - sarah palin
  • stingray1965 · 1 year ago
I think we Dems should be very careful not to be selling Sarah Palin short. Remember what her purpose is in the campaign...throw red meat to the base. They will eat that shit up and it will energize them. She and the Rovians running their campaign don't care what we Dems think of her. They want her to fire up their base and get them to the polls. It's the only way they can win.

Take some time and go over to CSPAN.org and watch her 2006 Alaska Governors Debate. Its about 1 hour 20 minutes. She is a skillful debater because the ideas she expresses are both simple and simpleminded. She breaks off into bite sized chunks. Biden could stand to study her style. I've given up hope of the average voter having the attention span to absorb a substantiative answer to a debate question. They can only take soundbite sized answers.

The reason she can pull this shit off is because she DOES answer questions in a very cocky manner. There are some folks who will see her and say "Man, if she is THAT confident about it, she must really know what she is talking about." I hate that things are that way, but they are. Obama/Biden and company would do well to not allow the Rethugs downplay expectations to the point where all she has to do is show up and she wins.

    Another comment from politico:

"As a Norwegian, I am seriously shocked (and ****ed) by some of the responses by the Obama supporters. So if Russia invaded my country, you would neglect our NATO Agreement and not come to our defense????? WTF!!! What the hell is the point of NATO then"????
  • genevajoe · 1 year ago
Are you for including Georgia and Ukraine in NATO?
  • CDS2 · 1 year ago
No. Now I've answered your question, your turn: If they are allowed to join NATO and Russia invades, should we go to war? How about Poland, shoud Russia invade, should we go to war?
  • genevajoe · 1 year ago
Although I am opposed to Georgia, Ukraine and Poland joining NATO, If voted in, then yes we must live up to our NATO security obligations. You have my answer.
  • sukabi1 · 1 year ago
Is that something you posted CDS2, are they paying you to "play a Norwegian", will you be a Dane next? Or do you have super powers and have learned to hack a comment to trace the ip address from where it was sent and you KNOW that the poster was really Norwegian?
  • CDS2 · 1 year ago
No, you can find it on Politico.com. I just thought it was relevant, so I sent it along.
  • sukabi1 · 1 year ago
still doesn't mean the poster wasn't you or another republican tryin' out another nationality for fun.
  • houstonray · 1 year ago
Palin totally supports the people of Norwegia...

    I'm just sayin....
  • AngelaChanning · 1 year ago
Pardon me, I might only be a dipshit from Baltimore but wouldn't Russia have to invade Finland and Sweden first? And really wouldn't they just stop at Finland because they could get to a port ?(albeit probably not a warm water port but the ports in Norway are no warmer than Finland). And before they invaded Finland, why wouldn't they just go for little ol' Estonia or Lithuania, since they are former USSR block countries? Thank you for listening.
  • WalterP · 1 year ago
Yikes!!!!!! McCain and Palin must be defeated Nov. 4th. This is getting scary! Donate money to Obama and DNC. Volunteer and campaign. Talk to friends, family and coworkers.
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
Yes. Done. Also, I had a letter writing idea. Write a personal letter, snail mail to a friend brother, sister or parent that leans republican, and tell them why it is extremely important to vote for Obama this time around. Make it personal and simply ask them.

You would be amazed at the results. Don't be political, keep it personal as it relates to your life, your family,.....

My Brother is now voting for Obama, and my housekeeper, I am working on the others as well.

And remember, send it snail mail, it has more impact. Be contrite and honest. It works.

Think of it, if just a quarter of the two million people who donated to Obama's campaign did this and we convince one person....that's upwards of a 1/2 million Obama votes. We can do this.

Wow, so living next to another country is all it takes for foreign policy experience? I lived in South Florida for most of my life - I guess that I know a lot about foreign policy, especially as far as Cuba is concerned. I personally like Wes Clark's Jrs response to the whole situation - we should just pick ANY American out of a hat for VP - as it seems that is how this choice has been made.

Now, trying not be be sarcastic, but I swear my IQ is steadily declining the more that this election season progresses and the more speeches I hear (especially from the new Republican VP pic). When did the issues quit mattering and the celebrity boxing match begin? The senseless bickering seems much worse than in election years in the past :( If I see one more headline that talks about lipstick, I'm going to scream.

  • Rob Mule · 1 year ago
    Rope, kids. Rope.

Interesting that Palin tries to burnish non existant international stage experience with the non sequiter, "you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska." Maybe...But I could see the National Cathedral once from my balcony and never thought I had claim to a bishopric.
Just watched Tweety jump on Congressman Stephan Cohen saying "Jesus was a carpenter."
Oy vey, Tweety, Joseph was the carpenter and likely trained young Jesus in the trade. Jesus also liked to fish and toss a money-changer or two from Temple grounds, a sort of early community organizing. And Pilate was indeed a governor...So lighten up when you haven't a clue. Anyway, we know Sarah likes her hands clean.
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
Hahaha! The Reverend Bishop Prezz...i like it!
  • AngelaChanning · 1 year ago
Any candidate for office that does a "Perhaps so!" about going to war with Russia is a cocky whacko indeed and that is probably the most polite term one can find. This love and adoration for Sarah Palin is surreal. Sure, she is beautiful and has this wilderness woman persona...but she is in over her head and she might not know it. What cracks me up is for such an independent woman, she certainly has "First Dude" involved in a lot of State business.

I did try to soul search about the experience question...and I decided to imagine if Martin O'Malley, the governor of Maryland was picked as the VP nominee. I would really have a hard time imagining him as the VP or President because he is a first term governor, elected the same time as Sarah Palin --and I like Martin O'Malley! I could imagine people ripping his experience apart being the Mayor of Baltimore and Governor of Maryland for less than 2 years.

    Anyway, thank you for listening.
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
Yes, except Baltimore has twice the urban population as all of the state of Alaska. So according to Neocon standards your guy is over qualified.
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
Palin is a dipshit and needs to keep on talking. This is great.
  • M12b3m21a · 1 year ago
If she keeps on talking, McCain wins. If Obama keeps on talking McCain wins. I know you are rattled because of the language you use and the names you call other person. Perhaps it is you who are really the intelligent name you called Governor Palin.
  • Mark in Florida · 1 year ago
Point well taken. I am rattled, and shocked frankly that the ten percent of low information voters cannot see this entire Palin pick as purely political. Romney is the most qualified pick, by far. It is entirely possible that Palin could actually be in charge of our nuclear arsenal. That should scare the crap out of everyone. As a pentacostal, they believe that when we are at war, we are 'gods warriors'. These are her words not mine. We have just had eight years of a theocracy, and look where we are. Palin is dangerous and incompitent.
  • erykah · 1 year ago
This is so staged. Of course they would ask her a question about Russia since the rethugs talking point is that her closeness to russia accounts for her foreign policy experience. Never mind that just a few weeks ago when she was asked about the Iraqi war she stated that she was too focused on local issues to think about it. Rick Shenkman of History News Network asked "Just how stupid are we." We are about to find out in 54 days.
  • FunMe · 1 year ago
Not to be rude or anything ... but before you click on the YouTube, it looks like she has pig ears. And yes a pig nose behind the "Play"

    I'm just saying ...
  • curlytoes79 · 1 year ago
It's funny that even in such a tightly controlled, scripted interview, Palin can't help but sound dangerously oblivious and uninformed. "War with Russia? Yah, yah, you betcha!" She has no idea what war with Russia even means.
  • lilyannerose · 1 year ago
Anyone ever calculate how many Americans pass the new "international experience" bar that the GOP has posted because they live near another country. Think about the populations on the US/Canadian border or the US/Mexican border? It's so comforting to know that America has so many people with the expereince necessary to sit a heart beat away from the presidency.

Her interview was great. When McCain and Palin are elected I hope you don't have a breakdown because you will be much better off and safer than with the novice ticket. Typical of an unthinking lib. When you have no answer you revert to name-calling. I guess you can not see reality for your liberal bias. The reality is that Barak Obama is not ready to be President, Vice President, Senator or even the mayor of a small town. Perhaps he should go back to community organization where he could do some good. Joe Biden has never done anything positive in his thirty years in the Senate. John McCain had a stellar military career where he had commands. Sarah Palin has more executive experience that Obama or Biden. So do we want a novice in the position or someone with some experience? Let's get out of Wonderland and into reality.
  • belljm0 · 1 year ago
Typical of an ignorant Rethug - throw some mud and see if it sticks.

The reality is that she is not qualified as a VP candidate and John McSame
in choosing her has proven that he does not have the judgement to be the
    POTUS!
He just responded to the religious right with that pick.

Senator Obama is and always will be twice the man that McSame is.
Your obviouus bias shows through in your over the top statemens about either
    Obama or Biden.

Speaking of Wonderland - just what color is the sky in your world?
