AMERICAblog: Viewer mail: What Obama should say about Palin

  • blackwolf · 1 year ago
I'm assuming Obama wil rise to the occasion.
  • Bostonian_Queer_in_Dallas · 1 year ago
Exactly. This story sounds like a junior high school recess. Obama should play the grownup in this situation. This Palin mess shows EXACTLY why McCain should never be our President.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
What is Palin hiding by refusing to cooperate in Troopergate? She was FOR cooperating before she WAS against it.
  • Will_In_Midtown · 1 year ago
I agree -- The Dems need to be more aggressive here. I have not seen a single ad yet addressing the recklessness of this situation.
  • tbhull · 1 year ago
This is right on poiunt and I am almost certain an ad with this line or something similar will follow from the Obama camp, but only after Palin speaks tonight.

Sometimes it is best to lay low and let someone hang themselves with their own words first. Let the honorable Governor of Alsksa speak without giving her anything to speak about and then attack as appropriate.
  • dad · 1 year ago
Hillary should be the one to take this on.
  • AdmNaismith · 1 year ago
She took the gov's office on a promise to 'clear up the corruption'. Her most significant act to date was to use the Gov's office to extract revenge on her ex-brother-in-law.

Her 'executive experience' is criminally actionable. Keep hammerin' home the investigation of revenge over public safety. It speaks directly to her experience in office and make no mention of her sex.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
According to the McCain campaign and Fox News and the bleating reactionaries who have appropriated the discourse of political correctness from the Left, Obama must not say ANYTHING critical. Anything other than praise for her abilities as governor, mayor, potential Veep, military commander, mother, wife, outdoorswoman, businesswoman, executive decision-maker, etc. etc. is SEXIST and will backfire as MILLIONS of people begin to hate Obama and vote for her (just like they did for Hillary in New Hampshire and after).
  • EmGD · 1 year ago
    Yeah, but....uh.....SEXISM! LIBERAL MEDIA!! POW!!

To criticize John McCain is to criticize the flag.

    http://thesebastards.blogspot.com/
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
agreed. And Hillary would be great for this message.

ps. Obama's political instincts are proving to be excellent. It's scary sometimes, but I'm liking the way he holds off and doesn't do a lot of knee-jerk reaction to their shit...
  • shrrrr · 1 year ago
I like that too. But, there's something else.

The mainstream media has reached a tipping point, I think. The stakes are way too high now and I see traces of reality-based talking-heads getting more airtime. We don't watch FOX, though.
  • AdrianBrowne · 1 year ago
    McCain has failed another test.
  • Jim Olson · 1 year ago
He's speaking in Ohio right now, and just said that McCain's choice was reckless and inappropriate.
  • Wild_Weasel · 1 year ago
Shame on the media for asking inappropriate questions about foreign policy to McCain's Veep nominee.

    http://www.broadcastingcable.com/CA6592163.html

They should stick to questions like how to gut and clean a moose.

    :)

I normally wouldn't give them too much credit, but Brian Ross at his ABC/blotter whatever is reporting yet another Palin firing scandal that seems to have been hushed up until now.
  • NinaKatarina · 1 year ago
The media is already making that argument. I heard it on NPR's morning edition, and read it in the LA Times.
  • BLOGGING BITCH! · 1 year ago
    Palin's already changing!

She's not making Pregnant Bristol hold the baby!!!

Nah, Sarah wasn't hiding Bristol's belly.
  • jdfinla · 1 year ago
Hillary Clinton is the only person capable of delivering the knock-out punch to Sarah Palin. She needs to step up to the plate now.
  • BLOGGING BITCH! · 1 year ago
Do I have to repay McCain for flying Levi in?
  • Truly_confused · 1 year ago
He should state clearly: "This concern with the Palin issue isn't the pregnancy. It's the fact that Governor Palin is staunch in her belief that sex-education should not be taught in schools and abstinence should be followed directly contradicts the realities in American families, including her own. The fact that she reduced 20% funding for an organization that shelters unwed mothers and prepares them with workforce skills truly paints a more accurate portrait.

He should try in 60 days to articulate that voters that while there's a desire to elect a female to a higher office, Hillary Clinton had the experience to be commander-in-chief. Sarah Palin clearly doesn't.

Hillary didn't gain the nomination due to previous exposure. She wasn't trusted based on her previous issues in the clinton administration. But she is an attorney, a senator and was in the oval office for eight years. Considerable experience.

Sarah Palin is not someone to make light of but a person who's governed a state for 500 days with a population above Vermont and Wyoming. By truly looking at her voting record, not a republican fact sheet, clearly shows a pattern of poor decision making and inexperience.

Barack needs to ask McCain to stop exploiting Bristol so Dana Perino feels better.
  • djhwood · 1 year ago
Just watching some video on CNN of the arrival of McCain on that huge Jumbo Jet....greeted by the Palin Family. John Roberts also pointed out that the father of Bristol Palin's baby was standing next to her....Boy, if there was any body language it was clear that he didn't want to be there. He wasn't anywhere near Bristol (who, by the way, was holding her sister, again) and just looked very uncomfortable being there! (Damn...why did I listen to the "little" head)!
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
Well, Levi did say on his Facebook page that he didn't want kids. Now the Christian Right and the McCain campaign are making you pay for shootin' yer load into Bristol, good buddy. Fuckin' redneck, yeah! Fuck with the Palins, yeah, and you'll be at the altar, with a shotgun in your back! Fuck, yeah, dude!
  • BLOGGING BITCH! · 1 year ago
James Dobson loves the fact that Levi can now tear him off another piece of Bristol. Together again!
  • Lolis · 1 year ago
Obama's campaign released a statement similar to this. His interview with Joe Biden also did a great job pointing out why and how he picked his running mate.

Obama should stay clear of this, exactly as he has been doing. People need to trust Obama.
  • Hawk · 1 year ago
If that's how little thought John McCain gives to picking a running mate AND PUTTING COUNTRY FIRST, how much thought will he give to other decisions of life and death?
  • BLOGGING BITCH! · 1 year ago
Sarah was the best student the GOP could find.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
She's gonna learn at the feet of "The Master". BWAHAHAHA!
  • BLOGGING BITCH! · 1 year ago
What is it with the GOP obsession with children having sex?

I thought that was supposed to stop with Tom DeLay and Abramoff forcing abortions in the Mariana Islands.

Remember would they would take their contributors there to rape the children?

    Ask GOOGLE about it.

There's just something about children having sex that the GOP can't even pretend to hate.
  • Coming Undone · 1 year ago
Reckless is how McCain has lived his life, but people confused that recklessness with being a maverick.
McCain is not even a Decider
  • mgardener · 1 year ago
I agree with the comment posted on the blog.
I think people should also start demanding NOW just who John McCain is going to pick for his cabinet. Sarah Palin does not have the experience to run the country if john McCain were to die or what if he had a stroke and were incapacitated 2 months into office.
We the people should know who will run the country.

I think we have the right to ask him that. OR we will be stuck with a puppet/shadow government with Palin smiling away while God know who else runs the country. James Dobson? Big Oil?
  • Coming Undone · 1 year ago
Did Bristol and her baby's daddy graduate from high school?
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
Bristol: no, she would have started her senior year, if she had kept her legs crossed. Levi: no. He's going to be on the stump in lieu of school. America's Dream Team of Abstinence Failure!

Blame the Democrats, Blame the Internet, Blame the Press

This is the game the GOP is playing right now. THEY are the ones who released the information about Palin's kid. THEY are the ones that keep bringing up the "mommy works" issues. THEY are the ones promoting the abortion issues.

Notice how this game is played. Almost every Republican today has said in one matter or another that the press, the Dems, and the internet are blasting Palin on those issues. Really, I haven't seen one story on the blogs I read that have had an article about Palin's fitness as a mother. As for as the 17 year old, McCain's campaign put out that information and mostly people seem to be sympathetic to the plight of this 17 year old.

We are collectively being played again! The Republicans are figuring to gain a whole lot of empathy for Palin by blaming EVERYONE for all those anti mom stories YET the only ones making it an issue are the Republicans. Let's see if some bright reporter asks for specifics, asks for the name of the blogs and asks which news agency has written articles on Palin's fitness as a mother.
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
    you're right A2 -

the McCain campaign keeps bringing up the "sticky" issues and then blames the press or the blogs or anyone else for dirty politics. I swear I'm really beginning to think that Palin is mother of that youngest child....because Steve Schmidt keeps bringing it up, for one thing...

Don't forget LAZY. The McCain campaign had months to do this work. It reminds me of when I'd procrastinate and then stay up all night writing a paper for class.

John McCain is too LAZY to be president.
  • rexkc · 1 year ago
While I agree with the logic outlined here, I think the Obama campaign can stay out of this for now. Don't say anything that will divert media attention away from McCain and Palin, because the media has finally smelled a rat here and its best to let them handle it rather than possibly divert attention away.
  • lovepeaceandallthat · 1 year ago
I totally agree with the "viewer mail". Obama should be "yelling" this from the podium with outrage! It IS outrageous. Dangerous. Reckless. He HAS to make this point load and clear. It isn't mean or "unclassy". Go for it, Obama!

Although, I do agree with Randi Rhodes: the VP pick is a crazy choice, but it makes perfect sense. The republicans have a history of putting incompetent people in important positions (think "Brownie", or think "Bush"). The strategy is to wait for the results of their choice to wreak havoc and create fear and confusion. This is what they want. Why?

    1) Because they thrive off of chaos, disaster, failure. It is the only environment where they can push through their goal of privatizing everything -- literally, everything!

    2) They can't push through their social agenda (which is aimed at controlling people and weakening their freedoms) unless things are grim and the social safety net is weak. Happy, satisfied people are not scared people. They want us unhappy and fearful -- and angry at each other.

    3) An incompetent person put in charge of an important aspect of government makes a perfect puppet. They LOVE puppets! They NEED their puppets! And, the more corrupt the puppet the better. They seek out the corrupted and unethical so they can use blackmail to control them. They couldn't care less about the public image this creates -- they control that quite well since the "news has been cancelled", as Randi likes to say.

    4) They wanted someone who wouldn't mess with what the neocons have planned for our country and world. They want somone ignorant who will nod their heads and say "sounds good".

    5) All their other choices were people with experience, real opinions, and some independent thinking. That is the last thing they want. Also, folks like Leiberman have lots of enemies within the party. Palin? She has no enemies, since no one knows her.

    6) Corrupted, heavy handed, ignorant folks like Palin make BIG and BAD and DANGEROUS decisions as easily as they decide what to have for dinner. Look at Bush and Iraq. The neocons put their plan into action by using these easily controlled idiots like Palin.

    7) She is totally anti-environment in Alaska. Read: take my oil, leave a mess. I don't care. Whoo-hoo! Bonus points for the neocons.

I still think they really stepped in it and made a huge tactical error. I think this will cost them many, many votes. I think they have lost control of the Palin story and have lost control of ther message. However, in a twisted, sick way the choice does make some sense.

Palin and her Neanderthal cohorts in the snake handling sects prevent young people from being educated about how their bodies function. Instead, they think nagging them about keeping their shorts on is going to keep them chaste. Now her own little sweetums gets knocked up and we're supposed to ignore the stupidity of their religeous taboos. I'm sure Barak can handle this subject with a lot more restraint than I could muster.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
I agree with the viewer mail but I also think a simple:

Why has it taken John McCain 30 years in Congress to want to be a reformer? At any given time during the past 30 years he could have bucked system, been a reformer, been a true maverick. If he was not running for president, would he be known as a reformer?

Here's my tag line: We already have one cowboy in office who shoots from the hip. Can America really afford another?
  • The Tim Channel · 1 year ago
Obama needn't do a thing. This time the press is doing the job it should have done all along. Of course this is such a prima facie evidence of rash decision making that it couldn't be covered up or ignored as usual. Think about that for a second. I can't help but wonder if the Press finally figured out we're not laughing with them we're laughing at them? What is so unique about this Repug fluck up that caused the press finally to do some actual reporting?? Weird.

    The New Republican Party

The Republicans are openly embracing underage out-of-wedlock pregnancy and Sarah's policy of denying proper sex education to kids will ensure that many American families get to undergo the joy that she is currently experiencing?????? Let's not focus on weird Pastors who think Iraq and 9-11 are is God's gift to America. Rather let's focus on a HUSBAND who promotes an animus of the United States and wishes Alaska weren't any part of it.

If the Republicans are yelling "It's off limits" then you better redouble your efforts to examine it.

    Enjoy.

Obama should be the absolute last person to attack Palin in any way. Make no mistake about it: Palin is a weapon. She rallys independent voters, blue collar voters, and social conservatives, all of whom are weaknesses for Obama. Worst of all, she's likable, a great campaigner, and attractive to boot. Even if independents don't like her politics, it's hard to dislike someone who's got a son with down syndrome and a son going to Iraq. The more the media, Obama, and just about anyone else goes after her, the more the right and everyone else are going to love her.

This is truly a job for Hillary. Hillary attacking her in the way described above would be far more effective than Obama's critiques. Obama has everything to lose here.
