Busboy, hovering around here like a buzzard, will vote for McCain in November.

He will go up to that machine and press that lever like he's been programmed to do. He simply has no choice anymore like all of those bush voters.

"let the markets decide"-right wingers even though the markets have decided to move all the white collar jobs to India and that we don't need education

I work in the banking industry. I see it more and more everyday. When are the people going to get fed up and come together?
Thanks. I'm sorry the blogwhoring wasn't even on-topic. But I feel strongly about this post.

The "Leave all citizens behind" program continues to dismantle the gains of the New Deal.... Catastrophe capitalism, aka BushCo, at its best.

Fascism requires an uneducated population. First they take away the opportunity for higher education. Next they will try to eliminate access to the internet. Desperate sheep don't ask questions, they just follow hoping to not get left behind and will take whatever is given them.

" I still see no reason why Congress is not dictating terms and conditions with Wall Street banks."
Please! Congress is on the receiving end of dictation when it comes to dealing with Wall Street. Wall Street money has as slaves the likes of Schumer, Clinton, Specter, Hatch, etc...

Unfortunately, less selective almost invariably = less expensive whereas more selective almost invariably = more expensive. What does this mean? Well, since it seems reasonable to assume that a student who needs a loan in order to afford college might find themselves having to settle for a less-selective school due to legitimate concerns over repayment of the loan, what this means is that students of limited financial means who could potentially have otherwise benefited from a college education -- albeit, perhaps, not one with nearly the same cachet as Harvard or Northwestern -- might not be able to go to college at all. A college education has been shown to have a very strong correlation to future professional and financial success -- so this policy not only could prevent people of limited financial means from getting a college degree and improving their prospects, but also limit the prospects of their children. Carry that trend forward through succeeding generations, and what you potentially end up creating is an educational and financial caste system which becomes increasingly ossified as time goes on. So much for the "Land of Opportunity" if you don't happen to have been fortunate enough to be born with a silver spoon in your mouth.
It's moments like this when I begin to increasingly suspect that there are those in our midst who are deliberately trying to move us towards a second Gilded Age.

Is anyone going to grab these banks by the scruff of their necks and tell them to quit screwing up our country?

My son has been getting his student loans through Citibank and we've been doing the same for Parent + loans. We just got notified last week that his school has been dropped, so now we're looking for a new lender for both types of loans. No explanation - no warning, just go find someone else cause we're dropping the school.

OT, but important:
Recall Heather Wilson, Bush sycophant and Gonzales operative in AttorneyGate? She vacated her House seat to run for the Senate and she has lost to her challenger Steve Pearce, who is a jerk, but Tom Udall will easily take him out in November...more easily than he might have Wilson.
Udall (and Wilson and Pearce) had also vacated his House seat to run for the Senate seat of retiring Pete Domenici, so they are all out of the House and Udall is a guaranteed Dem win for the new Senate.
