AMERICAblog: Wash Post: "CBS Admits to Editing McCain's Iraq Answers"

  • lynchie · 1 year ago
CBS now sounds like the White House. We know we lied and covered up but we did it because we didn't have enough time. Well you certainly had enough time to move his dialogue from one spot to another, you had time to make sure he was covered, you had time to try to cover it up at the start and now you lie again and try to claim the content was the same. Who is your producer Karl Rove?

Dialogue heard in Hell last night....

    Joseph Goebbels, Minister of Propaganda:
Leni, has anyone one invented digital video editing yet in the Third Reich?"

Leni Reifenstahl, Film Maker and Mistress of Hitler:
No, Joe, and watching all this FABULOUS shit coming out of the Bush people is pissing me off. I mean I had FABULOUS camera angles, darling, but this is perfection for drumming the message.

"did not in any way distort what Senator McCain was saying" -- no, other than covering up his incompetence and embarrassing ignorance of facts, it really didn't change much. I wonder what the story would have been if the mis-edit has done the opposite... you think there'd have been some more significant guilt and grief expressed by CBS? If they want us to trust them (we don't) they need to show us that we can...

    "edited under extreme time constraints"

    bullshit.

like lynchie said below...they added tons of footage all making McLame look good. that must've taken much more time than just running the straight interview.

    what is your glitch, CBS?

"Just trying to stay even with ABC." And Brian Williams did a gig on Joe this AM with some leading questions to Obama in Germany. I challenge him to do that to McKept without appearing "mean."

just went to cbs.com and left a comment under "viewer feedback.."

started with "and you wonder why Katie Couric" is the laughing stock of serious journalists....

What's with ABC this morning? Diane Sawyer showed Jon Stewart last night, making fun of BOTH Obama and McCain. And afterwards Cuomo goes on this mini jeremiad about how "Stewart is liberal and supports Obama." Then they go to a commercial and afterwards Diane mentions a couple of times about how they are just having a good time this morning.

Honey when all you are is a Barbizon Modelling School graduate and all you can do is read teleprompters and you make a couple million a year to look pretty on camera....then you banter casually on morning shows about candidates...and are fucking clueless that this nation is at the cusp of something either wonderful or seriously dreadful. One of the very worst TV interviews ever given was Sawyer with Stephen Sondheim on the eve of his original "Sunday in the Park" opening. Here was a chance to really get into his head. It was pathetic. She is a blonde. Probably uses white-out on her monitor.

Diane blew Dick Nixon on the flight to California after the resignation. She wore her Jr Miss crown and Dick made a mess of her sash...

If it weren't for the time constraints, they would have found a way to edit the remarks without making it obvious.

The way Obama's campaign has handled the media on his trip has been brilliant. Opponents bitch how overdone it has been, but the truth is that it's been quite restrained and dignified just as in the good old days. We're getting fabulous photos (worth a 1,000 words?) and highlights of the trip rather than wear-you-out 24/7 cable coverage with its constant picky-picky gotcha moments. Couric has been the only exception (for Obama though, not McCain). I suppose it will all end now that Obama is back in western Europe, but it was classy while it lasted.

Oh, I see. it was just a mistake... Thanks for clearing that all up, CBS. You must really think we're fools. You treat us that way with your mealy-mouthed, cover our asses excuse. This was intentional, not a slip up. And to say the full interview was available on line indicates that there's no need to watch your broadcasts because the real truth is on your site. B.S. D.

damm that dag blasted liberal media.....when are all the real honest republican talking points gonna be broadcast....oh wait theres no such thing
  • Butch1 · 1 year ago
CBS can lie all they want about, everyone makes mistakes, but they got caught in this one. It is obvious they are well on their way in trying to help McCain in anyway they can to defeat Obama. Katie Couric is a joke and should quit trying to impersonate real journalists. What has happened to our free press in this country? How sad . . .

On the air dog poop is spun into a bran muffin while online Viacomdios' teeny broadcast arm clearly labels one image poop and another bran...
Well, ok, if you say so...But, I'm still fingering that bitch who ghost wrote poor innocent (blink, blink!!!) Katie's blog.

This is how CBS uses the public airwaves with which they have been entrusted? Lying to the public and carrying republican water?

When is their next license renewal?
  • EmGD · 1 year ago
The tape was put in the wrong order? What does CBS put each question and answer on a separate tape and then go back and edit them together?

They covered for him, got exposed and looked stupid. Can they at least not insult our intelligence by telling us that swapping out a massive mistake about McCain's supposed best subject for a dishonest attack against Obama patriotism didn't distort things? No? Alright then.

Would love to know what Walter Cronkite thinks of CBS now. He was the only believable anchor I ever watched. Today it's a bunch of over paid gas bags. No one believes a word any of them say.

I haven't watched network news in years. Why bother when I can watch the real news on Youtube or else where.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
Of course, CBS DID allow time for McCain's insidious smear on Obama's patriotism to get another airing that day.
  • Bubbles · 1 year ago
Then there was this massively negative hit piece they did on last nights news;Textually it probably comes off more balanced, but if you listen to it, the enunciation it seemed incredibly negative from the Obama perspective. And I don't mean that by a little.

    The piece ends with:

"...it will take more than this trip to alter the very deeply held perception of some,[pause] on Israel, [voice lowered] the senator (Obama) is not to be trusted. " [pause] "Sheila MacVicar, CBS News, Jerusalem".
